i can play the serpentine offering but i just cant get the doubles in the verse but everything is not to had check out my channel should i post the serpentine offering on drums
@hrkfgjrj I play straight singles, not a big fan of heel toe and doubles. Then again, as u can hear, I play triplets and not 16th notes as on the record. Watch my footview video : )
@blindedbydarkness I think it's faster than that, the tabs I found had the whole song at 160 bpm, then 32nd notes on the crazy part. I could totally be wrong or just be missing a tempo somewhere, though.
@Guuuutn he says on his forum he used double strokes (LLRR etc)... and do they REALLY fix HH digitally, or is it just sonmething ppl say to bait MayheM or what?
@blindedbydarkness A drummer friend of mine talk with HH, and he assures him that he never use heel-toe in his career, always heel-up... Always, in faster and slower parts, live and in the studio... Cheers
btw hellhammer used doubles, not heel/toe :) ... maybe in couple of years ill be able to play this :P still a beginner... been playing for 4 months now, and i have a decent feet speed...
true your a good drummer your kinda reminds me of meself when it comes to the fast blasts with one hand iam better with my right hand and left hand on hihat
I've heard he said he played heel-toe, of people who had spoken to him. And I know he has been practicing a little heel-toe, but he claims not being very confortable with it yet (From the sickdrummer forums). But who knows.
ya, id be careful who to believe. Jan isnt the type of guy to even go onto forums. He used to do myspace but deleted it. Internet just isnt for him. He's been all about straight singles. Last we talked about it, heel toe to him was cheating haha, which is when I mentioned that 2 foot blasting is cheating haha... his feet have been quite clean lately though. I play in Borknagar so we all kinda know eachother and talk shop when around.
Um Dave, not to be a dick (and I wouldn't to you because I really like yer drumming), but could you please explain why you think 2 foot blasting is cheating?
ya but notice the suffo blast is way different than a real 1 footer. the kicks meet with the snare in the suffo blast. in a proper 1 footer, the snare and kick are back and forth...just a fast thrash beat. Oh well, Im not going to argue over blasting. I play very different types of music and blasting is something I only use when necessary.
I'm with you on this one, single foot blasts just seem to have more drive to them. Having the snare and kick in an actual roll is why blasts have so much balls, when you put the snare and bass on the same note I find it just doesn't sound as powerful.
And besides, if you can't play the straight 8th notes with 1 foot, how are you ever going to get a clean 16th note roll on your feet for double bass patterns?
I notice I often play one-foot when accenting every 3rd hit, and 2-footed when blasting over a straight 4/4 groove or something. But I try to variate and master both types, and I also feel that sometimes one technique fits the music better than the other. Cause in some strange way you can hear the difference, even with triggers. I dunno which I like best...
so you say, i know hellhammers drum tech, he plays in a awesome band called deathfare, he says he plays heel-toe at insane speeds but not otherwise. axis shortboards
Deathfare? Who told you that one? John Gauss is Hellhammers tech...and Kollias' tech and Bostaphs tech and a whole bunch more...he plays in Kult of Azazel
Oooh, I absolutely think he is. Seen Arcturus - shipwrecked in olso DVD? When recording n Sorte, they said the drum tracking went very well very fast.
Yeah ...once you've learned heal-toe it's not hard playing at those speed at all. It's not real double bass to me. It's double strokes.
But I mean that hellhammer is not tight is general, probably the most untight drummer i've heard live. It hurts my ears. Nick Barker, Tony Laruneo (from what i've heard of him) and Daray is A LOT tighter.
I completely agree about the heel-toe technique. Not bashing on drummers who play it, but it's definately not a technique I want to learn/use in double bass rolls..
I dunno, i've seen a bit of both from Hellhammer. But he's for sure not as tight as Barker, and he again must be the most precise metal drummer I know!
Yes. He was the perfect drummer for Dimmu imo, all the odd stuff he does, and the little splash thingies and insane trigged tom rolls. I was sad as fuck when he got kicked out. Still can' t understand why they kicked him. I heard he some problems with alcohol, perhaps that's it?
I agree. He was the perfect dimmu drummer. I have no idea why they kicked him, all I've heard is "difficult to work with" and such. I guess maybe alcohool could be an important reson, but who knows. It's a bit ad anyways, but I have big hopes for this Daray guy: )
it could help on that fast part if you switched from 8th notes to quarter notes. it might not be the way the song does it though so i dunno. i just know when im playin fast i switch to quarter notes i can... i can go about 20 bpms faster like that. just thought id try to help
Partly right, couse I've got a new one! But it's another office chair! This one is actually quite similar to a drum throne, without backrest. I found it at some industial area, so it was free, hahaha.
no offense to you or anything but i love your play and when i heard it at first i thought it sound a bit like a death metal drums solo but its an awesome cover and it coule probably be put over the drumtrack and no one would notice
