Hearing Frank Welker as the announcer makes me think of his Nibbler voice from Futurama. The irony of this parody is that video games have evolved into the exact opposite of what this parody was lampooning them to be at the time: mindless entertainment. I wonder if Steven Spielberg got his hands on a beta or early version of Super Mario World prior to this episode's original premiere, which came out in Japan the same year.

I remember this Tiny Toons Mario Bros Parody perfectly. Tiny Toons ran from 1990 to around 1993. This was a later episode around '93. By then 80's Nintendo was considered old-fashioned and Super Nintendo was all the rage, but because I was already 13 in 1993, and had played 80's Nintendo from ages 7 to 9 through 1987, 1988 and 1989, I understood the reference to Super Marios Bros. Plus I saw the Mario Bros 1989 TV cartoon - never missed an episode

For everyone wondering, the advertised game console is the "Numbmindo System". The Mega Mushroom in New Super Mario Bros. makes this scene even funnier in retrospect, considering how long it took for Nintendo to actually implement such an exaggerated power-up in one of the main Mario games (15 years from this episode's original airing to NSMB's release).
