  • this shit is poisining me and i love it!

  • How do you put rock, jazz and folk in the same music and produce something brilliant as this? Folk he said in an interview, and here it is. I feel like he is telling a hot, tense, dark Persian story. I hear snakes hissing, I feel the sand blown by the hot wind scratching on my face and the passion that no other peoples than those in the Orient express.

  • I did in the Summer of 1997. I saw Morphine, Mathew Sweet and Barenaked Ladies in Massachusetts. Morphine was amazing.

  • Story of my life.... fuck it hurts sometimes

  • Thank you for posting this song. Morphine is one of those rare groups that produced something so utterly amazing it can never be compared to anything else. They truly created some of the most beautiful music this world has ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

  • Haven't heard this in forever. <3

  • @TwiLiteCompany.... Go see Twinemen, with Laurie Sargeant on guitar and lead Vocals. It's Morphine minus Mark, and still VERY good.

  • the four people who disliked this are dicks.

  • @MolokoMilkBar23 they will never understand!

  • the sandman will always stay in space here...

  • rest in peace, beloved mr. sandman... love

  • looks like 4 people should have had the rope cut

  • The beautiful die young.

    Thank you Sandman.

  • i hadn't had any idea about this band..i was searching something and i ended up listening this one...and now i can listen it again and again...nice melody and music...love it

  • four people have no idea what real music is...

  • @wyoming7381 Omg stop with that bullshit. Not on these vids, please.

  • loveeee it !

  • @mssummeriCious fuck it!

  • nice

  • The 4 dislikes can go screw themselves.

  • i don't typically care for listening to saxophone music even though i play it myself...but this is notably good music. almost post rock oriented alot of times.

  • Trippy/dune atmosphere stamped all over this music ... Fantastic lyrics, matter of fact . Thanks for posting.

  • i like the way there is this flamenco element- GYPSY!

  • I miss Mark. He was a wonderful sensitive and creative man. Good for us that his music live on ...

  • Morphine is one of the greatest band ever ~this song is amazing

  • I just rediscovered this band. I will literally wait a few months between listening for the first time to a "new" Morphine song on youtube, just....because.

Just listened to this song for the first time tonight. DAAAAAAAAAAMN they were good. Now, I wish I would have driven 10 hours to see them back in the day.

  • to TwiLiteCompany:

I saw them live at an outdoor musicfest in Chicago, about a week before Sandman died. It was, hands down, the best live show I've ever seen.

It was a really hot summer day, and just before they came on stage, the barometric pressure dropped, and the tempurature dropped, and towering cumulous clouds came rolling in overhead above the stage.

And morphine took the stage and three dudes never played so well. It was better than their recordings.

  • @KURTHUNT

They were scheduled to play in Portland OR after their European tour - I couldn't wait to go - Mark didn't make it home. Oh my heart still breaks...and every time I listen to "The Night" I hear tragedy coming.

  • on fire.

  • This group is easily addictive.

  • I have no idea how they do it, but every part of this song is just amazing. It's so unfair for Mark, too, because had Morphine gone on for a good few years more I could see this album being the apex, or at least a high point, of both Morphine and The Sandman's career.

  • Morphine is awesome, nobody else has that low rock sound quite like they do, I have all their albums, anybody who digs Morphine should also check out Mark Sandmans earlier work with Treat Her Right.

  • diggin this...

  • eargasm!!!!! this blows mind....

  • Hooked on morphine.

  • @OneflowerTribe funny ha ha but not so

  • best song ever... can not compare it to any other song...

  • great stuff....looking for this allmost 5 years

  • perfecto! loved it!

  • I love it. Really love it.

  • A friend of mine introduced me to this band in the late 90's. I've never forgiven that friend for doing so, because these guys totally blew my mind...so instead, I thank him.

I've bought this cd time after time, and always managed to lose it or have it stolen..but- I always find my way winding back to their music and introducing it to others who just love it..Thanks for posting. And yes, that is an Oud which is being used.

  • This is not the album's version. It's slightly different - maybe only the mix - but still amazing. Where did you get this one?

  • one of my favourite bands of all time. RIP to the Sandman. I wish I could have been able to catch a live show.

    ;o(

  • oh i think they used the oriental instrument called Oud, but am not sure coz this is defiantly not a guitar or mandolin.

