Absolutely brilliant! I would go to a theater to see a fully realized version of this concept. Hollywood would do well to take a page from your book and return to good story telling uncluttered with effects and noise.
Its a shame Indy 4 was such a mess. What were they thinking? It took Lucas,Spielberg and Harrison Ford nineteen years to agree on that script?
Sadly, the poor performance at the box office would put a damper on any chances of a fifth Indy. Bradley Cooper as Indy!
Actually,I think Indy 2 sucked also. I';ve read accounts where Lucas apologizes for it...saying he was going thru a divorce at the time which accounted for the shitty story and dark tone to the movie. Part 3 had a few good moments. But parts 2 and 4 were atrocious.
I think they dropped the ball and ruined any chance of continuing the art that was Raiders of the Lost Ark.
This is AMAZING. It made me want to see THIS movie instead of the actual Indiana Jones movie....(although if this actually existed I think the world would implode from awesome). Super cool! Though it made me think Indy was a rip-off, not a homage....
@whoiseyevan This was absolutely brilliant. Seamless, I couldn't tell it was stitched together from multiple movies. Lovingly produced. And a good homage: good to see Spielberg's inspirations and influences!
@codename617 yes they should play these like on amc or something i would watch them and im only 19 years old seriously they should bring stuff like these back!!!
whoiseyevan - you have a remarkable talent, in fact, you are that good that some of the posters here think that this is an actual trailer to a 1950s B-movie called RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Thankyou also, for resurrecting the wonderful old Chuck Heston movie SECRET OF THE INCAS and for breathing new life into it.
Very well done. You must have seen alot of old serials and black & white films to put all these clips together. That is basically what George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have to do. They too have seen the serials and that is what Indiana Jones is based on. I don't care if an idea came from a 1930's or 1940's movie. It's all good.
@RogerBravoLucas Really? Spielberg and Lucas are very honest about stealing from the past, and reusing famous themes and concepts. Nothing original has been done in a long time. Good artists take the good things and repackage. That's not a bad thing; sometimes things have to be restructured for a younger audience.
@flcl4evr - Yeah! I heard the theme from Patton, too. But this is still a great gag and I like it. I'm sure many of these scenes from all these different movies influenced Spielberg somewhat.
Always thought it interesting the similarity between Raiders and the book "The Spear of Destiny," by Trevor Ravenscroft. Nazis seeking an occult symbol of immense power, a Professor Ravenswood (~ Ravenscroft~) and the story ends with the item hidden in a US govt warehouse. Lots of similarities.
@whatevers31 I'm guessing you missed the point of "premakes". I wouldn't dream of stealing... I'm actually trying to get people to remember that these films exist.
@whoiseyevan That whatevers31 reminds me of some people. I write a superhero style version of Jane Eyre and they think I'm plagiarizing. Even after I tell them about Pride, Prejudice and Zombies.
This is great! Of course, we know where Lucas & Spielberg got Indiana Jones from, he was actually Charlton Heston's Harry Steele in "Secret of the Incas" (Paramount, 1954) in beautiful Technicolor!
Very clever ! Very cool ! Think about it, there is no limit to the number of movies that you could create this way ! The major motion picture companies should hire you to make trailers because you have created real art with them !
The great thing about this mini classic is it leaves you wanting more ... much more in fact. I loved the way "whoiseyevan" successfully welded together Heston characters Harry Steele and Brad Braden to create a very believable black and white Indiana Jones.
@3investigators Raiders was very obviously a tongue-in-cheek homage to these very movies and Sunday serials that Lucas and Spielberg both loved. Both of them have admitted as much on numerous occasions. In other words Raiders of the Lost claimed nothing as its own. Just to clarify.
Great work! You re-made my favorite movie of all time using the very films and serials that influenced the film! My jaw dropped when I saw the rolling boulder and the Ark of the Covenant. Very impressed with your effort here, sir. Take a bow.
Having old movie buffs for parents I grew up watching the classics on TV while being taken to see "modern" classics like Star Wars and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" so this trailer is a little slice of heaven for me and I appreciate the hard work that went into making it. I can't wait for your "Star Wars" and I'd love to see you tackle "Close Encounters" using films like "Earth Versus the Flying Saucers", "War of the Worlds' and "The Man from Planet X". It was obvious the look and even some of the attitude influenced our beloved Indy even though Lucas has never acknowledged it but then "The Making of Star Wars" mentions "Flash Gordon" but not "The Hidden Fortress".
I think it's funny that half the people commenting here think for some reason that all these clips came from some single lost film. It says right up in the description which movies were sampled, fellahs....some 24 different ones.
Great job on the Peter Lorre "Mr. Moto" addition, btw.
