Her singing was very good, but I didn't like her acting much, her gestures didn't look like a doll at all, she needs to be way more stiff to play a doll.
she sounds like Natalie Dessay here and lokks a bit the same and acting is somehow similar - very fresh. a very good singer by the way, sang soundtrack for farinelli movie
ONTOLOGIX -- Sir I agree with you that there are many quality sopranos on continental europe who will probably never be " discovered " such as er and Adriana Kohútková and Jana Sibera. There is really oversuply of talent -- and of course if such talent was combined with the luscious breasty body dancing to that crappy music on you page then there would be a star indeed
Certainly a good performance and above average, but anything but perfect. Her coloratura technique is superb, but her voice turns metallic and even shrill when she rises to high notes.
Similarly good arias of Olympia can be heard in many small theatres in continental Europe.
"reviveramesh" should note that the composer ws called "Jacques Offenbach", while the poet and protagonist of this opera was called "E.T.A. Hoffmann", both born in Germany.
she makes the notes very dark by not opening her mouth well enough... though the notes are right on. The costumes...well, don't like this setting but still pleasant to listen to. :)
So enjoyable. Perfect. I loved it. Lets spend some time thanking jacques Hoffman as well as opposed to just commenting in Eva and the production and her "dollness"
Her vocal gymnastics are beautiful...how she changes from note to note is clear and precise...although her trills could sound a tad better, it was beautiful. Her staccatto...perfect! Overall I love it!
Not quite. Niklaus has heard about rumours that Olympia has never lived and tells Hoffmann so. In almost all productions she acts like a doll. Exceptions: Kassel 2007 and Regensburg 2007, where she only acts as a doll when Hoffmann does not wear his pink spectacles. Also in the 2008 production at Luzern/CH she is mostly not a doll (by the way, Sumi Kittelberger´s Olympia there was the best Olympia I have ever seen, both as a singer and as an actress).
The production and the recording look pretty uninspired and it's a pity such a wonderful singer should be submitted to a mediocre production. The orchestra sounds good though.
OMG. 0:31, she sooounds like a FLUTE!

Gosh, this is beautiful, and she makes it look so easy (it's not; I've tried it). :) I could listen to this all day.

She is singing nice but why doesn't she act like a doll or a robot?
evaeke 4 years ago
my guess is the director told her not to.

well... according to the original story by hoffman she is supposed to act human. nobody is supposed to know she is a doll.

Malas Godlewska is singing with charm, comfort and precision, I am so impressed. One of the best performed Olympia I witness. Bravo!!!
