  • Thank you for all the work than you save me. I just can not wait for 2012 ......

  • @vicedo69 We are there, the Sun is in a holding pattern for a while.

  • Aren't huge solar flares potentially dangerous? Reminds me of when you slap someone with a towel..

  • @1yermother Potentially but very rarely so.

  • Is it my imagination or did the activity vastly increase throughout the year? I seem to remember that dying stars increase their activity and increase in circumference. I know it it supposed to happen over a few million years but I'm paranoid.....

  • @nyxs60 im not expert. But were approaching solar maximum. Average 11 year cycle.

  • @nyxs60 It did increase significally throughout the year but this is quite usual for this stage of the cycle.

  • 4 dislikes? ur fanclub ..lol

  • @rorypebs I'll take 100 votes over 4 dislikes

  • cheers doc

  • @poulter27 Nobody with any sense said it was.

  • @drkstrong some idiots think that if you find videos about what happens in the universe and especially our sun, then ur a "doomer" or w/e they call it.

the video was really cool, but I wonde about that comet lovejoy, did it go into the sun or did it go in a extremely close orbit and out on the side?

sweet video, gonna show it to my dad who loves things like this :)

  • @br0dskalk From the orbital calculations, it passed 140,000 km above the solar photosphere and as it followed the precise path that was calculated some time ago then I suspect that was close to being correct.

  • Absolutely awesome video ! :)

  • @terfredr Glad you liked it.

  • not gonna lie this is awesome,,,!!!!

  • @cutiecassy1 Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Have to disagree with your title - the most exciting solar video we'll ever see is the last one to be made. But this one was pretty cool!

  • @vyperius You see at ther end - I disagree with the title. It did get your attention though which was its prupose! :)

  • @drkstrong haha you got me, I typed the comment while still watching the vid! Yep solar maximum here we come. Will it be One Maximum to Rule Them All?

  • @vyperius That does not the right ring to it! :)

  • @trineural2012 Bolero

  • Nice highlights... THX

  • at 2:44 it looks like an man or something...

  • @abooh1 One can have a lot of fun with shapes on the Sun, just like clouds. I swear I saw a reindeer in one of the pre Xmas images (outline of a coronal hole). Shows an active imagination.:)

  • .

I am so pleased everyone supports you, Dr. Strong, with appropriate accolades for the effort you have made throughout the year.

I am wondering, is there any possible way to show where our Planet Earth is?

Yes, it would be different for each of the observing instruments, but is there some way to overlay a faux Earth icon {preferably male, please} over the video and oriented in the direction where we are?

Perhaps someone here can offer tech help.

  • @robertedwardfay Actually for everything but STEREO the view is the same as we see from the surface of the Earth. Usually when I show STEREO data I mention where the Erath is wrt to the Sun (not this time because I though it might be a distraction from the flow of the video).

  • @drkstrong Thank you.

  • You always ask for feedback on your videos, so I would like to offer a compliment and some constructive criticism. The video has very stunning images and nice selections for video compilation. However, the music accompanying the images didn't provoke the "most exciting" element for me. It was rather lackadaisical and droning. I would have preferred something with more drive, punch, and a build up. As always, I look forward to your new uploads. Thanks for you work!

  • @SunsFlare Thanks, Most seem to like Bolero for the continuous turning of the Sun and for the way it builds as activity increases. I dont want the music to be a distraction so will see if I have better opieces in the future in my limited library. Any suggestions - I may have them?

  • @drkstrong I think something along the lines of Carl Orff - Carmina Burana would work well.

  • @SunsFlare I believe I used that last year sometime. Perhaps I'll resertect it this year. Thanks

  • Pretty amazing...and we still live...

  • Cool!

  • @jokoyes No, hot! :)

  • amazing champ only thing wrong is that we need to hear your relaxing voice of wisdom some more...

  • @TheVanhaahr Your hearing must be as bad as mine! :)

  • And the Oscar goes.... To the SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lightsout9999 Good idea! I agree and I bet it wins it next year too.

  • Its like watching and elegant dance Doc. the weather on the sun is simple fascinating. thank you for making this video. looking forward to more. its so cool to see all the great and kind comments as well. you have outdone yourself Doc. thanks again.

  • @in8chro Glad you liked it. Thanks

  • wtf how did someone dislike this vid... makes me sick

  • omg 0:39 just made my day!

  • @Acensioniscoming that was before i saw 6:50 ... good god...

  • @Acensioniscoming That was one of my candidates for the top 3.

  • Can something like that of June 7 come towards the Earth or due to the solar latitude they occur it is very unlike or impossible?

  • @biblia2016 Yes, in fact the 7 June did head earthward just most of it did not get here. The reason why it was so spectacular was that much of it crashed back onto the Sun

  • Bravo!!! Terrific!!!

    thank you!!!

  • @JohnnyNucks You are welcome

  • i was gonna say something but @Rickybenfas said it well enough...although i'm Standing Up and clap!clap!clap!clap!clap!clap!

  • @HarryP444 Thanks

  • I think your videos have become more and more interesting and amazing along last year but this...! It's a show like I've never been presented before; the very "creme de la creme" and so I thank you very much!

  • @x1joao Wow! Even I didnt think it wa that good.

  • That was some pretty exciting photos of the solar flares from the sun, thank you.

  • @johnboh51 Yes, both pretty and exciting - I always found the sun that even when it si relatively quiet. Majestic Beauty.

