I'll break it down for you by assigning numerical values to the variables:

X = 5

W = 5

Y = 4

Z = 9

5 + 4 = 9, and 5 + 4 = 9, but 5 + 5 = 10.

Not knowing at least one of the variables means these variables can represent a multitude of outcomes, which may or may not be equal in the end.
