Absolutley love the man very rare are we blessed with someone of such great talent, wish I had a voice like that, I try to sing his songs but somehow I just dont get it done!
I grew up in the 50's and 60's, so my dad and mom were always watching Lawrence Welk, Jackie Gleason show, Mitch Miller, so I listened to all of the old standards. My dad loved it all, but Jim Reeves was always his favorite, and any time I wish to go down memory lane I just youi tube Jim for my dad.
I agree completely with Tarquin45. Jim Reeves was truly unique. Beautiful voice. A perfectionist. He sang the songs how they were meant to be sung. I've been a fan of his music for over 40 years. The original versions sound like they were recorded yesterday. I wish the uninitiated moneymakers would leave well alone. Even the hashed up "Duet Album" with Patsy Cline was wrong. An insult to both. R.I.P Mr Reeves. Your music will live forever.
It's only my opinion, but the original was better and had no need to be messed about with. Another track the greedy record company fiddled with was Jim's version of 'Moonlight And Roses.'
I think the guy who did Jim's original arrangement on his 'Touch Of Vevet' must have been mightily miffed when he heard the new one.
I haven't looked at all 207 comments, but there seems to be some criticism of the background music for this song (although I love it)- this is the original 1962 version of the song. Unlike many of Jim's posthumous "overdubbed" recordings, the background music for the 1973 version released as a single (which was a top 10 hit) was actually more "country" sounding than this version. Regardless of the background music, Jim Reeves had the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.
Listen to Al Terry - singer/composer/ performer. Jim Reeves had one of the most beautiful voices God gave to any living being. But listen to Al Terry and read the bio by Jim Reeve's widow. Jim Reeves was no doubt an all-time great singer and will always be one of the greatest singers I ever heard ---- but listen to Al Terry and the influence he had on this great singer .... Listen to "Good Deal Lucile" and other songs and you will only love and admire Jim Reeves even more than you do today. J
@tarquin45 You have something here. I've got the other_ arraangement on CD, and this is way better. It happens--Hank Williams' song "Calling You," sounds way better on the "Rare Demos," album than on the "Original Singles Collection."
HI,I'LL DEFER MY COMMENT{S} TO THE 197 ALREADY POSTED HERE!..............I'M SPEECHLESS. THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES AND THE FUN,TOM D. BRICK,NJ. {AT THE SHORE}.
Jim Reeves has uniqe voice, smooth. The only other great singer who has similar extraordinary voice was Ricky Nelson. Two great artists who both died so early.
Notice the use of meter, harmony, and a genuine great voice, wow, all things great vocal music should contain...oh yeah, you can actually understand the lyrics! Still alive though he physically died young!
During the golden age of country there were so many really great singers both male and female. It's hard to make a list and chose who's 1st, 2nd and so on. But Jim
had a special something that touches you in a very special way. With his voice and
the music it's as though he's telling you a story and you feel that you have to listen to the very end. I've been a devoted fan of Jim's for over 50 years and he never grows old. He's special a one of a kind.
EVERY time I hear his voice, I melt. Such depth and tone, that it makes my heart cry, just thinking of why someone would say those words. Had it happen to me, and the pain is unreal, but, if "I'm That Easy To Forget", then so be it.
This song is a classic, love it and it strikes a cord with me. was on this dating site (I am early 20s dont judge me) and got to know this chick and exchanged conversation and things were going great and one day she was like "I am kinda chatting with another, and its kinda not serious but kinda is, and I wanna see how things work out between me and him" wanted to pick up something and throw it but was listening to this song half hour before so was like whatever, dont care.
Your Not going to find this kind of Music coming from Nashville Today. Worse than the orchestration was losing Jim so soon. I'll take this over Modern Country anytime.
This version is the best with the accompanying music that matches the quality of that great voice. Richness and fullness and feeling that defy description!! Just think how large and great a body of work he would have had he lived until today.
@Buttermilk3696 Jim was a perfectionist and would stay in the studio for hours sometimes to make a song that was three minutes long. He always insisted upon the best backing music and vocalist( I.e. the Anita Kerr singers). As it is, he recorded hundreds of songs but, you are right, just imagine how great a collection had he lived longer.
As a child and then a teen, I remember my mother sitting in the living room, and Jim would come on the radio, My dad would come in and scoop her up and dance together all over the house..I was so magical..I dont see that kind of dancing alive anymore...I can say I have the memory and have them dancing on my wedding tape..We played Jims songs for them to dance..just them..I was married in 1985, Mom passed away 5 years later..I bet shes dancing now with Elvis and ALL the great Singers!!
I was at the age of 17 or so that I stumbled upon a tape player of my father and there was nothing but all were Jim Reeves' songs. That was around 1967 and since then, besides Elvis, Jim Reeves was then the top and favourite singer of mine. Now that I am 61, and Am I That Easy To Forget Jim Reeves? Nay...till now his songs still live in my heart.. No spoken words could I describe about majority of his beautiful songs and the way he sang them. May God Bless His Soul. Ameen.
I must agree about 'An Old Christmas Card.' What a wonderful performance and such a great Christmas song that should really be a standard. Marty Robbins is my favourite singer, but Jim has always been a very close second to me.
I seen him in the 60s in madison wis he told a story about pocket pool I didnt get it so went to work the nrxt day and told the joke everyone laughed then they explained lol loved him ever since love a old christmas card ty tarquin
Oh...how I really love this song......I have my CD version but still I am so glad there are still so many guys out there who really appreciate a beautiful voice and love songs like this one from the most perfect voice of Jim Reeves.
@ApaiSai Can you tell me the name of your cd? I had this album that had this song, and several others, many years ago-and I am looking for it-I love this man! thank you. Sue
Thanks for liking JR's songs, yes the album is A Touch of Velvet and the other album is The Very Best Of Jim Reeves ( I do hope you can get it at your place coz we dont seem to have it no more at out place here ).
I have never cared much for Honky Tonk Country Music (except for some of the Hank Williams (Not JR.) stuff.. and like the current form of Country even less.I guess what I'm getting at is this is about as close to country music as I will ever get.
Orchestration can give a song a polished sound no matter what kind of music it is.Jim Reeves voice and Orchestration were a perfect match.
Jim Reeves doing Honky Tonk Country Music would be like Pavarotti doing "Gangsta rap"!
I wonder what motivates people to bring up mere incidents that were a little off colour and try to defame a man by them a man who left such a legacy of beautiful heartfelt songs that stroke the emotions and sentiments of others as Jim Reeves did. A person can still have a beautiful soul and be a wonderful person even if he shows strong dislike for some others in his life..Perhaps they deserved it?Love his voice and style of singing,RIP Jim Reeves.
