@AsianBrotherhood1781 Here in the USA Casava is expensive except in New York City Since they are both roots just substitute the casava and let me know how it turns out
Just made and ate my first latke using your recipe but used all purpose flour instead of the meal, gentile here. lol Wowzer so so soooo good, they were suppose to be a part of the meal but instead became the meal. I can't wait to try with some applesauce. Do you have a recipe for noodle pudding? Thanks for a great video.
So great! Almost identical to my fam's recipe, we just don't usually fancy it up with the yukon golds and vidalia onions - Russets and plain ol' yellow onions here, and they are still, and I quote, "crunchy clouds from heaven."
I did try to do sweet potatoes with shallots one year, which were alright, but you have to keep the oil down lower, or the sugar in the sweet potatoes start to smoke.
I dont comment on much of youtube, but I must say I like the show ALOT...I challenge you guys to get on a network...Im sure it will do very well....and by the way, what are the songs are you guys playing in the background
These Latkes are similar to what they in Switzerland call Rösti, however a Rösti is as big as the entire frying pan and is served together with meat and some sort of gravy.
In SWEDEN they eat something called "Raggmunk". To make this, you add shredded potatoes to home made pancake batch and then mix and fry similiar to these latkes. Together with Raggmunkar (plural of Raggmunk) you eat stekfläsk (fried pork) similiar to panchetta and have lingonberryjam as condiment. Try it!
My grandma (Estonian) and mama (Mexican) taught me how to make latkes. I've become the designated latke maker now. I'd have to say I make a damn good latke considering my background, but I'll have to try your grandpa's recipe next time :)
They are delicious I just made and ended up eating just the latkes instead of being a part of the meal. Btw I used the yukon golds what I buy most of time and really think it makes them better even though haven't tried with russet. The middle was kind of creamy because of the yukon having less starch. I just know they make the best mashed.
Well, now I'm having a serious craving for potato pancakes. I have always had them with applesauce - but want to try them with sugar and sour cream. yummy.
these look really good... and i know jewish food is the bomb. and this is coming from a lebanese guy. (our food is similar but better) that being said we dont have any dish like this that i know of. but it looks good as hell even better than the german style im used to!
- typically consist of a simple, wheat-based yeast dough, often flavored with anise, that is thinly rolled, cut or shaped into individual pieces, then fried and finished off with a sweet topping. Buñuelos may be filled with a variety of things, ranging from cheese to yams. They can be round in ball shapes or disc shaped. (wiki)
My Grandma makes them Disk Shape, they are kind of like a Fried Flour Tortilla. Sprinkle sugar on it and hmm hmmmm!
We used yukon gold potatoes and the latkes turned out great! We also added some cinnamon to the applesauce. A whole bag of potatoes only fed 5 people! If I did it again, I would use my electric skillet to fry lots of them at once because we were frying latkes for over an hour!
our traditional meal is matzo ball soup made from scratch it is a recipe that has been in the family for 5 generations can't go into detail it is a family secret, but the soup stock is homemade and the matzo balls are just the perfect texture between a soft and a hard we also make blintzes from scratch and noodle kugel all family recipe we also have a recipe for cow tongue but we rarely have it because dad hates cow tongue anyway have a happy 7th night of hanukkah oh and sorry I prefer donuts
i love you guys, but the way you peel veg scares the shit out of me, hold the veg or fruit properly and pull the peeler towards you, saves you cutting your fingers or knuckles, just a thought....x
we are czech so on christmas eve we have traditional fish soup, fried carp (it has to be carp :)),with potato salad and chocolate cake my granny makes (the best on earth, ofcourse). Also when advent starts every czech family makes loads of little sweets and christmas cookies by traditional recipes....
My mom is Romanian and we always have cabbage rolls with smoked pork hocks and sour cream for Christmas. When I'm visiting family in Romania, my Godmother will bake a "cozonac", which is a traditional nut/candied-fruit filled christmas bread/cake. It takes about a day to make and bake so it's always a very special occasion when someone in my family decides to make it.
A very large country ham, but bc my hubby hates country ham I now make a maple cured ham. Also you have to have fudge. My grandmother mails me a box every year for christmas.
Awesome. I've heard of Latkes many times and I'm really thinking of trying to make some. Seems like a very simple recipe. I'll let you guys know if I make some (and post about it). Thanks for sharing your family tradition with us.
I'm a big fan of latkes (try 'em with a little dark chocolate. DELISH!).
this isn;t a meal, per se, but i've made it a tradition to give my family and friends homemade cocoa mix. I add a new flavor every year, after extensive experimentation. so far, we have plain cocoa, cinnamon cocoa, peppermint cocoa, mocha cocoa (dad's favorite), gingerbread cocoa (the crowd pleaser, and my favorite), and spicy traditional mexican cocoa (my sister's favorite). i've learned how to make marshmallows, too!
I love latkes!!! Most of my family eats them with applesauce, but I prefer to eat them with ketchup!! I def think y'all should put more traditional Jewish dishes on your show...love you guys!!!
Here in Portugal, traditionally, we either eat sun dryed and salted cod fish (which is of course de-salted before we eat it), that we boil along w/ potatoes and cabbage. On the country side, it's more traditional to eat boiled octopus w/ potatoes. :)
They would go well blood sausages...make from pork blood.
