@DarkDavie I play the main part with my fingers holding down the seventh frets on the B and G strings, with the high E ringing out...the rest is hard to explain...Peter's arpeggiating is quite elaborate! It's mainly those 3 notes, with the variations of playing the 3rd fret on the high E (quite a stretch! he's probably moving his finger up to the 8th fret on the B string to get that same G note) then the 5th fret on High E. Hope this is of some help! Definitely one of his stranger riffs!
@REMchout Thanks Chout! In the 50 or so minutes since I posted my comment, I think I figured it out somewhat - For the A and G notes before the riff repeats, I'm using the 10th and 8th frets on the B string respectively, while keeping my index finger on the 7th of the G string... I don't know if that's right, but it saves killing my hand by moving up to the E! XD It's a great song, if a little confusing. :P
Hi, I play it like this, I think it's pretty correct. Sorry if my explanation is chaotic, I don't know how to tab. :)
E:O-0-2-2-2-3-2-2-2-2-5-2-
B:-3---3---------3-------3 > play 4 times, but on the fourth time just omit the last two notes, and play the third fret on B string instead of fifth on E string.
Thanks for posting this, I went to see R.E.M at the Hollywood Palladium a few weeks later. Memories...

Thanks!
I'll try it when I have a guitar around my puter.

@Epiplayer123 seems wrong - 3 strings are heard, not just 2 and one sounds open all the time

@seethroughdog And Peter's playing higher up than that, too. Ah dammit, what are these notes? D:

It sounds like he's dying at 1:40, doesn't it? Early R.E.M. was great, how I wish I could have been there.