how this song makes me cry a lovely mum and a drunken beating gamblng ffucking father when i was a kid and mum would put this on when he was either out or pissed up in bed so sad for me to here it but mum is now 25 years rid of that scum of a man
Got aquainted with Jim Reeves music by one of my uncles who would sit by his old phonograph and listen to this kind of music plus Floyd Cramer and what I remember as well is that look on his face. No describing the expressions on that man's face only to say the even though I was very young I knew that he had known true love in his lifetime but unfortunatly for my dear sweet uncle he never was loved in return the same as the love he had to give to those woman who never comprehended love at all
I guess after listening to Jim sing for well over 45 years now, just about the only thing left for me to say is..... I still love to hear him sing. He doesn't bore me or bother me. His melodies haunt me long after the song is over, and the lyrics he so carefully phrased have shaped a part of who I am today. I never heard him rude, crude or raunchy. He didn't have to curse or be suggestive. He just sang from his heart......to ours.
I grew up on New Years where everyone had to sing. My favourite uncle sung this and i've never forgotten it. Jim Reeves obviously takes it to a whole new level but a stunning song.
Jim Reeves is the father of the "Nashville Sound" when he added strings to his music he raised the bar for others to follow. For a singer who passed away on July 31, 1964, the fact that his recording are still selling today, tells you just how much the world loved his music and his style. You don't get in the Hall of Fame unless you are great. That he was......GREAT!
I just listened to Engelbert Humperdink singing this song and, even though he was the rage many years ago, his voice can't compare to Jim Reeves who has much more depth to his voice than Humperdink ever had. Jim Reeves is my favorite singer of all time and I especially like his version of May The Good Lord Bless and Keep You. His singing sounds so smooth and sincere in everything he does. My hat goes out to Jim Reeves.
I understand where you're coming from speedy, but the object of recording artists and recording companies is to sell as many records as they can. I think the orchestral accompaniment on this and other Reeves tracks are sumptuous. I loved a lot of old Ray Price honky tonk stuff, but if you listen to the Cam Mullins arrangement of 'Release Me, it is so much better than Ray's old 50's version in my opinion.
I wrote my comments knowing that he was flawed as we all are. There's no perfect human being. I stand by the fact that his record producer Chet Atkins and fellow country singers as well as the most famous country disc jockey were critical of him.
This 1962 album cut recording was overdubbed with more "country" sounding
orchestration in 1973 and re-released as a single, it got into the Billboard Top 10. It's one of the few posthumous Jim Reeves overdubs where I like the overdub better than the original.
I disagree with your last statement. He was not the 'gentleman' that his nickname would have you believe. The proof can be found on youtube with comments about him by Stonewall Jackson and Chet Atkins.
Don't get me wrong, I hold Jim Reeves in the highest regard as a singer, but his treatment of Marty Robbins as detailed in Ralph Emery's book 'Memories' showed him in a bad light and I don't think he was drunk then.
Best version ever in my opinion. I vividly remember the day my pickup truck blurted out the news of his plane crash; that he had departed BATESVILLE, AR enroute to Nashville. I was a private pilot and lived near Batesville Airport.
I like Carl Belew's original release in 1958 and also Skeeter Davis' cover in 1960 but (as so often) the unapproachable version was Jim Reeves' fabulous 1962 cover.
Oh my, why did he leave me for a " younger" woman? I have loved him since ....1965, yes, he came back, but, do I still want him? If I am that easy to forget: then: NO!
Both my mum and dad loved this song and Jim Reeves.I grew up listening to his music, i m a young person with and old soul.Thanyou for this wonderfull video.
What an absolutely fantastic voice. A couple of years ago, I was in RCA studios at Nashville, and they played " I won't forget you" Just the vocal track, with out any backing, and it had me in tears. Beautiful!
This was one of my dads favorite singers of all time. I remeber listening to his music in our household when i was a child. My dad just passed away last night. So i'm glad you provided this great tune for me. This music means a great deal to me right now. So thank-you, from the bottom of my heart.
you are not that easy to forget , i have been a fan all my life, the first song i remember is i love you because, the first time i heard it i was hooked .
i grew up with this lovely music it never dates with the true country music lovers it is timeless and every word can be heard unlike the junk that we hear every day at the traffic lights in the clapped out corsas and youve guessed it the lowered saxo driven by idiots that cant see over the steering wheel with the watered down brains and stupid clowns hats or oversized caps
"this song is the first link on my FB account which reminds me of a special one to whom i sent it to express my great sympathy for him when he was lovelorn. And now he's just a memory of my bygone days, that still hurts me sometimes ,,,"
Jim is very popular in Sri Lanka from early sixties. Many many people love him.His deep and cristal clear voice and the way he sings make everybody's memories alive. He sings to everybody.
The Frank Sinatra of country music. Frank has that cool, smooth, easy on your ears tone. He also has that rare quality to break you heart with the lyrics. Jim is equal to that in every way. A most amazing man, and i agree with "JimReevesFan", he is so underrated.
Other than the smooth, deep, voice of Frank Sinatra, I cant think of anyone with the crystal clear, heartbreaking tone of Jim Reeves. He died way too early. My mom loved him so much. She passed away a year ago, and I inherited her LP's. This man has a wonderful voice.
Keep the LPs. They sound sweeter than digital and will eventually become valuable collectables. If you dont have a turntable this is a good time to get one. I got one in the 90s and rediscovered my mothers LPs that she collected in the 50s and 60s and was amazed how good they sounded.
I couldn't agree with you more my friend first time I heard him sing was overseas Distand drums I was just a kid I didn't speak a word of english didn't understand what he was saying but I loved his voice and the melody all I did was remember his name. It was him and the Beatles that I wanted so desperately learn english so I could understand them.
And to this day I think that he is one of the best voices of all time.
Thank you for posting this. I have been searching for this song by Kitty Wells now for over a year. I used to have it on an album of hers. Does anyone out there know what album it was from ? Any help would be appreciated !
QUEEN OF COUNTRY MUSIC Decca DL-74197 1962 Moody River, What Am I Living For, Pick Me Up On Your Way Down, Slowly, Wooden Heart, Heart Over Mind, Everybody's Somebody's Fool, Am I That Easy To Forget, One More Time, Hello Walls, Your Old Love Letters, Fallen Star.
This is a very special deep voice, can't compare with any other voice now. I always love Jim Reeves' voice in every song, good old songs stay forever.
heard all the different versions of this song . the best by far has to be Engelbert Humperdincks. apologies to all you country fans .

