  • @wipers86 Ok fair enough you seem I am an infowarrior there are ALOT of us and one of roles is to spread the message about whats really going on and by spamming the walls of youtube videos is one way to get the message out. • I wonder if in this "cathouse" it smells strongly of urine?

  • Feel 20 years younger!

  • AWESOME SONG

  • Oh yeah, turn it up!!! :)

  • I first heard this in the 90`s in (UK) Leeds Phonographic club, mixture of Gothic, industrial , pyschedelic people , tripped out drunk and speedy dance and fashion styleed people moshing/dancing in darkness with strobes and smoke. I heard it again in BRistol (The Chill Bar) last weekend. those were the days.. What else were we listening too ( Fugazi to the Ozric tentacles all in 10 minutes. I wish I could remember .. Snakebite and black with double pernod and double Vodakas and acid.

  • @simonlevitate as barman, I prob served you back then in Le phono - saturday afternoon all pints were 50p for the first 2 hours. (and if you were ever sick the next day - it's cos the dishwasher only used cold water and there was no soap - yak)

  • joan jett anyone?

  • this song still fucking rocks after 20+ years!

  • @MrMonsterstiffy Yeah u right

  • first heard this song when i ran out of gas between New York City and Buffalo, NY. Had to wait for it to finish, and then the next three songs to hear who did it before hitchhiking on a dark thruway for hours. I'm still a fan and dig the heavy trippy feel, and sax!

  • Some of Danielle Dax's videos such as "Big Hollow Man" and "Cathouse" are psychedelic. That's because of the special effects used.

  • NO LADY LIKE DAX. AWL LUV!

  • @idol2Idol: oh so you think you're cool just because you listen to Jesus & The Mary Chain? Pffft.

  • Rocks! Great sax!

  • see vid MY CAT SONG "TOMBOY" or MICHAEL MOSLEY'S BLUES PICKING

  • this makes me want to Dance all around my neighborhood

  • dirty pretty

  • im going to dig out my 12" of this and play it very loud. The neighbours are about to discover Danielle Dax lol!

  • Ole,ole las perritas.....

  • yup Lemon Kittens

  • 200K views. Deserves 200K Thumbs up!

  • Danielle rocks!!!!

  • I recognize her voice from some band.. but can't say way..

  • @ZiddanSleaze

She was in The Lemon Kittens I think.

  • One of the best!!!

  • i remember watching a Nebraska bowl game back in the 80's where this and at least one other Danielle Dax songs from this album were used as filler going into commercials. was shocked at the time as thought nobody at a major network would have access to that type of music.

  • First saw this on Night Flight in the 80s and it still rocks today!

  • Win !

  • what's not to like?! :D

  • Love this. So glad i was pointed over to this very talented lady artiste. I will definitely be buying any albums that are still in print.

  • Legend .......bows <33

  • There was no 'goth' groove in the early eighties, whereas later, labels to separate types of pop music became a trend tool, to sell hyped up styles? Bauhaus was probably the most 'goth' popular 'underground' band back then? Her music is an example of a new type of dance music, replacing the dying disco trend in the early eighties. Euro dance music, verging on/approaching what's now sectioned off as 'techno rock'?

  • i like her because she´s got sth. to say and i do like her attitude towards fashion...here´s what she said during an interview in 1985:"Fashion's just a joke. It's really only for people who want to be clones, who want to be told what to do. Um. . . it's just a tribal thing, no different to wearing different types of warpaint, or different tattoos. It's just a means of indentifying your clan."

  • This is really awesome. I've never heard of Danielle Dax till I decided to look her up today. I think this song is just too awesome for words. I just love finding original unique artists like this. There's not so much of them these days but at least we have the classics. Acts like Siouxsie Sioux, Lene Lovich, Nina Hagen, my list goes on. Thanks for posting this, it's amazing. = )

  • Although her later stuff became much more fluffy and poppy, she was still doing it better than most other musicians.

  • Saw her at the Tom Allen Centre, Stratford once. Before the concert, I was attempting to negotiate the auditorium doors with a pint in each hand when this stunning goth woman saw my struggle, held the doors for me and took a swig of one of the pints. It was Danielle and I still have that pint glass! In a world where individuality and imagination actually counted for something, she would be huge. An intelligent, talented and beautiful woman to cherish.

  • I just got POP EYES on ebay not long ago, and now have just to get BLAST THE HUMAN FLOWER anew (my old cassette coy broke) to finish my collection. :) (have POP EYES and JESUS... on vinyl - sadly, but not for my wallet, my POP EYES is the later cover)

  • She is stunning. I saw her open for the Sisters of Mercy years ago.

  • Move it!

  • I still want to have her babies..and im a married man of 15 years....

