to me, this fight scene follows the principle of "the art of war", if one can anticipate the other 's moves, both strengths and weaknesses, the fight is already finish before their second fight had started...
I feel that this movie is far superior to crouching tiger hidden dragon. I've watched hero over and over again, but I just recently watched CTHD recently for the first time. It's quite horrible, well except for some of the fighting scenes which were quite enjoyable. But the characters were bad, the accents were odd, and some of the backgrounds look really fake. However it seems to me CTHD has received many positive reviews and even 4 Oscars which Hero didn't had any. I don't get it.
@ronin6401 nonsense,,, zhang yimou is man of integrity,,, he already long potrayed bad side of china,,, why not sometimes try new genre?? more beautiful and entertaining?? hell,, so many hollywood film is fucking propaganda as well,,,
Quite possibly one of the most overrated martial arts films of all time. It's nothing more than pro-red Chinese imperialist propoganda. Point 1: In order to bring peace to the land as he defines it, the emperor kills everyone who doesn't agree with his own world view. Point 2: The theme of "our land" is defeated by the film's own storyline as it wasn't really "their land" until they stole it from and murdered the people who were already living on "their land."
@ronin6401 You igrnorant punk. Emperor Chin Shi Huang Di was one of the rulers of the 7 kingdoms and united China. True, he was brutal, and his elixars made him insane and shortened his life, but the man brought unity to a civilization more advanced and powerful than ROME :D Shortly after his death the Han Dynasty was able to rise. He even had the great wall commissioned which was instrumental in stopping the Hun ultimately. All the knowledge that was gathered=the ends justifed the means.
@wiggalama Funny you mention knowledge because Chin made a special effort to annihilate the teachings of confucianism because they were a threat to his rule (specifically how a ruler's worth should be measured by his virtue not his power). And the ends justify the mean? Well why don't you tell that to Tibet. And as for Rome, well Roman culture remained stable and constant for hundreds of years while China's rule and culture changed hands faster than your mother at an office party.
@ronin6401 Yes, in his later years, but that was because there where multiple schools of thought that where dividing the educational standards for becoming administrators :D And a ruler's worth is about efficiency, not necessarily power and damn sure not about "virtue". Tibet was an empire and warred on the outskirts of China for centuries, and now the Han Chinese outnumber the TIbetans, thus there land. Rome stable? Remember Commudus same time as Han Dy. Fall, Rome had hella civil wars.
@wiggalama Virtue is the path to efficiency, but since you're the type to defend this film and not see it for what it is I don't suppose that's a concept you can understand. And I was speaking about Tibet today and how China is doing to it what the locat frat house does to your sister every saturday night.
@ronin6401 I agree, but the virtue I was refering to that was flawed was partially Confuscious for he believed mankind to be naturally good like Socrates, and partially by interpretation of his works. Real virtue is efficiency for the greater prosperity and happiness of your family, but the first Emperor's mother betrayed him even, and his own people where ungrateful due to propoganda, yet regardless the ends justified the means. Tibet is better off as part of China in the long run.
This movie replaced Gods and Generals as my all time favorite movie. I reccomend it to anyone. If someone asked a decade from now, Have you seen Hero? You may not remember the story, but you will never forget how this movie looked and how artfully orchestrated it was. A must for absolutely anyone.
this is one of the best movies that I have watched. Especially the music, martial artists, picturization and above all the make believe flying scenes. I just luv it :)
good movie but i remember seeing this on the movie release date and i was confused throughout the whole story too many flash backs lol but its worth a purchase woot jet li
brillant fight i remember whn ths film was due i was so exited donnie and jet to fight what a prospect sky was easily the better fighter it was all attacks from him jet could only defend
this is once of my favorite fighting scene. i, escially like the ending of the fight. it seemed as jet le pocked his aponant with the sword case and used his sword to cut of the spear (from that his aponant dies). as if the director tried to tell us that jet le didn't kill all those rabbles but it was only a story existed in his head.
awesome fighting but the noise effects were aggrivating... 4.38-4.42, 6.48-6.51 wierd noise like HAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAAAAAAAHHH! kind of aggrivating
Apparently this was the most anticipated martial arts scene in years because it once again pitted Jet Li against Donnie Yen. And so glad you didn't put garbage music to this. Tam Dum is an awsome composer and his work is brilliant!
Hero is the most beautiful film from a foreign country that I'd ever seen. I still thuroughly enjoy it today. The action is flowing and flawless and the story is very well paced and gripping. Plus the ORIGINAL music was incredible; beautiful and flowing like the rest of the film. This video, although a mere cut from one of the best scenes in the movie, respects that.
did you know that donnie yen also played in blde 2 with wesley snipes he played a vampire named priest although i think they should have gave him more fighting scenes cause he was the best fighter in that movie i think
i think this was the best fighting scene of the movie cause it really showed both of their fighting skills the other fighting scenes are not as long & have alot of that tratitional chinese flying around as you fight scenes that to me are kind of extreme but as the director zhang yimou knows you can't make a major martial arts epic film in china with out honoring the tradition of the old martial films
why were they floating?? LOL
