there is a lot of '77 elvis in this performance. its obvious jim is road weary here. not to mention mentally fatigued & physically not well. ck out any of the photos or accounts of him at this performance, he didnt look good, nor was he in a good state of mind. yet, like elvis' last year, he still refused to go softly into that good night. hes still putting his passion & balls on the line here. you can still hear the danger & passion in his bruised baritone.
@shellystuart well, i think every music genre can be good, not all singers or rap musicans or what ever, but there are some people who make great rap music... Yeah my english sucks :o
In Toronto in the 60'sI saw The Beatles , The Stones, James Brown, Creedence, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin at The Rock Pile, Steppenwolf, Procul Harum,Blind Faith,The Band, Johnny Winter, Sly and The Family Stone, The Who,Janis Joplin,Grateful Dead, Traffic, Mountain,Ten Years After, and of course John Lennon and the Plastic Onno Band with the Doors that night at Varsity and for my money no one beats The Doors the way they played that night Thank God I was there
This has to be from the Rock and Roll Revival show in 69 lead by John and Yoko. Alice Cooper made his first big appearance here, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Doors, John and Yoko were all at this Toronto rock festival along with a few others.
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.
Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
The Doors are among my top 3 best bands of all time, however I think you're being unfair to rap. I am far from a regular fan but if you look into "classic" rap songs, they are good musically and lyrically they are often genius. I think you're just branding what you hear on the radio as "rap" because that is agreeably crap. I just try to approach music with an open mind. Specific genres are not a requirement for music to be "good".
This very cool. Toronto Rock and Roll Revival. John Lennon, The Doors, Chuck Berry, and others. Also the infamous incident where Alice Cooper tossed a chicken into the crowd. What a show.
I am an old guy and was at this concert. The doors closed and sounded excellent. This recording do not do the group justice. I also vividly remember Yoko Ono making a total fool of herself..LOL
In the Toronto pictures, Jim looks like a bum. And that self-inflicted haircut, he's no Jay Sebring. And the performance was one of the low points for The Doors, which was why it was never filmed unlike the other acts in the Rock n' Roll revival: Chuck Berry, Little Richard, John Lennon, et al. The Doors were sludge in that gig.
If it was such a "spirited" performance, then why did The Doors refuse to be filmed capturing their "spirited" performance. Take it as it comes (pardon the expression), but that particular Doors gig was crap. Its just my opinion, it won't ruin one of the greatest bands in history. You can't always bat a 1,000 in every game. As for Lennon, I loved the rawness of the first public concert of the Plastic Ono Band. Its too bad the Beatles didn't play live in the latter 60s, they would have rocked.
I love the live raw sound of this recording. Also didn't know that this was all part of Lennon playing in 1969 during his first solo performance. If that is true, then just amazing. I've read a lot on the Beatles. Did the Doors and Beatles ever meet up? I've never heard of any meetings between the two.
jim was very fond of weed he would never pass on a joint,i once read that he and pam drove to morrocco in march 71 and gave 200 dollors for a chunk of hash,it never turned up and jim wennt beserk
the audio doesn't seem very good, a bit warped but still cool to hear it. If you haven't seen "When You're Strange" then you're missing out. A must see. Especially on the big screen.

its physically impossible to know were, if any place, you go after you die. Im not bashing anyones religeon or beliefs, im just sayin that no one KNOWS
Oh, You might want to read "Graceful Exits". There are many accounts of various people calling Eight Ball in the corner pocket right down to the hour.
Read a piece called "Morrison's Days In Paris" Morrison defianately wanted to come back (From Paris) to the US and record another w/ the Doors, which they (Doors) had already began laying down tracks on. Rumor to this day, Morrison actually OD'd in a Paris nightclub, the owner knew it was Morrison, didn't want the singer dying in his club, Morrison still alive but unconscious was taken back to Pam at their flat, where he was put in the tub to revive. Jim then died and was buried quickly.
YES: it's on a bootleg cd called Palace of Exile, in a good soundboard recording;
sadly the End is spliced & it's not clear that Jim did the Oedipal scene anyway, as he (wrongfully) stuck in the lizard silliness---which would have been GREAT if combined with the Oedipal, but Jimbo dropped it, perhaps due to the harrassment, persecution of the Miami trial; he knew he was being watched & had to beg for permit to leave The Land of the Free..
Thanks, too bad this footage can't be seen of Morrison. Just read about his last days in Paris, rumored he actually overdosed in a bathroom stall then taken back to his flat.
Lennon, Clapton and Plastic Ono Band were the headliners at this show. Lennon's first live performance w/o the Beatles. The album "Live Peace in Toronto" covered this show. LPIT had "Money", "Yer Blues", "Blue Suede Shoes" and some of Yoko's garbles on it. I've seen the video of this concert, Morrison didn't want the Doors part of the show taped, he was gaining so much weight (from drinking) and reportedly look very bad by this time. I've never seen the Doors gig from this show. Luv to see it
Actually, the Doors were the headliners at this gig in Toronto - but with Morrison looking so terrible, the band didn't want to be filmed. With ticket sales low, the promoter called Lennon to see if he wanted to just show. Lennon would go if he could "play," which he and Clapton ended up doing. The Plastic Ono Band was far better than the Doors that night.
@JackSharks74 Says who?? The Plastic Ono Band was better than the Doors at Toronto '69? I strongly beg to differ. If you listen to the entire audience tape, Jim gives a very spirited performance as does the entire band! Definitely a major highlight of the entire festival!
It's called classic rock for a reason. I was introduced to the Doors in detail as a college student in the 80s. There are kids in HS and college who listen to the Doors today. They are immortal. As for the rap crap...please. There's nothing classic about it. It's a continuous revolving door year after year for small minds.
I agree that classic rock is truely where its at, but you cannot be so ignorant to knock all rappers. i agree that almost all mainstream rap artists are bogus and sing only about money and material things, but underground artists such as immortal technique and jedi mind tricks talk about real issues. also k'naan, he is becoming more popular, and has been labelled as the modern day bob marley is very good, singing songs about somalia and the injust going on in africa.
@ThePrimeDirective yeah but i am in middle school but i am almost done with 8th grade so i will be into high school in september andi started listening to the doors and just love thier sounds
@llamasarus1 Im not a fan of rap but I wouldn't hardly call it a fad. It's been around since the 70's. Fads don't stay around for decades. We should all remember that many during that time also though this kind of music was terrible also. It's all subjective to the listener.
@LANORDA9 i see what you mean but im talking about raps current state. i don't have a problem with old school rap. I'm just talking about todays arrogant rap. After all, genres evolve over time and rock's influence is dying really fast. thats disappointing.
@ThePrimeDirective That's one of the dumbest fucking things I've ever read on YouTube. To say Rap is crap is so unimaginably ignorant it's truly a wonder how you could appreciate a song by The Doors, let alone Break on Through. What do you think rap did when it came out? This live recording is absolute shit quality, and even if it weren't there are so many more Doors songs that they never dare play on "Classic Rock" radio at any time.
