Very good observation...I was thinkin I was the only one that thinks that. Me bein' in my mid 40's listened to 60-70's growin' up...My wife 18 yrs younger listens to rap and 80's 90's. When I hear what she listens to, I hear all kinds of classic beat and lyrics stolen, or sold. good observation :) Thanks Peace & health
It's a game for me now! I love it when rap samples other music it is soothing to me cause it gives me something to connect with even if I can't connect with the particular song.
That's what you get for having a very good musical memory, it just pops up "hmmm... this song sounds like..."
It can be a bit anoying at times, depending of the song, at least to me. It keeps me from enjoying the new song and even spoils a bit the pleasure of hearing the other older one.
Today, with all the hip-hop and the make-a-"new"-music-over-an-older-sound-sample-loop-thing it's even worse. I keep thinking "oh... that bass-line is from that other song" or something like that :P
I heard three other songs in the newest "Decemberists" album, from; Tom Petty, The Talking Heads and The Rolling Stones! :-) I am glad I am not the only obsessor out there in regards to this.
I have a library of examples and last night I realized Witney Huston "The GReatest LOve" fits with the soul asylum song to "as long as I blah blah they can't take away my dignity" Woe is me.
you're a hottie!!!

You should work for ASCAP or BMI, tracking down plagiarized song samples and collecting royalties.

I even, just as a joke, start singing the "older" song over the "newer" one :D