  • Bravo!!!

  • @roccman2003 Thanks

  • Ah the Sun, what a magnificent creature...oh yes it's alive, it's very alive.

  • Extraordinario!! Alucinante!!! Muchas GraciasDr.

  • @Marylunadeabril Thanks! :)

  • As always, great stuff sir!

  • @pd2210 Thanks!

  • good work this year doc. keep it up. we need you in 2012!

  • @CostaRicaTowSurfer I'll be here if the fates allow.

  • @vaughn496 We have 65 in the DC area and I was playing golf in shirt sleeves!

  • @Kalohux How could I possibly miss that? :)

  • Is there nothing happening on the Sun now, has it died? All I see is what happened last year, past history. What amazing things are happening NOW? I used to looked forward to your daily reports.

  • @grimsby16 As I predicted the Sun will be relatively quiet for the next couple of months and then should have a new burst of activity primarily in the North (unless the southern hemisphere takes off - which it is over due to do)

  • THE MOST EXCITING SOLAR VIDEO YOU'LL EVER SEE!

    I'm still young ;D, nice vid :D

  • @RevDevilin So is this solar cycle

  • AMmmAAzzzZiinnnGG.....;D

  • @herosminos Thats how I spell that word too!

  • excellent work doc

  • @wotsgonon1 Thanks

  • that was hot stuff like it .its going in my favourites.thanks

  • @wormywelshdude Thanks

  • Bravissimo ;)

  • @sanjon11 That's German for "good show" isnt it? (The Englist are terrible at languages!)

  • Awesome Video thanks a lot !

  • @MrCairo78 You are welcome!

  • ...a very exciting solar compilation for certain, far exceeding the vision resolution of the past & the spectral variance, doc.strong

~being one to have a tendency to see in macro vision, inclusive of the end effects of where this milk of creation comes to rest I am going with the March 9 2011 FUKUSHIMA FLARE as the most import of the years

=a Solar Storm that provides the data to demistify the Carrington Flare of Sept 1 1859 shall be the most important; despite thermalsphere's volcanic recovery

  • @docatomics The "FUKUSHIMA" flare? No such thing.

  • Comment removed

  • @drkstrong ...follow Ionic Heating to "fallen stars" that were once TEPCO / GE reactors;

~now read station data from neutron flux, well before Tsunami struck, notice how it "line up" GBR from Orion Nebula Pulsar feeding flash (Israeli Security Camera firm that serviced site should have extracts from this event, though not licence or paid for that part of the contract service, should TEPCO not share)

=now do you see "Fukushima Flare" ? (will try to present at later date if you pro's can't help)

  • @docatomics Once again your comment was flagged as spam - I unspammed it.

  • very nice but, "most exciting ever?"

  • @WhackTheWax Well, it got your attention, didnt lt? :)

  • my vote goes for comet lovejoy no doubts!!

  • @videoforyouify It was close but the M2 was more solar than a comet.

  • Great recap of the sun's highlights over the year!!!! Thanks for your most awesome work!

  • @hunt1803 Thanks!

  • Brilliant! Thanks Doc. "Just wait for 2012!" Er, are you anticipating even more excitement? I'm not sure I can stand much more, tho' I suspect you're right, 2012 is gonna be interesting for a whole variety of reasons. ;-))

  • @Gruntphuttock Yep, 2012 - actually the next 3-4 years - should be a lot of fun!

  • Wow very well done video. I absolutely loved it!

  • @TENzephyr Glad you like it! :)

  • WOW thankyou so very much. That was just amazing. Looking forward to 2012. Thankyou again for your wonderful videos in 2011.......

  • Hell of a vid.. AWESOME DOC....

  • @JuTtLlA Thanks

  • Beautiful sights and even better sounds! Great job Doc!

  • @trademarc66 I tried in places to match the cadence of the video with the music, apparently it worked! Thanks

  • Excellent

  • @crabbit101 Thanks

  • And the Oscar go to.......

    Drkstrong!

Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

  • A magnificent video. Wonderful. Thank you.

  • YES! THAT was the Most Exciting Solar Video I've seen! Can't wait for 2012's version!

  • Wonderful! Thanks for the vid!

  • @mrkontra You are welcome.

  • WONDERFUL ! Our fireworks seem sooooo tiny !! we as humans are sooo little ! GREAT GREAT GREAT ! all my love to the sun ! even if it bring doom !

  • @baboonsquadron Any doom it brings wont be for another few Billion years so you can relax for now. :)

  • Wow incredible! Thanks for the effort to bring us this compulation:)

  • @myalisa78 You are more than welcome

  • Wow. This vid sure makes the things I want to accomplish today seem petty.

  • @sssshhhh101 It shouldnt, I find it inspiring! :)

  • i was always told that stars twinkle because of their extreme distance and galactic debris between, blocking and lensing their light. i wonder now though, how much of this stellar twinkling is caused by distant stellar flares and CMEs?

  • @rongrite Stars twinkle because of the atmosphere. High up there is a lot of turbulance (like you fell in a plane). The cells are a different density so distort the light. Stars being so far away are effectively a point of light so twinkle. Planets are large enough in diameter that the turbulance is much smaller so they twinkle less.

Flares actually do cause some stars to chnage their intensity but over periods of hours and at wavelengths too short for us to see. Good question though! :)

  • WOW, nice star.. in this year will be more amazing picts i hope...

  • @Vrtcut21 Fingers crossed that it will be!
