  • Good song.

  • What a pity the railway personnel know so little about good management. Their staff would not be back biting and trying to protect themselves with such vehemence if they felt the management were being supportive and giving good leadership. Maybe us customers would also feel SAFER!

  • @maniacslilbro Im 100% with you on that golden rule, its one of the first things I was taught! Protect yourself!

Its in the name PTS too... PERSONAL track safety....

Guy is a disgrace, he wasnt doing the railway any good and wasnt trying to do the right thing. Comments from people not on the railway should be disregarded - only us on the railways would know how unsafe and just how unprofessional this act it!

  • Well that would be the thing. All calls to signal boxes/control and elecytrical office plus other departments are recorded for review after incidents and monitoring. a few pointers is that Ians story has sadly changed a few times and some of the instances rang alarm bells amongst other staff.

with regards dragging other staff. with Ians version of acounts both the duty signaller and duty ECO were interviewed. witha view to see if they did wrong also.

  • I cannot help feeling that there is a lot of self justification from railway personnel. I consider this whole thing dreadfully mismanaged bringing SWT into disrepute. Heads should roll for a mismanaged situation. Is that why so many accusations are being made?

  • :- another reason why he has lost favour with other railway staff is he implicated other staff in the incident who weren't even involved. meaning they were investigated with a view to did they cover the incident up etc with the potential to lose their job also. which is highly unfair.

  • @maniacslilbro

I'm intrigued care to comment with further detail ? BY other staff who do you mean pacifically?l

  • Because each incident is dealt with on their own merits. however this time he breached the "prime directive" and it does not matter whether it is your first or 100th incident your gone. It sounds like swt and BR before gave ian many chances and guidence. but then you can take horse to water but its upto the horse to drink. He did not have to go on the track to deal with the ALLEGED incident safely. he also did not have to lie and try and cover his tracks

  • Following the comments from railway employees -as an ex(successful and retired) manager from a very large business I am very surprised that an employee who was so bad at his job and received so much recognition continued to be employed for 27 years.I would as the managers what action they took during this time to improve his work? I wonder if the quality of the management is the problem not the employee

Perhaps some of the South West Trains

  • Thanks for the clarification........As long as there is no way the record can be edited or lost....then the truth will come out. If Ian's lawyers/union reps address the accuracy of the record, then all parties can be satisfied when it goes to the hearing.........

  • Are calls to the signalman electronically recorded? as this would have demonstrated which party is in the wrong! Through the presence of a call or the lack of it on the recorder. just a thought........

  • @stevegoodman100 Yes they are and have been for some time. That's how we professional railwaymen know that Faletto's a liar. Pity for the people that he's duped really, they're going to be left feeling very silly and duped themselves.

  • yes but no body died did they? a damaged train is not the end of the world. I'll make this simple.

the first rule of safety is protect your self. ian failed that simple rule. lets call it the golden rule. now its not the first time he has been caught. its not the first time he has got himself into trouble. now any self respecting company would have to take action. how many times does one man need to break the rules before he is removed?

  • I have a record of a train which hit a shoppojng trolley. The train did not leave the track but the trolley wrapped itself around the contacts and totally disenabled the train.

I cannot help thinking that there is a lot of activity trying to prove one little guy is in the wrong -why? He obviously was dedicated to his job and did it for 27 years, We should be praising him for that.

  • another point of note. shopping trolly weights about 17 kilos or 38lb. train weighs 130 tonnes. shopping trolly would not have survived the encounter but the train would most certainly of not left the track or injured anyone.

Ian was not allowed on the track so should of never been there.

  • I feel sorry for everyone surporting Ian. Doing what your percieve to be the right thing and actually doing the right thing are two very different things. Even if there was a trolly which I doubt very much. it was not his job to go on the line to retrieve it. there was no train due for 40 minutes. More than enough time for the owners of the track to send someone who was based at Brockenhurst to retrieve it before the train arrived.

  • To be fair the Signaller/Line Controller must be told when someone is "on or about the line". This is considered to be 2.75m from closest rail to furthest rail. He would have been in the 4 foot. In my opinion (Yes, I am Rail Staff) he deserves to be sacked for not making Safety Critical Communications and for gross negligence! How did he know that there wasn't an ECS or freight a mile from the station? He may have done the right thing but you dont go about doing it that way! There are rules!

