He had turned a 5% deficit into a 6% surplus by cutting social spending. A few days after this video was made he was hung upside down. I think those calling for austerity programs and dramatic decreases in social spending would do well to ponder his example.
I don't have a problem with social spending for people in need. However, that being said, I am against giving money to people who refuse to get off their lazy asses and work. I grew up in an era where there was no such thing as welfare. Peanut Butter and Spam were the menu. To say that people wiil hang other people because they are trying to be responsible citizens is a stretch. You sound like you know what you are talking about. I don't know much about Romania and I don't mean to be dis-respectful. I am only basing my opinion on what people that have lived under communism have told me. They all tell me how brutal and terrible it is. Personally, I have no personal knowledge but it seems that every nation that lives under communism or socialism has a dictator as the leader and that can't be good. There are so many other better forms of government than communism.

@5papa actually, this video was taken a few weeks after Ceausescu's austerity program was successful in eliminating Romania's external debt. He had turned a 5% deficit into a 6% surplus by cutting social spending. A few days after this video was made he was hung upside down. I think those calling for austerity programs and dramatic decreases in social spending would do well to ponder his example.

I don't have a problem with social spending for people in need. However, that being said, I am against giving money to people who refuse to get off their lazy asses and work. I grew up in an era where there was no such thing as welfare. Peanut Butter and Spam were the menu. To say that people wiil hang other people because they are trying to be responsible citizens is a stretch. Ceausecu was nothing more than a communist puppet dictator who the people hated and they showed it.

If the factories were doing so well they could have been kept and be proftiable for "the capitalist pigs". The communist progress is an illusion, just look at North Korea it has large roads but no cars, factories but no production.When it comes crashing down it will be like todays Eastern Europe but much much worse!
