I was listening to this song again today because it's funky and I'm stranded. It was performed first by Screaming Jaw Hawkins in 1973, but Paul's first performance of it was in 1971. After a little more investigation, I discovered it was copywritten in 1971 by MLP, which stands for McCartney Productions Limited. Whether he wrote it or Macca or whoever is unclear, but he owns the lyrics and the song. Either from original production or buying it off later.
Such an underrated album ! And my favorite phrase with this song is"catch up Cat Stevens",which actually is catchup cats and kittens, oh well, see you at the bathroom on the right.
i've always been a bit of a paul-mocker for his treacly sentiment:'hey jude, you make me puke...'but this is quite brilliant.i don't think i've heard it in 40 or so years, but i was listening to an old viv stanshall peel session when this came on.i almost didn't even remember it as paul,so mumbed out have i become to his sappy stuff.you should have done a lot more of this type of music ,sir.
@highschoolmusical841 No Paul McCartney Wrote this under the name Percy "Thrills" Thrillington. It was an instrumental on that album but this is also Paul's.
@britnee2469 This was the biggest McCartney's hit in Russia at the time and now Russians are asking Paul to re-release it, but in the West this song wasn't a big deal because radio stations didn't play it for some reason, they played his other songs
Love this: what the heck happened to my Ram album?! Anyway, this is like such a guilty pleasure...I'll always love this as a rarity hardly heard or thought of for ages, but thanks to Youtube here it is, aaah....
So I sat at the table, A laptop at my nose.. Wow, how many my mates have considered this song, As a brilliant, funny, As for lyrics, a silly cantata… Sore were we from the crack, Those desires and frights of next day, Which, oh alas, didn’t want to be got left behind, Those sensual sounds, Those buds that had come into flowers… Though, I haven’t permission to tell… That the clear and profoundly covered, In the genius song, Which Sir James Paul has composed in the verse…
Paul McCartney was asked if it was true that he had fathered two children during the Beatles' Hamburg years. Yes, he replied, but they were two of my early releases.
For the first 10 years of my life, we didn't have a television. We only had a sony record player. I listened to a bunch of albums but my favorite were Ram, Rubber Soul, and Sgt Pepper. I was very lucky.
Ram is definitely one of those "desert island" type of albums.
el maestro logrando esa voz tan cabrona indiscutiblemente una obra maestra aqui en mexico fue muy popular desde que salio el plato caliente en 1971 han oido ese tipo de voz en otro cantante ? haganmelo saber...
I was 21, my brother and I had a disco.... not that kind of stupid music. We played This LP, Allman Bro, Zepplin, Cactus, Free, Black Sabboth, Sly & the Family Stone, Uriah Heep, and all the good rock & roll in Amarillo Texas.
"remember" this one, but it took a "something" moment and Q107 to bring it back.. hey dm3830, still have the original beatles vinyl from 45 years ago?
@REMCUREBOY nice all those that you mentioned are awesome! little dif from mine but its awesome! do u like ram or flowers in the dirt? i still have to finish listening to run devil run,off the ground, and all of driving rain by the way.
@Mrmofongo624 I love Ram, especially "Too Many People" and "Ram On". I do like Flowers in the Dirt, but I lean more towards Off the Ground and Flaming Pie. I do love "Figure of Eight" a ton of Flowers.
i used to listen to this song up to the first up to 1:50 cause i thought it got repetitive. I was wrong. The part is after 2:55. Nobody can scream like paul! awesome song!
@Mrmofongo624 What's even more amazing was his ability to sing sweet, bell toned vocals and go apeshit at the drop of a hat, as this song so beautifully proves.
@Gigrantula58 If you're referring to the Beatles, then I'll have to disagree. Definitely the BEST out of the four, but John and George are daaaaaamn talented. Ringo was a magnificent drummer, but musically, not even close to the level of those three.
@itsbridgetlogann Yeah, but Paul was more of a common man. By the time this record came out, John & Yoko were going through that weird "all-natural" stage. George was coming out with Dark Horse and Ringo...well, Ringo was just doing LSD, alot of LSD. I spoke unclearly, I should have said, "The only sane one".
The first LP I bought was "Ram" when I was 15 in 1970. Played it to death in vinyl, cassette, CD. Never quite tire of it. This is a crazy performance for Paul; almost "Helter Skelter"-ish with that vocal. Such a fun, nonsense song. Always love those distinctive bass lines Sir Paul does, too. Amazing.
Honestly, I knew the tune for ages however while watching Hall Pass I recalled the song, found on tube and was pretty surprised it is Mc Cartney's song, had it on the reel tape long agooo, lovely tune anyway.
He wrote SO MANY great songs that we tend to forget some, like this one for instance wich I find extraordinary... not so many instruments but they all fit and the vocals are insane!
@JesseReith1 Yeah, probably top song on Ram and that's saying something when Dear Boy and Smile Away are on there too. The critics (and his old band mates) got it wrong about this album when it first came out but the reviews will probably be more favourable when it's next re-packaged. Mind you, who the hell cares, just live the music! He should do a RAM tour.