  • Ian faletto is a liar.

    There was no trolley.

There was no call to the signalbox.

He was removed from his position as a signalman because he kept breaking the rules.

He was removed from Sway station because of complaints..

he was/is not a Stationmaster, he was/is a ticket clerk.

He is a fantasist - as Scientologists often are.

All of the naive fools supporting this liar are going to look pretty silly if (hopefully) he does go to a tribunal and the truth of the matter comes to light.

  • I'm sure that the truth will out at the employment tribunal. However I'm convinced that there is a fair amount of unawareness on here of the reasons as to why the Personal Track Safety rules exist, the reasons for restricting the access of personnel to railway lines and the duty of care that an employer has to its staff in dealing with transgressions of rules particularly if particular rules are ignored more than once. As to whether the trolley ever actually existed, the tribunal will decide.

  • Well said gilzean3, no-one can pronounce on anyones guilt until the full facts are presented at an industrial tribunal - there my well be red faces on one side or the other.... but we'll all have to wait and see!

  • Some of the saddos below criticising Ian need to have a look at themselves and get a life.....how can you pronounce on someone's guilt?

The point of the song is missed on you .... a man committed to doing the right thing.

My experience of Ian is that he is a person who believes in service and helping the community. I wonder how you compare...

  • @gilzean3 Because some of us know the real story. Some of us are rail profesionals who understand why rules concerning personal safety are in force. Some of us know that if a person REPEATEDLY keeps ignoring or dis-obeying instructions that person will get themselves in trouble. Roll on an industrial tribunal where all of the facts will be revealed and all the people that he's duped will realise what a coniving lying person this Scientologist is.

  • Comment removed

  • I get the impression here that the 8000 people who signed that petition, together with the local vicar, MP, the media and David Broom, have all been duped by this doubtful story. Yes it all makes good reading in the paper-the eccentric 'stationmaster' sacked by the evil train company - but when did the press ever let the truth get in the way of a good story? Was there ever a shopping trolley or was this a fabrication on the part of Mr Faletto to cover up his illegal presence on the track?

  • I suspect corporate personnel are trying to use my channel for propaganda purposes, I wish Ian luck with standing up to these bullies. The indication is that the case is likely to go to an Industrial tribunal - as stated there are likely to be red-faces as a result - the question is whose?

  • @stevegoodman100 The liar Faletto and all the people that he's duped.

  • @stevegoodman100 Ian Faletto, who wasted 6000 people's time by lying.

  • Cannot believe it has all come this far...Well Ian the truth will come out...as you know,so why let all this crap continue....There was no trolley, and you made no phone call to the signal box.....Your going to end up red-faced...

  • One only has to access the site of the gentleman who wrote the very opinionated letter in support of the company to make a decision on his veracity.

My son worked for a railway company. Their demands were unrealistic and the treatment of their employees inhuman.

Maybe we should all be demanding a world where people, not rules, are important.

  • @TheJasminerich "My son worked for a railway company. Their demands were unrealistic and the treatment of their employees inhuman">>> With that I must agree. A colleague who works for one of these rail companies is also a regional staff rep. Some of the things that employees are being disciplined, and in some cases sacked for are quite astonishing. Though that is no pre-judgement on this case. If it does go to an industrial tribunal someone will emerge with egg on their face...But...Who...??

  • Ian Faletto was a Ticket Office Clerk, who went onto a live railway line to retrieve litter, despite having received numerous warnings from SWT, he continued to go down to the track to clean up, because his pride in his station had got the better of him.

He was not a Station Master, there was no trolley, Ian Faletto is a liar.

  • @burtreynoldstache how can this have gone so far that ian faletto has mp's stating his case? if he's a liar there will be lots of red faces....

  • @ciavancom Because he's a convincing liar. People believe him because they want to believe him. because it's a good David and Goliath story. But it is a story and the lying Faletto has made it all up.

  • great song Dave. it is good to see that people stiil care

  • That sacking is well out of order and merely brings the railway company into disrepute. The real villain is the trolley thief/vandal but as usual he/she goes unpunished. Incidentally in the area where I live there has been a spate of burglaries but apart from one lad caught on CCTV its clues0. Ah well a young motorist has just been given 7 points and a whopping fine for having an iffy handbrake so that should make up for things. Crazy world isn't it?
