yes the blu ray on ps3 is excellent now if they could just make psn if not better than but at least as good as xbox live than sony would be on the pigs back. online play is good on psn, but they need to improve it in many ways including bringing in party chat same as xbox live.

The ONLY thing that PSN needs (In my opinion) is game chat for all players at any given time and wherever. There is only messaging and game chat, meaning you can only chat with people in-game correct? (I do not own a PS3, but soon will) PSN should have like party chat, I know many people will say PSN copied Xbox but I really wouldn't give a damn because our party chat would be FREE!

Should have also mentioned that you can enable autorun to run straight from the disc, so you don't have to browse to the Videos section etc. Useful if you only want to use as a bluray/dvd player

Although the ps3 is not THE BEST blu ray player (the best being $2000) it is amazing for $399. It supports blu ray 2.0, 7.1 dts etc.

And it gets UPDATES! unlike all the other blu ray players. All in all, it is the best blu ray player.

Ok sure, there are better blu ray players out there than the ps3, but for under or around $399? I think not. The ps3 even has a hard drive for saving certain blu ray data for extra features, a blu ray player with HDD costs WAY more.

You should try using a ps3 to watch blu rays before making that comment. Either that, or you have a faulty ps3.

You are aware that there are multiple sizes of widescreen, right? Both 1.85:1 and 2.39:1. I have some widescreen movies that fit perfectly on my 16x9 hdtv, and some that still have the black marks, because theater screens are wider than the tv.