  • Sandman did play a 2 string bass with funky tunings and a glass slide... not saying its not the instrument your mentioning, but Mark's bass setup was anything but conventional

  • That's right. Brahim Fribgane played it, I think.

  • These guys never jumped the shark.

  • paint it black rolling stones Marks era, he also listened to a very eclectic mix of music, I used to hang out with Mark, and he always had all kinds of different thins he was interested in. and it wasn't just music,he was interested in all kinds of world's culture, art. books, offbeat instruments and effects. a really kind and decent guy, no bullshit though, very dedicated to his pursuit of music, took a long time to get any success. much to his credit he persevered. may he r.i.p.

  • Wow, I just discovered this band.... It's basically the music I've been trying to find for years. This is brilliant beyond belief.

  • That's how I felt 10 years ago. Bad timing on my part. A love affair cut tragically short. Forever and always Sandman!

  • @clarinetist13 same here.. couldn't find better words!

  • @clarinetist13 I said the same thing when I discovered them after the Yes album

  • @clarinetist13 I had the same impression 1996 when I bought Yes

  • @clarinetist13 welcome to the amazing world of Morphine..

  • such a cool song... and dana colley's sax is just the best

  • where can i find a live performance of sandman singing rope on fire and the night?

  • @ivansolbes its unlikely you will, this song was only performed live in the last tour before his death, perhaps 25 maybe 30 shows.. I dont think any were officially recorded. Which is a shame, it was an amazing tour. I was lucky enough to see 6 shows on the east coast.

  • . lets smoke some opium dude .. far out .. wow

  • Just heard of morphine and.. I hope there's some people to recommend me best 2-3 albums of them. I'd be appreciated

  • cure for pain (95)

    yes (93)

  • "B-sides and otherwises", i like so much .

  • I like "The Night" and "Like Swimming" too - but "Cure for Pain" is considered their iconic record. My advice: get all of them. They're wonderful.

  • they are all !

Like Swimming is very good ! 1997

  • its like tool minus the metal..

    i like it!

  • what the fuck are you talking about?:D

The only thing the two bands have in common is the quality, but the music itself is completely different.

what do you think they have in common?

  • the mood is sorta the same, very deep and dark.

but yes i agree the music is different. thats where the "minus the metal" part made sense.

  • i could actually see that....

  • Morphine are timeless and great. What an incredible song...

  • ive never heard this song before. its fucking insane! so sexy.

  • This song reminded me the most beutiful time of my life!!! I love simply this song...it makes me feel relax and calm!!!

  • Believe me when I say this. I MUST FIND MORE SONGS with this strange, middle-eastern mellow vibe. Or just any band that experiments with this mellow, ethnic stuff.

And yes, Morphine does bloody rule.

  • please don't compare business whores with sandman.

    thanks.

  • this message was addressed @ juan999 with the edit of morphine instead of sandman

  • Try "Dead Can Dance"! They have a million albums but "Into the Labrynth" and "Spirit Chaser". You might of heard their songs in movies like "man on fire" and many others. The female singers voice is trendy and in dramatic scenes in many movies. I like morphine A LOT, but they dont even compare to Dead Can Dance.

  • did you find something???

  • No, unfortunately. Didn't even find anything vaguely similar to Morphine, although I do quite like Treat Her Right, even though they're distinctly different from Morphine.

  • try bourbon princess...

  • and there is also Twinemen, kind of similar...

  • @ivansolbes well, twinemen is similar because it's the same band with a new singer. but judging from the ..., i'm guessing you knew that and were just being jestful.

  • @BubTheZombie1

Similar, but can't come close to the essence, the spirit that Mark S. brought in

  • @BubTheZombie1 AKACOD is a closer feel to Morphine than Twinemen, but honestly, nothing will ever be the same. Mark was one of a kind, its impossible to bring then influence and sound he had back.

  • Wonderful song.Thank you for posting it, diyopatino.

  • Great.

  • percfect!!!

    =)

  • mooey bweeno!!!

  • my life's song..............

  • the best song ever....

  • exacly

  • awesome

  • so good

  • thanks:)

  • THANK YOU FRONM THE BOTTOM OF MY SOUL FOR POSTING THIS!! I ADORE THIS SONG!!!!! ~e

  • listen sixteen horsepower. very very good

  • the best!!!!!! and this too. "pasajeros nada te alcance"

  • oh what a song...

  • un auténtico lujo

  • My favorite Morphine song.
