@IgnoredComment  I doubt it would but Giant anteaters have extremely powerful claws. I believe a zookeeper died to an attack a few years ago and they've found jaguar corpses in the wild who were mauled to death by one.

@plazmawhip In fact giant anteaters are mean assholes as you can see in this video and can readily kill a human or other large animals.

This happened in my city not long ago, where a giant anteater killed a zookeeper by slashing her tight and through the femoral artery. They have large claws and powerful arms and can stand upright to defend themselves from pumas, jaguars and maned wolfs that live in the same habitar.

Again, it's nice that these animals coexist int he wild. But I wonder if this behavior isn't a problem. Obviously anteaters don't have teeth and their mouths are tiny anyway, but those front claws are enormous and extremely strong. The tapir may be constantly harassed by the anteater.

as far as i can tell you: no problems. my dentist does all the care for the animals in the duisburg zoo. apes, cows, tapirs. anything. she was injured by a giant anteater - giant claws, deep into her muscles. noone knows why. but no attacks to the tapirs yet. i think the anteater wants to eat the insects from the tapirs skin. sometimes they do in perfect harmony. the tapirs lay down, the anteaters clean ...

yes, the nasty huge claws are supposed to rip open the termite mounds. Termite mounds are as hard as cement. So to rip open human flesh is not hard at all.

the giant anteaters care for the tapirs cleanliness - they lick away anything that could be tasty ..! it seems that the giant anteaters play the same role as these small fish cleaning the big ones, even in their mouths ..

so - i think its partly a game to hunt the tapir, and second its the hunting for food .. lol !!!

when the tapirs relax and have a short sleep - the anteaters approach and clean !
