@rg0057 End-of-life planning is part of the engineering of a product, not the design of a product. Design is a sub-set of engineering that basically encompasses the "how do I build this" question. Computer assisted design is a sub-set of design, just one method of doing what could be done using other methods. You're asking a lot from a sub-sub discipline. Don't blame design for what is really an engineering non-consideration complicated by consumer indifference.

As someone who does this for a living, this is a bit overly simplified, but fairly accurate (software dumbed down for the sake of simplicity). Perhaps videos like this can get people interested in careers like this.
