  • 12 people get tapped out all day

  • At 3:18, isn't there a danger of getting d'arced?

  • @pnelson101291 I don't think he's at risk from a darce choke here as marcia is maintaining his underhook with the left arm which prevents a move to the darce but I think more importantly prevents his opponent getting his back.

  • thank you ! Yesterday I tried this escape against a guy 20 kg more than me and it worked ...he was very surprised :) and me too ! Very effective if well done

  • every second of this was informative, i freaking love marcelo

  • underhooks, underhooks...

  • the guy on top is doing absolutely nothing with that position... the whole point of having the left arm under the head/neck is to keep it off the mat and prevent a bridge...

  • can this still work if the guy on top has his left leg extended?

  • He's such a cool dude too. I met him in jersey when he coached one of his guys against me. Even though I beat his guy to make it to the finals, he still congratulated me and took time to take pictures with me as well. Cool dude!

  • Marcelo is the shit

  • like a grappling moment of swan lake

  • This video changed my grappling game immensely (back when I saw it last year). I don't know why, but this bridge tip just opened up new techniques for me to use out of the escape.

    Thank you Marcelo Garcia

  • @darklord220 Me too, know I just checked I was making 2 little mistakes to escape from side control.

  • Yeah I agree @ 3:08 what stops the person on the top from mounting, you leave that area completely exposed for a mount.

  • i hope you're joking

  • @yeoldejosephp um no maybe you missed it but you can still mount someone in that position i've done it and i've had it done to me.

  • If done properly, the explosive movement will result in the absence of the ability to mount. Because you are moving so powerfully and quickly the best that can happen is guard.

It's a bump plus a twist, so you lose your balance and weight is on the top man's far leg making it easy to get a single. It also makes it hard to maneuver, leaving you a leg (with your hands posting or grabbing and your far leg taking our weight)

There is a counter to everything, but it would be hard if done right.

  • @GoldenRuffian guess it all depends upon how much energy you have then. I can see that happening maybe at the start of a fight but if you are 5 or 10 plus minutes into it might be a diff story.

  • ..you could say that about any technique. Now you're just talking about conditioning.

  • what stops ur opponent from mounting or taking back here

  • rofly marcelo is halarious

  • But , correct me if im wrong ,but thats not a roper sidemount. The opponent butt is way too high and his left elbow should be in the elbow notch of m. garcias neck. guy on top should have his rt knee to m.garcias rt hip (still chest-to-chest) and lt knee fully extended with his toes only touching mat so that to apply the most pressure to bottom opponent.....

  • You can still be really tight with your knees in by tucking your head-side knee under the shoulder. Also by putting your shoulder on their neck/face instead of the elbow.

Remember there are a number of ways to play side-mount and all are viable.

  • That's a basic escape, most jiu-jitsu guys can't pull on a good wrestler

  • @figthersdreams Like any technique you need to need to experiment and drill it against increasingly skilled opponents until it becomes a weapon. This is what Garcia does, and why he is not "most jiu jitsu guys". But I would contend that where this tactic most often fails is in a sloppy or slow transition to leg control. Once this has been mastered, the strength or skill of the wrestler is unimportant until he attempts his transition from the escape- during which he is inherently disadvantaged.

  • Marcelo is the best.

Look for my flying submissions videos.

  • i always get mounted doing this.

  • this move great....IF the guy top guy is doing side control correctly. if he is doing correctly you will not be able to get that left hand under.

this technique had NO use when strikes are involved.

  • Ahhh yes, the all knowing cockbreath.

  • I'm sorry everyone for that comment. I was trying to be funny at the time. I wrestle too and it just looked funny for some reason.

  • Comment removed

  • Its called wrestling dumbass.

  • really?

  • Don't try and act like a smartass you child.

  • fucking greeks for ya hate the cunts

  • How ironic, considering that Greeks pretty much invented wrestling...

  • actually...it was the Romans....they also invented aquaducts and orgies. Greeks invented women with beards, sideburns and hairy chests.. You should read more History.

  • Who is this man...where does he come from... how does he do it? Celo is a beast its doesnt even make any sense how good he is!

  • Marcelo is a freaking magician.

  • marcelo is competition proven. Anyone doubting his technique should do more research.

  • ei dude use armbar at the top guy!!

