I got my PS3 used to have the original startup because I bought it around June 2007. But when I put the Aliens Vs. Predator game in my PS3 almost 2 years ago, the startup changes into the current one and this is one year before my PS3 and Wii even got hooked to the internet.

@AntiVenom36 Sometimes firmware changes like that will come on the newer disks. I remember when Microsoft did Xbox's big update, my friend got it even though he's never been connected to the internet.

@alleypuppy Yeah. I did found out from someone that each PS3 Blu-ray Discs do have a little computer inside of them that can update the PS3, if it's not connected to the internet. Mine wasn't until earlier this year. Now, I can go to the internet with the PS3, especially to YouTube XL.

@yukiharvestfans The colors change with the months, which is why it is yellow now and was purple at the beginning of September. Since you technically aren't logged in to your PS3 when it first turns on, it doesn't load your settings yet which is why it stays yellow for a few seconds and then turns purple. As of now, there is no way to change this.

@BluntAnim Actually, most of the fat PS3s do not play PS2 games. All PS3s can play PS1 games, but only the 1st and 2nd generation PS3s can play PS2 games.

@alleypuppy First generation PS3's can play ALL PS2 games. 2nd generation can only play some PS2 games because it uses a method similar to the Xbox 360 known as emulation while the first gen PS3's actually had PS2 hardware inside. Unfortunately, Sony doesn't seem to have the resources like Microsoft does to continue to invest in software emulation which is why all currenty PS3's can't play PS2 games at all. It's a shame, backwards compatibility was important on Xbox 360 and Wii.

I'm having a problem, I've connected the screen and the playstation to each other properly with the old fashioned red-white-yellow cables, and also both to the electric socket. Yet when I turn on the ps3 and the tv the screen remains blue when i cycle through video 1, 2 and 3 and DVD. Earlier it used to show up on video 1. I've even bought new red-white-yellow cables, and it still isn't working! Help, please!

@TheSanoth23 When you turn on your PS3, hold down the power button until it beeps. This does a video reset and should fix your problem.

@TheSanoth23 You'll get this problem everytime you switch from analog signal to digital signal. For some reason the PS3 can't recongnize the analog output after it's been using a HDMI cable. Just do what TheSanoth said and you'll be fine...

The PS3 is one of the best systems ever created. I already have two PS3 consoles and I already have some great games for it to where most of my PS3 games are my favorites now. The PS3 is one of my most favorite game systems that I have so far and it's simply the best. Just recently, I had to end up getting a brand new PS3 console because for some reason my old PS3 console that I still have won't play my PS3 games right now to where the game will start, but it'll freeze up though all of a sudden.

1. I know that current PS3 models doesn't support PS2 backwards compatibility to where PS2 games won't play on them, but would anything happen if you did try to insert a PS2 game disc inside the PS3? I'm just wondering.

2. Also, if current models of the PS3 don't support backwards compatibility with PS2 games, then how come they still have that option to where you can still create PS2 Internal Memory Cards on the PS3's HDD?

@darknight10000 Yes. Because all PS3s run using the same OS, any update to it's firmware will affect all PS3's. There is no way that Sony can update only the Slim or only the "Fat" PS3.

@alleypuppy Actually, not so. Since the PS3 has been jailbroken, we now know what makes it tick. The startup boot logo and sound are called "coldboot.raf" (boot logo) ,"coldboot_stereo.ac3" and "coldboot_multi.ac3" (stereo and multichannel boot sound, depending on your system settings). If you take apart the 2.80 / 2.85's update PUP, both boot files are present. The PS3 just selects which to use based on the mode it's running on. Making the new version the norm 3.00+, was purely Sony's choice.

i start up my ps3 alot but for some reason the ps3 slim start-up sent me back to good 'ol times when i first got my slim. =) all i used to play is world at war and playstation home. oh the memories.
