Great idea but, changes the core meaning of the poem by misrepresenting its symbols. The shell is a sea-shell not a snail: snails don't sing and shells famously 'sound like the sea'. milly finds a starfish but imagines it to be an actual fallen star as in her nurery rhymes (not the sun!). may's discovery is the most profound and she alone comes 'home'. The poem's a metaphor exploring the femine mystique.
