See the movie "Moghilev",Up until end of 1941 Soviet defenders had no air support at all until the Mig 1's appeared over Moscow front. Whilethe ungainly and nose-heavy Migs were not capable dogfighters Migs restored combat morale of ground infantry and issued serious challenge to He111 and Ju-88's that were flying unescorted up until 12/41.
Offensive strategy was unsuccessful. In the first some days have been destroyed or damaged many fighter aircrafts by the Big problem there was a terror of German bombers in the field of the Soviet air bases.
@login098hoywty Poor strategy plagued Soviet AF during entire war- only emergency evacuation of factories to the Russian East saved the means of production for the air force. Contribution of Mig1 showed Soviet ground forces in front of Moscow the skies above them were no longer completely dominated by Germans and that German bombers could no longer fly unescorted with assurance of no challenge by Soviet fighters
The reserves which have arrived on front, could not compensate loss of fighters. Therefore the Soviet bombers acted without fighting protection, and had huge losses.but, this problem became more, because of insufficient training standard pilots. fighting protection has not been properly organised, the radio communication between groups of fighters and bombers properly did not work. From for it, fighting protection overtook groups of bombers and lost them

Soviet Air Force suffered heavily in 1941 from two factors: the terrible attrition on aircraft parked on vulnerable exposed fields during the first weeks of the war AND the great harm done to both designers engineers by Stalin's Yehzovist purges. Lavochkin himself was arrested and imprisoned for a brief period. I-16's were largely destroyed on the ground, leaving the hastily built Mig 1's as stopgaps. They were not well noted as dogfighters but their speed of 391 mph helped them to elude Me s
@IanHunedoara8 Lavochkin has not been taken into custody. Mig was a bad airplane. Because collapsed in flight time. The reasons of defeat of the Soviet aircraft during the first weeks of war was much more. The Air Forces of the USSR had no chances, successfully to be at war with Germans
Of all branches of Soviet military the air force suffered the most in 6/41 and aftermath. Luftwaffe ruled the skies over Russia basically unchallenged until Kursk action in 1943. and even afterward the Russian air force could not keep up with supporting the increasingly successful ground offensives, despite steady improvements in aircraft and tactics. Who then was imprisoned? Petyalkov?
@login098hoywty That's not true. The failure was about losing everything on the forward fields during the first several days. And that's because of offensive strategy.

Political purges were the order of the day and wrought havoc on the Russian war effort

Needs better translation. Migs 1 and 3 are important warbirds and must not be overlooked by combat aviation history.
