Being 60 years old and traveling the world, I decided on the MEI Voyageur. It's max carry-on size and the shoulder straps and waist belt zip away if you want to carry it with a shoulder belt or regular carry handle, 1000 D Cordura.
How much money do you need to travel for a month and a half? It costs a lot of money to get over to say, spain.. Do you need a lot of money once you get there? I'm going to have close to 2 grand for next summer, will this be enough to travel to spain and around europe??
i recommend buy "gas-X" strips.. they're like those mints that you put on your tongue and they dissolve but this take every stomach ache away ! i loove them, if you dont feel to go, simply take one and in five minutes you're fine
Awesome tips! As a fellow backpacker, it´s interesting to see what others bring. You can always pick up on something new & what I got out of this video was the suggestion for the headlamp! How cool is that?!?! I´ll get one myself. Also, the practical advice about less is more couldn´t be more spot on. I can´t believe what some people haul all over the place, practically taking their entire _______ house with them in a pack sized form.
I agree completely with the i-pod thing. Thats just expirience. Also i would say bring a knife. Doesnt have to be a machete insane crazy knife, just a small pocket knife. Multiple uses. next. SOCKS! but thats just me, i was in the military, and i was tought that the most important peice of GI gear is socks, but i wear tenni shoes. You wont need em for chokos. Cool video though... Chap stick is good 2
me and my 2 cousins traveled for 9 months around the northwest (i.e utah, oregon, montana, wyoming, canada etc.) with (each of us) had the clothes on our back, a pocket knife, lighters (for fire lol were not smokers) hygiene kit (grew used to it in military), and water. we found our own food :D, it was a blast... cool video 2!
i did 6 months with a 46 liter pack (smallest of all travelers i met) and ended up giving away a bunch of stuff after a few days. you realize quickly how little you need once you get on the road. next time i plan on bringing even less; sub 12 pounds. it really does make a difference; people with too much stuff are always regretful of their packs.
@avalanchesoul Definitely! I would bring less stuff on another trip around the world. I mostly carry just my equipment now and buy clothes as I need them. Way more liberating!
@avalanchesoul I have a buddy who is traveling around the world without any luggage and writing a book. It's called "The Luggageless Traveler," and he literally has no bag. Just a pair of cargo pants and a jacket. And a smartphone that he is using to write the book on. It's kind of crazy really!
wow. that's a book i'd pick up. i can imagine how that can help to further open oneself up, what with no 'security blanket' of possessions. i took off with no mp3 player, camera, or guidebook (though ended up buying a really old outdated one after a week of blind exploring) and, comparing stories with people, ended up having a richer experience for it, i think.
hmmm, your friend's endeavor is making me rethink my already spare pack list. cheers!
Thanks for the hints. I smiling with the details... but you're right, is a serious thing traveling internationally. One have to take extra care. International travels sounds funny and exciting! Thanks again.
Muahhaha! Thanks for watching! I got the towel at EMS on the East Coast. You could also go to REI or any other adventure-outfitter and they should have it. Its called a pack towel, and its made of fleece and/or chamois.
a couple of sarong I use any dry cloth(sarong mostly) as my towel, skirt, blanket, wrap etc. alarm clock and cp and sounds all one gadget... haha that alarm clock is big! --
hu hmnn you're kinda soft! those aren't basic to the T... you can go lighter than that, unessential items. Music, yeah that' can be your lifeline it can get lonely, a book(small not too big) and sounds can be friends on the road. But the meds, you should learn to go without coz there's everywhere around, drug stores. I use the same soup for my body, clothes and hair and had gone about without underwears...more comfy without when you get the hang of it.
Hey, can you tell me where you bought your towel from? I've been looking everywhere for one that is a relatively good size and the chamois fabric you've noted. Thanks for your help!
lol, I was backpacking one time, and I fell asleep in an open field beside my bag, becasue I was too lazy to open up my tent. When I woke up, My pack, shoes, hat, and camera were gone, and some guy was trying to pull my pants off without waking me. I was about to go home, when some lady told me that she seen a man with a big pack and stuff. I paid him 50 bucks american and he gave it back. I jyust cant believe I didn't wake up earlier!
Having travelled 35 countries: Six trips through Europe, a trip through South America, one in Africa, and now living in Asia (and doing side-trips from my Korean "homebase"), I can say without a doubt that this is an essential video for anyone to watch before embarking on a backing trip (their first one or otherwise).
Great stuff man. Thanks for putting this together@
Oh, I, too had a camera stolen -- as well as other "guaranteed" travel issues. Lessons learned!
thanks for the advice - very useful!!!!!

Is the Katadyn water bottle worth it? I've dabbled with the idea for years, but until now just made do with the hiker and vario.
