  • what's up with the FPS? You should be getting 35+ FPS Average in Crysis Very High at 1920x1080. These two cards in crossfire perform better than a 5850 when overclocked.

  • What the fuck 25 - 30 fps wit two 4850!?, these cards seem to suck.

  • I have a i7 2,66 processor and two 4850, 6gb ddr3 RAM and i get around 50-60 fps on high 2x AA maybe you should update your drivers

  • dude i i saw your specs and im a little worried man....I have a Core15 750 and dual 9800gtx+ SSC. And i get 40-45 with a 1680x1050, all maxed no AA. do you have all your drivers updated

  • 15 fps with a core i7¿? wtf?

  • can i pick of each one of ur pubes 1 buy 1?

  • wolfieeee why are you never on msn anymore!?!?!

  • Hey did you ever get your 4850's stable?

I can help you if not.

I fixed my artifacting and random screen black out problems

  • I fixed all my old issues once I set the clock speeds to as low as ATI Overdrive let me, and I set fan speeds to 100%.

After that, no artifacts, no crashes, primary card gets to around 70C on games with a good engine (most non-free games, Source engine is a big one that makes my cards get hot fast)

Eventually I will switch my cards around, that should make my cards run a lot colder.

  • I fixed all of that nonsence just by uninstalling CCC. The damndest thing i know. But i havent got one artifact or crash since. Even my temps are down, i use GPU-z to check it.

I have the dual slot sapphire version and i get around 48C idle and 60C full load

  • CCC's Overdrive settings are at the default GPU clock settings, and whenever you are not in a FULLscreen 3d game, it will underclock your cards to the lowest Overdrive setting.

I set my cards to always be on the lowest clock settings Overdrive allows and it fixed everything. Still gets hot but no artifacts or blue screens.

I think your problem was just overdrive overclocking your cards to their default speed, more than your cards are usually at.

  • I used the default clocks and didnt overclock though, still 500.993 idle and 625,993 ingame i think. not sure about 3d memory clock. But i swear it was that blasted CCC. I'm never using it again.

I use gpuz to check my clocks and temps

  • Try that the ati catalyst 9.8. Crossfire to systems it was planned

  • wrey high 8xaa?

  • Crysis 8xAA max settings 1280x960 = 24 average fps. Ranges between 20 and 30.

Sometimes I just don't use AA with Crysis or I just use 2x or 4x. Still looks good and 25 fps makes the game a little uncomfortable at times.

I think around 40 fps average with no AA, can't really remember.

  • I think there's still something from with your gpu's though, with a single 4870 (1GB) i get higher fps than you with two 4850's while you should get about 50% more fps than me.

  • @Wo1feh Yo i just bought this game can i max it out with these specs?

    radeon 4850 1GB

AMD Athlon II X4Quad-Core 3.0 Ghz

    5GB DDR3 Ram

    1024x768

  • Anyone know how to force a second graphics card to be your primary one? My second graphics card is the newer version of the HD 4850, with a much better fan, and twice the RAM (1GB instead of 512 MB)

Due to the Best Buy 3 year warrenty (which believe me I will need) I cannot open my case, and it is really a hassle going to best buy to have them do it, since my mom is never feeling like going to best buy to have it done, even if I pay for the whole thing.

  • Do you did not want to to bench using catalyst 9.7...It claims that the performance should increased a little..Why do you need to underclock the card?

  • Benchmarks annoy me. I always have to look around on a map for a while before I get any higher than 2 fps (I believe this is because of my Ram but meh)

So I end up waiting there as it goes through 1000 frames.... It is really annoying waiting for 1000 frames at 2-3 fps, once in a while getting 20 fps.

The second benchmark on the same map is the only true working benchmark, but it takes a long time to actually get to the second benchmark

  • I had to underclock my card because it gets overheating issues. It was one of the original HD 4850's, with more horrible than normal cooling. If I leave it at stock clock speeds, it will reach 75C easily and in most cases games will crash within 10 minutes with the error "Failed to lock vertex buffer"

With the cards underclocked to 500 mhz each, games NEVER crash, and it can still run games like Crysis with no lag.

  • no good no good only 30 fps max? with 2 ati 4850? o.0 no good nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo OMG

  • I had some issues with CrossfireX on a different game so I googled it and discovered that Crysis (and many other games) ARE NOT compatible with Crossfire.

Crossfire + Crysis = -1 fps. Crysis runs better without Crossfire.

Many games have little or no added framerates with Crossfire, I guess Radeon's prices and performance aren't as good as most of us originally thought.

  • Crossfire works great for my in crysis. Same spot with single 4870 20-30 fps, with second card i was 40-50.

  • What catalyst you use?

  • Yeah i have crossfire too and its only cus nvidia has a strangle hold on most game developers for some reason, but I will say that if you havent updated your drivers that might help, but as for making the second card your primary one, you would probably have to switch them out, Im not sure how best buy would know if you opened your case, that seems really ridiculous that you cant do that.

  • There is a sticker where the case opens up, in my experience these kinds of stickers are made to where the main sticker comes of relatively easily, but is perforated in words that say "VOID" repeating, and the "VOID" parts are MUCH MUCH MUCH stickier. Even if you take off the sticker and put it back on perfectly, it is obvious you opened the case. Try doing this with a PS2 and you will know what I am talking about.

  • Not really surprising, most people would likely steal, replace, or break parts to attempt to get new ones. It is just kind of sad that people who know computers well enough to NOT break anything are stuck with paying Best Buy to do such simple things as replacing graphics cards or adding RAM. But, considering whenever I play a game, the graphics cards are 70-75C, it is worth it to try to keep the warranty. It is better to be a pain than to pay $400 to replace two GPUs.

  • THAT BLOWS! you need to get best buy to do that asap cus I can't imagine not playing with the best possible setup.

  • Best or not, it's good enough to play any and all games max settings at 1280x1024 :D So no complaints. Just a small issue with it could be better.

  • I don't understand, my computer runs crysis better than this and it consists of;

    2.86ghz dual core intel processor

    Radeon 4850 512mb (Not crossfired!)

    3.5 gb ram

    at 1680x1050

  • I sincerely doubt it with that graphics card.

One HD 4850 is roughly the equivalent of an Nvidia 9800 GTS Plus.

If you had two of those in SLI and ran without 8x AA then probably, but 8x AA is likely out of the question at that resolution.

Overclock both cards and you could probably get there.

  • What is your motherboard spec's?Do you use catalyst 9.4?Why is it does not have much gain with single card?

  • Ops, missed something xD

Both cards are the same name (ATI Radeon HD 4850 Series)

Yet, my second card is 1024 MB Memory, with about a 1 GB larger bandwidth speed.

Anyway, not sure why there isn't much gain. It seems like these cards are factory underclocked, which can be fixed using ATI Overdrive.

At 650 core clock and 1150 memory clock I have goten to 50-60 average fps with max settings and no anti aliasing

with 8x anti aliasing it went down to 35-40 fps.

  • P.S. Due to the fact that I recorded in windowed mode, it underclocked the video cards because Overdrive doesn't work in windowed mode.

500 MHz Core 750 MHz Memory clock for both cards when I was recording.

Just switching to full screen without manually changing anything made Crysis run a lot faster.
