@reamz22 I am glad you liked the music. My friend who wrote and performed the music passed away last November. His channel name is jamwarmusic and is still up. You can listen to several of his songs there.
Once you have the mold made, you basically repeat the whole process to make a dupe of the original, correct? Do you re-wax the mold with 5 layers every time you make a new part?
I'm considering making a CF tank shield for my motorcycle, I just don't want to cause any permanent damage to the tank when making the mold, and due to the bulky nature of the tank, can't really make a 'base' for the mold like you were able to do.
@Buckley128 Search YouTube for "How To Fiberglass - Two Part Mold Construction - #1 Flanging" and watch that video. That is a better example of how a motorcycle tank might be done.
Basically yes, making a part is just the same process. Everything that was done to the original part in order to make the mold, should be done to the mold in order to make a new part. To be safe, I wax heavily for the first 3 to 5 parts. After that the mold is "seasoned" & not as much wax will be needed. My opinion.
If ur still making molds can u email me, I would love to get a price on what you would charge me to cast a mold of something for me. defiantaudio@Comcast.net thanks
@MamoTheta It's no bother man. That is an air body saw. It hooks to an air compressor and they work really well with sharp blades. I have 2 ingersoll rand ones and a Blue Point but honestly, the cheap ones from Harbor Freight are just as good and cost a lot less.
Thank you for the props jboritzki....... Good Job Too!..... ill have to let you in on a few secrets to make jobs like this one with 3 or 4 fewer steps...... again, still a great job..... some people are just naturals in using hand tools and some lose fingers..... I can see your a hands on man...or No Sissy.......heh heh..... Ill be posting a few new vids soon....thanks again for the props at the start of your video
@GasserGlass Thanks man. It was your videos that got me started in this so I had to mention ya. I must have watched your videos 100 times each trying to learn. I'd love any advice or help you could offer. I'm always interested in improving and getting better. I'll keep looking for your new videos.
Wow man, awesome vid! If I were even remotely talented with my hands I'd def try this. I'd like to make some kind of hood scoop concoction for my truck. Nice work man, Id like to see who all puts your vid to work and what they came up with... would be pretty cool.
@FireArmsResQ I do make a hood scoop that's a universal non functional deal. I have a lot fo projects I want to start but never seem to find enough time. Of course, if I was pretty sure there was a big market for something I'd probably find the time.
@neacie71 This is a wet layup and one way of doing it. Probably the most common way of doing it. Kind of a generic video but it gives you the gist I think.
Jboritki... Loved the second song I wish it was on iTunes do I can download it- great job by the way I've also done Fiberglass mold just like these

Could of questions:
What kind of gel coat did you use?
Was there any catalyst used for the gel coat?
What was the mix ratio?
Was this epoxy or polyester resin?
Why didn't you use PVA on the mold?
How long did you let the gel coat dry before applying the fiber mesh?
Rather than add music, why not just narrate the video?
averagemale2000 6 months ago
@averagemale2000
Polyester gelcoat, unsure of the name brand because it was given to me.
Yes, MEKP
2%
Polyester.
I don't always use PVA, but I do use it sometimes.
About 30 minutes to an hour.
I wanted to do this video like GasserGlass use to do his since he got me started in this business.

Great video. I hope your hands aren't itching too bad... and that you were using a mask while cutting and sanding.
that shit is bad to breathe, and will irritate your skin.

@TheHiddenPart I'm use to it as far as the skin goes and I do wear a mask most of the time.
