Made it for T-Day 2011. SMASH hit! My first bird too and it was perfect thanks to you. My family was stunned. Thanks for the tips on the baked macaroni too! Smoked cheddar makes all the difference!
Awww shoot. I wish I had come across this method a few hours ago, but there's always next time. Thanks for taking the time to share your recipe. It looks delicious:-).
i cant wait to do your turkey, im preparing right now!!!! my boyfriend did ur peach cobbler and he loved iit. i dont cook and i'm learning from you. i just had my first child and i want my new family to enjoy thanskgiving as if i've been cooking forever! so thanks!!!! hey where is ur facebook fan page
This is the first time I've heard of a buttermilk brine- I've always used an aromatic water-based brine- but it's obvious this girl knows what she's talking about. That is one beautiful bird!
Hmmm, never thought about buttermilk on a turkey. I do that with my chicken , before I fry it , so why not a turkey ? Thanks for these wonderful tips !
can you repost the link for the full recipe. when i click on the link it above it says it doesn't exist. Thank you for posting this it is very helpful
Oh ok! Got it! Its my first time making thanksgiving dinner. Love your recipes so definitely wanted to check your turkey one out! Thanks for the help!
@ViriBean The buttermilk mixture is only a brine. It's purpose is to deeply tenderize the meat and make it super moist. Once the turkey has sat in the buttermilk brine, there is no need for it anymore. It has done it's job, so it needs to be rinsed off. Example: Think of it like coloring your hair. You put the coloring in, let it do it's thing and then you rinse it out.
You are the bomb.com. I love all of your recipes. I want to try this, but I normally use oven bags to cook my turkey in. If I go that route, would I need the apple & orange?
During the first half of the cooking, do you place a foil "tent" over the top half of the turkey and then remove for the remaining cooking time? I've done this to prevent the top of the turkey from burning.
I really like how you prepared your turkey. I'm going to try it. But I have to say that I love the music to this video, what is the title of it and who performs it? Many thanks! Shllbmn28@gmail.com
Your recipes are so down-to-earth it's AWESOME! I love brining, but I haven't yet tried buttermilk so I'm going to use your recipe. Since you love using buttermilk, have you ever tried saving a cup of store-bought cultured buttermilk and to it adding three cups of whole milk to make your own "cultured buttermilk"? It keeps going, just remember to save a cup for your next batch and you never have to pay for buttermilk again. Cheers!
I am the cook in the family, but never brined a turkey. I tried your buttermilk brine, and the turkey came out very moist. I brined for 2 days prior to roasting. Thanks for a wonderful cooking idea.
I was the talk of turkey day--I used your turkey recipe and it turned out fabulous. My dad fries the turkeys every year- this time everyone was talking about your recipe. Thanks- keep those recipes coming.
@tmedina2008 just a reply to you Q. Cultured buttermilk is the norm....uncultured also know as old fashioned buttermilk is actually hard to find now a days, but was easy to find back in the days when churning butter was the norm lol.
So in short, yes, cultured is good. Im using this same recipe this year so i cant wait to come back on this vid and let everyone know how it turned out, would love to hear from you aswell. Happy Thanksgiving
@wayneready....Thanks! The bird was DELICIOUS! The meat was sooo soft and flavorful. We also used Divas mashed potatoe, cabbage, and the mac and cheese recipe! They were all a hit...Still eating the left overs tonight! THANKS DIVA!
The hot water method-can it be used if I am not brining? I just looked at my turkey and its pre-basted so i'm not brining but I'm still using the rest of the recipe. Please get back to me asap if you can. Thanks!
@dixiedad67 my boyfriend found her youtube. he cooked the peach cobbler her way, he liked it alot! i got jealous soooo, im stealing her recipes, lol!! i love her

im confused as to why u have to rinse off the turkey after referigerating it for that long.. doesnt that make all the flavor and ingredients go away?