  • I remember hearing "White knuckle ride" and loving it. But it wasn't 'til I saw this video that I fell madly in love with Danielle's amazing talent. I went out and bought "Dark-adapted eye" the next day and then proceeded to collect everything and anything with her name on it.

It's been twenty three years and I still love her music as I did then.

  • Indeed. Takes me back to being 17 - again! Still surprised she was not more successful as her music was way more diverse than this fabulous classic. A real talent who should consider releasing on the interweb. I'd download.

  • This is like, 20 years old? I never got why it wasnt a bigger hit.

  • ✰✰✰✰✰+

    SpiritualSensual !!!

    Oui !!!

    ❤

  • few albums? lol :Đ 3 amazing better than 10 worthless

  • nothing to say: excellent

  • too bad she gave up on her singing when her musical career didn't took off. she now works as an interio decorator.

  • what a nice hybrid creature

  • É legal

  • whoa, very cool... i just found out about her... awesome!

  • Its not fair that the best artists often get so little recognition. Oh well. I'll be listening to this music when they are saying "Lady Who?"

  • Thanks for this video. Too bad there are so few DDax albums.

  • Ah...*sigh* .....Thanks McWench....

  • She was awesome. Yeah music in 80's was the best, and so was the scene, so much variety. UK is a joke now, full of mostly bland musicians and bands and a stupid empty pop culture, what happened? I still live in 80's. I recommend you do too. :)

  • Damn, this song and video always put me in a good mood!

  • He's a lucky man.

  • I miss them all.. Danielle Dax, Sisters of Mercy... AH those were the days when music was MUSIC... and don't forget.. PETER MURPHY! YES!!!!

  • Dont forget Susie and the banshees, echo and the bunny men and The Smiths!

  • I agree!!

  • Yeah, I know what you mean! I'm 40 now and fell really old! lol, but see the modern day "goths" and think" I was really there!!"

  • She was brilliant. I truly wish she was still making music. It is a great shame that artists like Danielle Dax fell out of favour.

Still Grace Jones managed to revitalise her career in a spectacular, and thoroughly justified way. Perhaps there is hope for Dannielle as well.

  • Its partly because of crap programs like the Xfactor plugging dross bands thats just there to make money rather than be original. Even the places like pubs where new artists start is dying due to all the bloody pubs being forced to close down. Very Grim.

  • why is the noughties so shit for music, clothes , everything , its like the deathknell of all creativity the noughties.

  • the noughties suck!...........fucking bands are shit!.............full of check shirt wearing twats!

  • @Idol2Idol the noughties were the deathknell for music/fashion/creativity. whats the noughties? turd rate RnB and white trainers n sweatpants like it was something to desire . Gross!

  • @Idol2Idol ckeck shirt wearing twats ; THAT WOULD FIGURE ! !

  • I will subscribe, favorite and rate if you could post Id parade which is my favorite by her!

  • I have a poster of Danielle on my wall. Incredible artist! This video kicks the sh*t out the music videos on now.

  • Love her! Man.... those were the days (or nights, rather).

  • FUCK SHE WAS EXQUISITE!

  • Saw and met her , opening for the Sisters, on Vision thing. IT was incredible, she is a goddess, it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen in my life.

  • Back in the 80s, I worked in a record store. It was a little indie shop in Dallas TX called VVV. I was a big fan of Ms Dax. Still am.

  • That smile she gives around 1:33, so nice... she loved vamping for the camera, and we still love her for it!

  • 16 years on earth and I never heard of her until today. Great singer.

  • oh my God, this is such a classic awesome song!!!! She never got the success she deserved, did she!? Thanks for uploading!

  • THANKS so much for posting this up, jusr adore her!

  • Brings back memories indeed...haven't seen this video in ages. Last time was on :Video One hosted by Richard Blade here in LA (well Orange County). Guess Im showing my age as well lol...

  • Anybody got the lyrics???

  • Wow, talk about brining back some memories! Haha!

  • THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!!!

I love this, and haven't heard it in YEARS! :-)))))))

  • Was there a video to The ID Parade????

  • Sex pistols, b-52's, & Chrissy Hynde all in one. Damn, dani gardner's hot. i LOVE this song. nice 80's video effects.

What a voice. Love to hear her duet with Lene Nystrom.

Keep kicking butt little lemon kitten!!! :-)

  • PLENTY of taste left!

  • ...oops! and I wanted to add that a little blackbird told me that she may be putting out new material this year or the next. Should prove to be interesting what her music style will be like in this decade.

  • Thank you ever so much Wenchtits for posting this...brings back great memories of when I saw Danielle as the opening act for Sisters of Mercy back in '90 or '91 (my mind's a bit spotty;) in Los Angeles for their Vision Thing Tour. She was this 7 foot blond amazonian goddess, swinging her guitar and pitch perfect purrs...

