@aDieuSeul Actually he married twice, the first wife died, some say it was written in because Doyle's wife died just before the writing of this story and also the reason he killed Holmes off. People were so upset that he even got death threats from readers. Finally he started writing again with "The Empty House" being the next one bring him back from the grave. Later on he had Watson get married again.
Sherlock Holmes actually never fell at all. This is told from Watson's perception of what happened. What actually happened was that Holmes tossed Moriarty from the waterfall then left clues to make it seem as though he fell as well to throw off any pursuers. Doyle was actually tired of writing Holmes and wanted to focus on more serious writing. He gave Holmes a proper swan song in the form of an equal and opposite. Doyle ran low on cash and resurrected Holmes who later retired as a bee keeper.
@joker4694 Fraid so! I enjoyed the books and found them by accident before they were lumped in with Stephen King. But yeah, he got married. The first one is the beekeepers apprentice by laurie r king x
@atm142 Well Doyle wrote The Hound of The Baskervilles (the best novel length Holmes story IMHO) after The Final Problem and it sold so well and likely even got Conan Doyle a knighthood, which was also a factor in resurrecting Holmes. THOTB was supposed to be a pre Great Hiatus (the period after Holmes defeated Moriarty at Reichenbach and was presumed dead 1891-1893) case. Although there's some Sherlockians who think THOTB happened after the Holmes/Moriarty Reichenbach battle.
@OmegaShenron6574 Fedora I think. They do dress them well even while climbing! Wouldn't a trilby be three pointed? I wonder if the hat the man leading the horse for Holmes isn't a trilby. The details in these episodes never ceases to impress me. Down to the crown on the cow's head. :)
6:09 -- Holmes is actually smoking the pipe he has been known in other incarnations to smoke! Good thing he isn't wearing the deestalker, or it'd be too cliched.
I have come to notice (at least, in this series if not sometimes in the stories themselves), that Watson is so very gastronomically inclined. He is forever asking for lunch when Holmes is more than ready to spring after the villain. Ah, like us he is a mere mortal.
well he was also a soldier who was injured and then became critically ill in afghanistan, if i came back to society i would be a bit of a scavenger too, id constantly be afraid of not having food
i readed the book and everything why sherlock let watson go !! it was a obvious trap .... if watson was there sherlock was not dead that's bad :(( sad end :(
Sometimes I want to scream.......watson you dolt........then I remember Holmes superb intellect.....and also that if I was in watsons place I would be just as oblivious......lol Pointless comment
@sailorearth2007 My parents took me to visit the Reichenbach falls in Switzerland when I was about 12.
I already read all the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and was a big fan at this age.I also visited his famous adress in London.
I couldnt read them in english at this time but now I speak fluent english and can watch this show in english and more than 10 years after I still remenber those places while I watch this epeisode.Great memories.
@naruotno1fangal Yes Conan Doyle was asked by his fans to bring holmes back to life so he made him survive to the fall.He did not retired but kept the fact that he was alive secret before his return.
During this hiatus I think its right that he was a beekeeper and did a bunch of other things.I havent read the books in a while so im not sure.
@JoeDurobot a trip down memory lane is allways comforting... I know someone who works at thr baker street adress and they get over 20,000 letters a year asking him to solve real crimes...gr8
I happen to live in Switzerland, to precise in Bern. Switzerland is a beautiful county but sadly there too many people and space is running slowly short. I can offer some information about Switzerland if you like?

Yes, "The Sign of Four", but there's no mentions about Watson marrying her and in the following episodes he still lives with Holmes.

@JoeDurobot At that age I remenber it was the best trip ever, going to Switzerland just to see the place where Holmes "died".
I spent a long time looking into the falls and thinking about all the time I spent reading about that great hero.
I was wearing my deerstalker and my fake pipe and took some pictures next to the falls fighting with my brother as Moriarty.
I hope that every holmesian can visit this place, if you can do it!
Sorry for the long comments people.Just memories you know ...
