the trailer is just amazing, but the real movie is not that good. MBW is pure shit, he only does art for money and fame. He should learn from bansky, he is the real artist
seriously, am I the only one to think that Mr Brainwash was a character, a calculated joke, a part of the "in your face" mockery that this documentary is to the art business?
I watched the movie... it feels like a documentary-style-made comedy. Like "This is Spinal Tap". It feels like Mr Brainwash (Thierry) is rather fictional character created by Banksy, to show the dfference between street artists and lamers who claim they're artists. Great movie!
Need to know the song in this trailer! btw Anyone know if banksy owns a shop or works in one? I went to london last summer and bought couple of his shirts and then the clerk whispered to his mate remember this one? as he was holding the shirt of the stenciled barcode cage with the panther. and no I wont tell where the shop is, just incase.
If rotten tomatoes gives it 96% I would expect it to be at least slightly decent But I still wouldn't expect too much from it as the reviewer at rotten tomatoes tend to give 96-99% ratings to some of the most boring mind numbing pieces of dog poop for movies
"Anyone who wants to win the broad masses must know the key that opens the door to their heart: propaganda tries to force a doctrine on the whole people - The whole art consists in doing this so skillfully that everyone will be convinced that the fact is real, the process necessary - But propaganda is not and cannot be the necessity in itself, since its function, like the poster, consists in attracting the attention of the crowd, and not in educating those striving for education." Adolf Hitler
I don't know how I feel about MBW.. I'm not sure he's popular because of good work.. Because it's not that great.. It's not original.. He jacked ideas from the other guys and called it his own.. Also it seems his workers created the work, he just told them what to do.. If you watch this bc you want to see a film about banksy, you will be sad, it's mostly about Terry (MBW) I enjoyed it though!
I've just seen this, What I found most interesting was actually how it showed the effect of 'hype', MBW went from being a complete nobody to the hottest thing... wtf? so the phenomenon of hype is very well documented here (even though it doesn't seem to be a documentary)...
mr brainwash is nothing but a fraud...he filmed these very talented and original artists and then he used their concepts to make art himself but hes not an artist he payed other street artist to put up his copied designs...if that isnt a fraud then idk what is
I love Bansky!!! i read an article in a portuguese magazine and i start to search him! here in Portugal a few people know him. Three weeks ago i went to london and i saw a few things form him. I asked people information about him, and everybody knows him. If Bansky was portuguese nobody gives a shit.
@triplemouf I'm not saying youre right or wrong.. But that was a CLEAR message to the audience at the end of the film. And at the same time mr. brainwash gives his name the ultimate meaning.
Yes wonderful that art takes to the streets and pushes against structured authority BUT, the art gets taken over by idiots with no talent who just spray for the sake of defacing and ruination. It is called vandalism and nobody likes it. Why is it always that anything good is always used in its opposite for bad? Little too much like karma for me and little too spiritual for this vid. Yet anyone who understands what I'm talking about is already intelligent enough to get it.....
I' have to say MBW is Banksy's most devious work of art. Banksy is so great in reality satire and I guess the Professor Banksynstein created his own nightmare, Mr. Brainwash. It backfired. Hope general public can understand that MBW does is in fact art speculation. This documentary is for history of art like Einsteins theory of relativity is for physics. It shows that even the most open minded have a stomach regarding the acceptance of art. MBW is one really bad yet inteligent joke.
An interesting detail caught my eyes. When Thierry is in Paris with some of Invader's friend sand they are sitting in some sort of a pub (at about the 8th or the 9th minute), the 'Andre the Giant has a Posse' sticker is on the table! It is just a flash but check it out, really interesting!;)
The first half of this movie is pretty interesting, but the trailer is completly misleading. The last half is just the documentarymaker having an ego trip.
just watched it a couple of nights ago, and while I would've loved more stuff about Banksy & the other street artists, it was a great movie nonetheless. That French guy has some serious manic OCD issues!
The film makes some interesting comments about the shallowness of society and how easily fooled people are by hype over substance & just what is art. But as Banksy ex-publicist says, "The joke's on...the joke's on...I don't know who the joke's on. Is there a joke at all?"
Ur the WINNER in my book MR.Brain Wash...and thanks for the posters and autograph u gave me..Its me Valintino ,i was there when u were finishing the "Hooded Oscar''...If u ever need any help booming get at me .... They cann't stop
@TheRaffleTube if you haven't seen inside job...how could you judge inside job as not worthy of the reward. i too wanted banksy to win but c'mon son get a grip.
@Kalilalex actually you don't. 'man on wire' won a few years ago and it was about a man walking from one skyscraper to another....one a wire - where is the political dimension in that? banksy's film was my pick but at least give the winner credit instead of being a bitter fanboy
Mr.Brainwash he is a real Mr.Brainwash ...he can wash many brains to buy his works..lol..his artworks are suck! but the great thing he has done is a criticizing art!!!
I think it's hilarious all those foofy, self thinking art intellectuals that think their better than everyone else, got scammed out of over a million dollars. hahahaha! All because that Terri dude received a couple good references. It's kind of like those movies were the nerd tells the popular chick or dude to tell everyone how cool they are and then everyone goes along with it. I was bummed in the end, because I think Terri F'd over everyone who helped him. I doubt anyone saw a dime.
Terry(Mr. Brainwash) kind of irritated me. he has basically no technical ability in art yet now he calls himself an artist. you cant even say he has a creative mind because he just takes his ideas out of books and then tells an artist who actually has talent what he wants. most great artist have/had assistance which is perfectly fine but they also had incredible creative minds and technical ability. Mr. Brainwash only really did one thing. He spattered spray paint onto someone elses masterpiece.
first i thot this looks like a shity documetary/ film but it was funny and relly intresting i relly recomend this film! hahaha mr brainwash damn that guy is awsome!
I liked the beginning and a couple of other scenes but that whole Mr. Brainwash shit got pretty boring I think the best part of the whole movie is when the two cops try to grab that guy and he scales that wall ...But then again when I watched it a 2nd time it looks staged ...Then your like cool, another fake movie... If I want to watch all that fake shit I would just watch MTV or something? and if you didn't know better and you watched this you would of thought he invented Graff?
Duchamp kind of did this the same way....he took something simplea urinal in "The Fountain"...and took a picture of it and said it was art. Anything is art,,,,But this documentary made me think about this concept a lot more.....wish i knew what was real and what was fake in this movie.
@WritingLullabies Yes, but Duchamp's piece was an intentionally cynical statement about how art becomes commerce and vise verse whereas Mr Brainwash's pieces were/are literally commerce. He makes no bones about his process or even his complete lack of technical skills and talent. Some reviewers think that the film is a hoax, at least the second half of it. I had that feeling while I was watching it but I searched online and found that Mr Brainwash did, indeed, have a enormous show in 2008
Damn, this documentary was genius! Never had heard of this Banksy guy until now and I have to say he's just incredible! I feel the need to watch it again because it made me think too hard after it was over. I just had my mouth open and coudn't believe the 180 turn the movie ended up having...Loved Banksy's art...never had seen it before...and MBW's stuff is really from what he learned from those guys...but is he an artist..? I really don't know how to answer that. Am I an artist? Are you?
@dieRubikDIE It's crazy because a person doesn't change, right?...at least not THAT much....In the beginning of the documentary Thierry himself said he opened a store in LA...and that he sold some shirts saying they were designer shirts to get more money for them...a lot more. He did the same with his art....selling those paintings by the bulk and making a bunch of money out of them even if he didn't put his heart and soul into them. Mr. Brain Wash is the perfect name for him.
The movie was so amazing!!! The french guy was pretty annoying, but you have to give him credit for turning proverbial shit into gold...and then makes millions off of it. That takes talent, even if it's not artistic talent.
The second-greatest part was probably the Disneyland bit. I mean, that rat had to mean something more to them than it did to Banksy or the french guy, because security doesn't have the right to hold, or question anybody, and no one calls the FBI for vandalism. Fantastic.
MBW is a douche, he trampled all the meaning behind art... his little "workshop" was pathetic... if its manufactured it isn't art... he can go stick his camera up his ass...
@BlenderSalad But at the same time....he is putting up pop culture on the walls.....and isn't that what the media is all about...manufactured "art"? He probably didn't think that through......but still...
@BlenderSalad Then you must hate all modern art post 1960. Almost all of Warhol's later art was mass produced. He got to the point where he simply direct hired artists to produce his ideas (ala Mr Brainwash). Art has always been about commerce and big business and this film in it's own way is making a statement about that. Most buyers are not artists. They make purchases based on hype and name only, which is why many talented artists die/died in obscurity.
Awesome trailer, great movie, amazing artist.

