Very nice!. I wish more folks would do a rundown like this of their particular aircraft. Other than seeing them at the airport, this is the first time I have seen the interior and cabin. I always figured the Twin Otters had all the fancy equipment like all the other aircraft, this supprised me that the otter, at least this one, is pretty much a VFR craft with very minimal equipment. Thanks for the overview!
this company sucks i worked there as a technician, they hire unqualified philipino
" technicians" over qualified ones depends how much they suck the Canadian engineers c**k. be careful if you fly those.i got fired because i was against their unsafe aviation technical practices.they hire carpenters and house electricians for their aviation maintenance crew, cos they supply women to the Canadians.
Thanks much for clarification. no one quit during my period. but i remember one engineer got fired because he refused to sign for what he didn't do . there is no point of talking about management. i signed a agreement after being hired. when i went to Maldives to work ' they gave me a different agreement to sign.
i don't know, on their homepage is only written, that you need a maldivian cpl... i guess a required flight time is not mentioned... but let me know, if you get any number ;)...
bloody aussies! haha good man, if I got caught flying with no shoes on i'd get a word in my ear! Im hopefully gonna be crewing on these on my next job. sweeeeett as!
Since they're flying from water, if they lose an engine they can simply pull the power back and land straight ahead. The autofeather system on the Twin Otter occasionally activated even though an engine failure hadn't occured. So it's one less thing to worry about when flying from floats.
@fly4fun Are you sure you want to "simply pull back the power and land straight ahead" if there is huge swell or other obstacles? Like um the reef or the runway? I would have rather had the autofeather.
Does anyone know where the other video went of the Maldives Air Taxis doing fly buys, It was really cool and had a dance song as its theme. Havent been able to find it for a while.
I don't have experience flying the otter but my experience in other aircraft leads me to believe that they simply control the friction (or resistance) for the throttle and prop levers. Most airplanes have friction locks. Sometimes the vibration in the a/c will cause the levers to move on their own or sometimes they are too stiff and you can't smoothly advance the throttles or props or get the right setting. I could be wrong.
Yeahhh operations are under VFR and pure dead reckoning/pilotage

why do they not use autofeather for amphibious T-Otters?
josenar145 4 years ago
Since they're flying from water, if they lose an engine they can simply pull the power back and land straight ahead. The autofeather system on the Twin Otter occasionally activated even though an engine failure hadn't occured. So it's one less thing to worry about when flying from floats.

@fly4fun
Very valid point. It gave you a sense of safety sometimes, especially because you always got airborne before VMC.

And the 2 "friction" knobs on the engine control panel do what exactly? He never mentions them or did I miss it somehow?