  • Still one of my favs and I remember 89 i was 18 I am still in love with her

  • I once sat opposite her on the underground in London......she looked stuningl! ;-)

The b-side mix is even better!

  • man, i remember dancing to this at the old goth clubs... great memories...

  • The gorgeous and talented Danielle Dax - love it!

  • I had NO idea that she'd made videos..I was far too cool to follow MTV (evil grin) where I doubt these efforts ever cast a single shadow...thanks Miss Wench, rest assured that Your Darkness is Darker than their Darkness >8^)

  • I love Danielle Dax. I'd give my left nut to suck her fanny.

  • Man..That is a beautiful sentiment..

Well put that man...course you may be a woman or a himshe sort of thing but I doubt it..I agree

  • So...what? The rest of us like her, so why would we care what you and some magazine say about her?

  • I enjoy those bands as much as the next person, but I didn't know this was a "gothiest of the goth" contest.

I think most of us have grown out of the "good" goth, "bad" goth music phase and just listen to whatever the hell we like.

  • I just wanted to get a reaction from people about what I read in the magazine. Some is true some is not. But about Dax I have too agree. It's cheesey, bland and very music industry-like.

  • But NME also said this in Jan 19 1991: "Dax has always been noted for her diverse pairings of musical influences and her opinionated lyrics...The contrasts in texture, feel and delivery constantly shift w/o ever losing focus" giving her album (Blast the Human Flower) an 8 out of 10 rating.

  • Being in the US, I was oblivious to "goth" and had no idea DD was even (briefly) lumped in w/"goth" until after she'd stopped recording. I've been obsessed since her 1st solo album (Pop Eyes), and for me the Inky Bloaters period is the high point.

  • NME? Yeah - I know I take to heart whatever they or Rolling Stone say about off-genre artisits.. NME was also a champion of the "Brit Pop" movement right around the time in question, so I wouldn't take their credentials to be worth say 1/3 a cup of day old tea for that time period....

"Bauhaus are only 'goth' like RADIOHEAD are 'prog'."

to quote the same rag - courtesy of their '98 re-union tour... need I go on?

  • Bauhaus released the first Goth-single in 79 remember? Bela luigis death. So yeah, they are Goth. Radiohead is for me Indie music.

  • isnt goth technically indie tho?

  • Not really.

  • there are many goth acts on indie labels. Technically Dax was never a goth, even though she had many goths as fans.

  • Do you mean the genre gothic rock? There is no "technicalities" to any of this : /

  • Screamin' Jay Hawkins was popping out of coffins and singing about demons before any of those pasty white boys started playing with razors and eyeliner.

and yes, this is coming from a HUGE fan of Bauhaus.... get over yourself, dude.

  • haha

  • I did a search on Screamin' Jay Hawkins, watched some of the videos. Glad I stumbled across your comment (why has no-one told me about him before?) Definitely a "youtube random gem", I'll be looking at more of his stuff.

Mind you, his style seems to be more voodoo than goth I would say. And I'm pretty sure there were acts from musical-hall days (like 1920's etc) with people doing creepy songs and dressed sort of macabre...

  • "real goths" hahahahahahaha.

    genre purists are fucking losers.

how about listening to watcha want, whenya want?

btw, you've obviously never heard Pop Eyes, which is about far from the mainstream as you can get.... (besides the Residents)

  • .....

  • Pop eyes is a great c-d. Have you ever heard the one she put out before that ?Jesus Egg That Wept. It's an EP with only about 6 tracks or so but it awesome none-the-less.

  • @bent2 You are just jealous because more people liked Bauhaus, The Cure, The Cult and The Banshees than Danielle. I hate these precious types who think that because a band is popular they deserve to be spat on. Danielle is NOT and has never been a 'goth' FYI, but she was and is popular with goths. Just because she wore way out clothes and makeup on stage didn't mean she was a goth. I love her and her music just as much as the afore-mentioned bands. So go pull your head in why doncha?

  • Firstly, ignore the music press-the only thing worse than the pseudo-intellectuals Stateside are the flouncy, snide powder puffs on the other side of the Atlantic. I'd love to tenderize them all with a rusty length of re-bar. Eschew them.

Wow..20+ years since I first heard this and it still knocks me out. It was really quite a commercial outing for Dax-it should have made her a star. But DD seems repelled by the stardom that she nonetheless seems to crave. A very enigmatic performer.

  • NME has redefined the concept of "severe retardation" many times over the years in a fashion only superceded by the readers of NME.

Anybody who thinks in terms of "real goths" is disqualified from making a judgment by default.

Danielle is more charming than most of those vampire wannabee halloween festers anyway.

  • Song and Vision.

  • I would do her...........

  • I saw her open for Sisters of Mercy years and years ago....great show.

  • wait... when was this???

  • when did she open for the sisters of mercy?