WritingLullabies 1 year ago

Are you?

so why did all the artist not like mbw at the end?

Banksy's a sell out, but his art is good, if only he didn't build his image on anti-capitalistic views, he would be less self contradictory.

Before I watched this movie, I didn't know anything about street art. And now, all I've learned is that I kinda hate Thierry Guetta.
dieRubikDIE 1 year ago 2
@dieRubikDIE It's crazy because a person doesn't change, right?...at least not THAT much....In the beginning of the documentary Thierry himself said he opened a store in LA...and that he sold some shirts saying they were designer shirts to get more money for them...a lot more. He did the same with his art....selling those paintings by the bulk and making a bunch of money out of them even if he didn't put his heart and soul into them. Mr. Brain Wash is the perfect name for him.

It got an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary! :D

Fantastic.

How can Mr BW have video of a modern Beck (the musician) trying on clothes in the 90s?

MBW is a douche, he trampled all the meaning behind art... his little "workshop" was pathetic... if its manufactured it isn't art... he can go stick his camera up his ass...
BlenderSalad 1 year ago
@BlenderSalad But at the same time....he is putting up pop culture on the walls.....and isn't that what the media is all about...manufactured "art"? He probably didn't think that through......but still...
WritingLullabies 1 year ago
@BlenderSalad Then you must hate all modern art post 1960. Almost all of Warhol's later art was mass produced. He got to the point where he simply direct hired artists to produce his ideas (ala Mr Brainwash). Art has always been about commerce and big business and this film in it's own way is making a statement about that. Most buyers are not artists. They make purchases based on hype and name only, which is why many talented artists die/died in obscurity.

how MBW sell those generic painting for like $30,000! was his art show real?
