Too bad! Germany once again proves itself unable to deal with its past and history!
I am not a fan of the DDR, but it's my firm opinion that a nation, a country and a culture is mainly jugded by what it creates and not by what chooses to destroy...
Unable to deal with its past? No! It is showing that it has the guts to tear down a building which symbolizes an awful regime and a failed ideology! It is allowing no monument and no nostalgic clinging to the aberration that was the DDR, and in its place, it is to rebuild an important piece of German history which the DDR brushed aside to build its abomination.
For the DDR was no fan of the past; fortunately for us, it was not the future. Communismus ist tot! Gott sei Dank.
I agree partly with you. However, I must remind you that the ideology of the "Kaiserreich" also failed dramatically. The past is not a matter of taste. Love it or loathe it, it's a part of ourselves. Of course, it was terrible of the communists to destroy the "Schloß", but that doesn't mean that we have to act like them. Anyway, what I meant, was that it was possible a new use for the Palast, so that it could become the symbol of a unified Germany. You are moving on by creating, not otherwise.