I have 22 of Jim Reeves 33 1/3..some 45s and now CDs. I have always liked him.
he WAS Gentleman Jim Reeves..Ralph is not a perfect man,I don't know what he
said about himself. I agree totally with tarquin45. I lived through the 50s with Ray
Price honky tonk & liked it then..and Jim Reeves also.but I like these best. I
was upset Eddy Arnold got glory with "Make the World Go Away"Ray Price was out 7/3/63 & it was the best. Eddy was 2-3 yrs later.
I love Ray P&JimR. Chet not easy gt along with

It's rather unfortunate that many country singers became enamored of the "Mantovani" sound, Ray Price among them.

@SpeedyNeutrino43

Forget the technicalities. The voice and delivery are hard to beat. Compare today's vocalists and you will find none.

@TheEstee2
I wrote my comments knowing that he was flawed as we all are. There's no perfect human being. I stand by the fact that his record producer Chet Atkins and fellow country singers as well as the most famous country disc jockey were critical of him.
tarquin45 1 year ago
This 1962 album cut recording was overdubbed with more "country" sounding
orchestration in 1973 and re-released as a single, it got into the Billboard Top 10. It's one of the few posthumous Jim Reeves overdubs where I like the overdub better than the original.

Jim Reeves can never be forgotten - it is impossible to forget that wonderful wonderful voice of his - and a Gentleman to the hilt was Jim Reeves!!!
DeepakMenon 1 year ago 2
