The Bishop targeted this one Congressmen because of his family and his name. He would not do the same for the millions of other Catholics who believe likewise those who are pro-choice, believe in birth control, support gay marriage and support the death penalty. Because if he did, his church would be a lot smaller. If Kennedy should not take communion, the church should not take tax exemption. The Bishops pronouncement is a violation of the division of church and state that gives the church immunity from taxation in this nation.

@Gymjocked Kennedy has every right to leave the church if he wants to. It's just the Bishop of the diocese of Providence that is urging him not to receive the blessed sacrament. He could go to a different diocese if he wanted to. Heck, the priests of his own diocese haven't even been told not to let him receive, so he could still go to mass and receive at his regular home parish.

Plus, he was taking care of a diocesan matter, not a public matter, so taxes have nothing to do with it.
