Wow, this is amazing stuff, I though Terrence McKenna, and people like Neal deGresse Tyson had something to say, but damn, Fred Alan Wolf has got something even better up his sleeves.
Other races in the universe would be observing the universe as well, and believing things there-about the universe and themselves. If such races came first, would they not be the ones who defined reality as it is observed?
@88Lyndsie - Energy is not a substance, but an "ability to do work". Work is an ability to move "things" around. But the world is not made of things (quantum fields are not substances), so work is perhaps more accurately "the ability to influence the probable outcomes of acts of observation".
He's putting a label on "lack of existence". Talking about the "existence" of nothing or better yet "nothing exists". Which is funny because that's kind of what us "non believers" would sound like to them, but we put a space between "no" and "thing", pointing out that "no thing exists", or better yet "no things exist". We've come to terms with the fact that nothing does not exist. He's saying that it exists. Wtf!! And they accuse us of doing this.
He's still separating "contentiousness" and "lack of contentiousness". They are one. It's not like contentiousness creates matter or matter creates contentiousness. He's saying, "something must have existed before existence for existence to exist." Yeah it was existence. Can't he see that this is a non argument? It's funny because these type of people scorn non believers and claim that people who do not believe in the separation between self and not self believe this same fallacy.
Quantum mechanics says nothing whatsoever about consciousness. Trying to understand consciousness by studying QM is like trying to understand traffic jams by looking at brake fluid under a microscope. Yes, brake fluid is at the bottom of the causal chain that leads to traffic jams, but you are looking at absolutely the WRONG LEVEL OF DESCRIPTION to understand anything meaningful about the phenomenon.
If god created man in his own image, we are created in the image of a creator. The knowledge we discover is inherently our right. If god created the universe, physicists are the inventors of tomorrow, just now learning to read the coding of god. Assuming that one small sect of thousands is righteous enough to claim right to the true interpretation of one god among thousands, some of which, christianity takes it's historical record from... Check out the Sumerians...
The bible is a hierarchical regulated and believe it or not, but controlled and dictated archive that has to be accepted by minds and philosophers that don't even grasp the idea of the electron. A philosophy that is ever interpretive. Fred Alan Wolf, Michio Kaku, and Niel Degrasse Tyson, are the modern day Galileo's, using science and philosophy, both historic and modern, using truths to confirm theories. The bible couldn't account for wireless technology, lasers, and hadron colliders...
plato yeah right, there were many people hundreds of years before them that had similar ideas, for example read psalms, creationist based off of genesis and ancient hebrew figured out that light & the energy from a spoken word from god literally gives energy to create a universe which had to be done by a super intelligence, and its not -soul- the word is -spirit-, soul refers to physical makeup only,
@aurian555 i believe the universe/god force will resonate(like atttracts like) with each individuals thought pattterns, whatever the intention is.

Religions are, in a sense, collective visions, wills, and realities.

question- if energy never dies, and we are all energy, isnt that a soul, since we return to pure energy?

There is no "we".
There is no "me".
There is no "you".
Nor energy.

@alexd29 - By the same token, "existence" is ill-defined. Most definitions amount to so much hand-waving or tautology.
I find the claim that "nothing exists" only as absurd as the claim that "existence exists".

To me, the collapse of the wave function collapse is the "Big Bang." It is matter popping into existence out of nothing.

Good point about the distinction between soul and Spirit. And the
reality is that who we are is the light and sound of God made
manifested. Science catches up to ancient spiritual wisdom.
Besides watching the videos I enjoy reading the comments almost
or sometimes more.
