God look how amazing these young music Gods looked then, they trully deserve their place at the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame and in Music's History for sure. I can listen to this Beautiful song everyday.
even though i really like the heavier song in the priest catalog, sad wings of destiny, rocka rolla, and sin after sin are the greatest records they have
It's weird hearing a band that can make an amazing song on an album and hear it performed almost exactly the same live, most singers now put so much shit into thier recordings they barely sound recognizeable live. This is just such a good song and such a good band. Rob said they were going to release one last album this year, I hope they have stuff like this on there.
With this song they've entered right in among the gods not to mention that they found their place in the history of music. This song will be strong even after billions of years until the end of time. This song is absolutely universal (comes directly from the universe if not the multiverse). they gripped that cosmic sound and held on to the note. Rob is clearly not from Earth on this song. All were touched by genius on this album and on a lot songs that were about to come on next albums
priest was awesome then and they still are now, tipton doesn't even look any different now days then he did then. These guys are a kickass band and they never sold out or tried to make a stupid ass album trying to appeal to a bunch of rednecks or mommy and daddys boys
I wish Halford would go back to writing real songs like this, this whole album, and things like 'last rose of summer' and stop trying so hard to be "heavy metal". This is the shit. Cool to have it live, youtube rules.
@longslidenyc I wish Halford could go back to singing like this but sadly he can't and I doubt if he wrote songs like this it would be just as good so as long as what he is doing now suits his voice i'm for it.
they could continue on this way... In my opinion, Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings of Destiny are their best albums. After these, they changed genre radically
@Maioneselover no they didn't, they never really changed radically, they changed a little bit from record to record, but every band does that. I think it was technology and better musical and recording equipment that made Priest sound that much heavier and different on say British Steel than they did on say Sad Wings.
@Danimal77 wouldn't say drastic, each album they made was heavier than it's predecessor at that time. Stained Class had some heavy songs and som not heavy songs, So did Killing Machine, but killing Machine did have more heavy songs. They changed, but not drastically, when you thing about how other bands have changed, or Priest later in their career (Defenders of the Faith -> Turbo -> Ram it Down -> Painkiller), i wouldn't say this was a radical change. I think the other change was more drastic.
This song still sends chills...after so many years. The old lineup of my band used to cover it. Sad Wings of Destiny is MASSIVE! Halford is known for his high-pitched screams, but his baritone voice was awesome as well, and it's a shame that he dropped that style of singing.
He didn't drop it. His voice changed. By 1990, his high pitch registers were severely cut off. His voice was CLEAN and high (not as high as this, but still high) throughout the 1980's.. At this stage (1975) he could compete with a prime Ian Gillan and Geoff Tate.
@Danimal77 I was not speaking about his high voice. I was referring to the baritone voice he used in songs like this and "Here Come The Tears." Once Priest got into full-on heavy metal mode, Rob did not sing in this baritone voice. At least, I can't think of any later examples from the 80s or beyond.
Rob is such a talented singer. That paired with their twin guitar attack and Hill holding the bottom; they are amazing. It was probably some stupid emo kid that thumbed this down when he realized his fruity bands sucked. Priest ROCKS!!!
I think it's great they stayed together all these years.Robs voice is outstanding.

They either made amazing albums or boring ones.