  • excelente

  • that's really good. the side mount escapes i've been using are from the Cutting Edge Ground Fighting DVD, Police Defensive Tactics by lockdown tactics. Theyre a bit different (i think possibly because they're designed for officers wearing a batbelt with tools like firearm, oc, taser, cuffs, extra mags, asp etc.. but this is really cool and probably would work too

  • side mount escapes like these are much better for guys with long legs regaining gaurd is very hard for me cause im 6'4 with real long legs so these escapes work great

    marcello is king.

  • i gonna try this shit at training next time!!:D hope it works !

  • me 2 :D

  • I am.... enlightened.

  • Great teaching technique. This is whats called invisible jiujitsu. The subtle moves that make the movement so much easier and effective.

  • |That's a cool move. I take judo and I like to mix it up sometimes between judo and jiu jitsu.

  • FUCKKKKKKKKK!!!

Is there any position this guy CAN'T get your back from? He's a fucking magician. An evil genius, I think he goes black Brazilian magic to learn these things.

  • LOL

  • You also can't be too hesitant to go for a single leg after the bridge. Your opponent has an opportunity to take the back.

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

  • This pushing away to create space doesn't work at all.I made fool of myself trying that.Everything else works but not pushing away 108 kilo guy like that. The guy will hold you close in control. But if you bridge to create space then slide your arm quickly then you can do it.Then perform rest of the techniques as shown.

  • are you pushing on his neck/throat? He makes a point of saying that you have to push on his throat. Otherwise, of course, his position is much stronger than yours. If you push on his throat, then the harder he clasps onto you, the harder the pressure is on his throat.

  • The way Ze Marcello teaches you how to keep side control, you will not be able to perform this technique as shown.I am sorry.

  • That may be true but you are representing a narrow understanding of side control. There are multiple ways an opponent can hold you (head control, hip control, breaking the hips, etc.) and each method leaves opportunities to escape. This method works for head control. You have to have multiple well timed escapes to be successful. This move requires the pummel grip, which anyone who's smart would fight, but that doesn't mean they aren't leaving other holes by fighting it (hip recomposure)

  • You do know this is only a sample clip from only one of his dvd sets right?? Marcelo always has an answer for everthing. Did you know that he has four instructional dvd sets with 6 dvds each? In series 4 he has 4 dvds just on the omoplata. Marcelo Garcia is considered by many to be the best grappler ever. I can assure you he has a very broad understanding of side control. Get some of his dvds and check it out. It will blow your mind.

  • your right maybe you should teach marcelo

  • maybe if you know so much you shouldn't be learning from you tube. Many techniques shown on the net doesn't work in real fights, you should know that.

  • if thats the case why did u come on youtube, try this technique and in ur own words make a fool of yourself? if techniques on the net dont work why did you even try it? dickwad

  • its not like Marcelo has proven any techniques in a "real" fight. Who would believe this guy?? Let him first win a few tournaments and become famouse then people will know who he is... oh wait he did that already. He proved himself, his techniques.. STFU

  • Or you could listen to the video and realise that he says exactly what I said, I just elaborated on why it might work...then you should eat a bag of dicks. Douchebag.

  • "If I try to bridge the normal way, like you people usually do it, it's going to be weak as hell."

    awesome

  • @HomedudePedroski That's not really what he said but that's ok!

  • Sometimes I bring my far hand under neath his body too in order to help push him over me when I bridge.

  • And now, Deep Thoughts by Marcelo Garcia:

"If I try to bridge the normal way, like you people usually do it, it's going to be weak as hell." lmao.

  • stfu marcelo garcia is the king of the ground

  • i agree, he is. but that doesn't mean i can't find humor in something he says.

  • not really he still is 0-2 versus Terere! an original Alliance fighter who then left with Leo and Rodrigo "Comprido" and Ricardo. Terere beat Marcelo in a no gi competition on points and then in 2004 submitted him via triangle in the Worlds for the championship

  • I correct this error it was the 2003 championship. Terere real name is Fernando Augusto

  • everyone knows alistair overeem has the best jiu-jitsu ever

  • WAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH

  • alistair really showed NOG in the rings tournament. thats how nog learned jiu jitsu

  • damm right. hahahaha

  • That's not his exact words those are the words of the translator.

  • Wow, been doing jiu jitsu for a few years and this bridge technique now helps my game a lot. Thanks a lot for posting this. Marcelo is the man!!

  • CirrusFalcon it's not Marcelo that's talking but the translator....