  • It was in either late 1990 or early 91. She opened for The Sisters on their Vision Thing tour, at The Warfield in San Francisco. Great show.

  • I got to support wenchtits with her humorous comment regarding the goth contest ha. Tbh, noone asks to be lumped in terms like that and neither did dax. I listen to alot of deathrock and gothic rock; i don't really care what you call them, but if you want to group them that way its fine that is just how my taste happened to turn out. And I like dax too, and I never cared to call her anything because it doesn't really matter. Hopefully people will grow out of this shit.

  • sorry dnythyp replied to the wrong comment :) meant for those below you.

  • well at least they have david cook who is so boring. and i have danielle period....

  • thick troll

  • And people would rather have Britney Spears? I totally think I'm gonna throw up!

Mistress Dax is beyond fabulous! I wouldn't exactly call her punk rock (punk rock as a genre had died out long before the eighties even began), but she is definitely iconoclastic. True artists challenge our assumptions, rather than make money off of enabling our lack of imagination. We need more of the Spirit of Dax and less of the Sloth of Spears.

  • So very true, but it'll never happen, I'm afraid. Sloth seems to sell more...

  • It's all about the lowest common denominator. When people are offered a choice of whether to challenge their minds or not, most people would rather not. As long as there ARE people who appreciate artists like Dax, there's hope for the world. The cave men who left a record of their having been on this earth were the ones who dared to use their imaginations.

  • Blimey, so I'm NOT the only one who remembers this song then?

    Very punk rock!

  • I so love Youtube! The fact that you can flick though your CDs and go "I'd like to look at the video clip" and there it is. Thanks for posting it!

  • it is glam rock, and i love it

  • Spoken word performances and still the occassional but very rare gigs, check out her Myspace page .. Dark Adapted Eye and Blast the Human Flower have just been reisssued and are available through amazon.

  • Does anybody know what she is doing now?

    She was always lovely.

  • interior design as far as i know

  • The poor soul will be nearly 50 I am sure

  • I hate to report reading, at least one year ago, that she had fallen ill. There were not details given. It might have been a myspace page where I read this. I don't want to report mis-information, and regardless, hope she is happy and doing well at whatever strikes her fancy.

  • OK, my curiosity got to me, so I checked out myspace, and there hasn't been much update on her health, specifically, in a while from the space "caretaker", but it did not she was on the mend as of last year. Wikipedia states she has been ill as of this year - no details. Meanwhile, "Dark Adapted Eye" and "Blast the Human Flower" are now available as remasters. I again repeat that I hope Danielle is well along in her recovery for whatever illness she had.

  • I do hope she recovers from what ever she has, when I was a teenager I had a real crush in her and then I saw 'Company of Wolves' and it kind of made me realise what women were about.

  • she aint wellat the minute

  • I was hoping she'd be well on-the-mend by now.

  • I love her early stuff, and this middle-era as well. Great memories. Meanwhile, I remember reading she'd been quite ill last year, as I recall. I certainly hope she's on the mend. Also, if she ever decides to go back into music, I'd be so psyched!

  • Danielle was great! I used to love her in the 80's and early 90's. So gorgeous and different! I think that is why she was not a bigger success. She dabbled in so many different kinds of music that I think that it did not appeal to most people. Also, some of her stuff was kinda off the wall. But that's cool because it is different. I loved her second album. It was a little more mainstream, but what great songs! Her songs still give me a chill when I reminisce about those days long ago. GREAT!!

  • Ditto to all above - she was ahead of her time like most post modern 80's stuff. People like DD would have eaten Britt. Spears for lunch

  • Thanks for your response! I totally agree with you about Spears! What do people see in these performers nowadays!!?? I miss the past!!!

  • took me back sent a cold shiver down my spine' and my mates used to say who the fuck is danielle dax.well that was dd just as i remember her back then. fantastic.anyone know wot shes doin now.

  • Totally droped my jaw when i accidentally found this checking "old Goth Bands" on wiki, made me stand up and dance like i did when it came out and got played at the club. Embarress my teen girls supreemly. I forgot that i forgot this song, thaaaaaaaaanx for reminding me.

  • Danielle should have been massive, as big as T.Rex, a female Bolan .. a true star.

  • thats style <33

  • Amazing!, there is something fresh & euphoric about this - which you don't seem to get in music anymore. Everybody seems supremely self conscious, boring and sane. Where have all the innovative nutters gone?

  • AMEN

  • I used to love this song! Yay, I finally found it :D

  • Bad Ass Classic!

  • Innovative, provocative, super sexy. Simply out of this world.

  • Let's see; plays several instruments, writes her own stuff, cocky smartass attitude, looks like Bridgette Bardot, sings like Deborah Harry only way better... Sorry love, can't sell that until the early 2000s.(Incidentally, she really reminds me of Liz Hurley in 'Austin Powers' here. In a very good way).
