  • sounds like wheels to me.

  • i love his kind. he seems like dreaming while singing this song. great man

  • Agreed, Nirvana was not just Kurt. Kurt was the writer and force behind Nirvana as we remember it but he was not the band. Krist and Dave provided key elements to the music that made it what we hear. Dave has proven himself to be a profound song writer and a master of drums, vocals and guitar.

  • The guitar in the beginnig seems a bit like "In Bloom". But the whole context of the song is totally, totally different.

  • I seriously have a mancrush on Dave. He appears like such a great person!

  • Why does everyone say this has something to do with Nirvana, yes they covered it on the 'Heart Shaped Box' single but this version is only Dave Grohl under the name 'Late!'

  • is that only Dave? think I hear Kurt on backvocals

  • Doesn't that sound just a little bit like plush?

  • this song is so amazing and magic.

    love it,

    love Nirvana.

  • love this song!

  • Sounds like In Bloom and My Hero mixed.

  • @utoobking But a lot quieter.

  • Dave,Krist,Kurt all legions.

  • the intro part reminds me of in bloom... the chord pattern is similar

  • @davseeder

Holy shit you're right. Like the beginning chords of In bloom, but in Marigold's case, it's played throughout the song.

  • Dave, if you ever read this..

    GROW YOUR HAIR OUT LONG!!!!!

    i would appreciate it (:

    haha :D

  • @TheMasterSOAP his hair is long. have you seen him recently?

  • could listen to this all day :))

  • first time i heard this is when they went unplugged (foo fighters that is). Awesome soong

  • lol I just realised this was before Nirvana xD

  • @ChriyR This was while Dave was in Nirvana. it was released in 1992. And Dave joined Nirvana i 1990..

  • There was a Pocketwatch cassette going for 5,000 on Ebay. I really want to find another one, not just download it. I love Marigold, one of my favorite songs, this version is the best.

  • kurt and dave was the best conbination of song writers EVER mainly coz they both came from the bottom and came to the very top they sing about their hardships that they had living as normal people rather than these days u get kids from ages of about 9 and get specialy tutored(all paid for by ther very rich families) and grow up being famous...how amazing it must be to be able to go on that journy from poor kid to rich rock star ^_^

  • kinda sounds like the rythem guitar for my hero.

  • Dave has an awesome voice...

could hear him all the time

  • In bloom! (beginning...), anyone who says dave didn't write half the riffs is deluded, funny how nirvana completely evolved with Nevermind... (respect to kurt tho, he still did most of it....)

  • in bloom was written before grohl even joined the band. there are studio recordings of it with chad channing drumming and grohl learned his parts.

  • Ok whatever, it was just an observation, thats not to say he didn't help with other songs, listen to pocketwatch...

  • Kurt and Krist didn't know who Dave were (Well they seen him Drum) when this was done is 1990,Dave Joined Nirvana in 1991

  • @ChriyR yes, well done, but what has that got to do with what I said?

  • @ChriyR Dave actually joined in 1990

  • @birdy47 I know,I meant Nevermind

  • @ChriyR No you said he JOINED you didnt say Nevermind

  • were?

  • Without the three of them, Dave's powerhouse drumming, Krist's steady baselines, and Kurt's voice, there would have been no Nirvana. They all made Nirvana what it was, and what it remains today, not just Kurt.

  • no because nirvana did just fine without dave...

although i am completely contradicting my other comment, bleach is probably my favourite album anyways...

  • @TheeFooBaby if it wasnt dave nirvana woulb be known just to their neighborhood

  • @TheeFooBaby Besides Bleach.... that was Nirvana too, and Dave wasn't even part of it... sooooo false statement buddy.

  • @TheeFooBaby what about their first allbum with Chad, or all their demos even before they came out with Bleach

  • @shayaan2354, For sure--apparently Dale Crover doesn't count either.

  • my hero ffs. awesome

  • these songs are fun to learn awsome

  • these songs can you learn in a few seconds :D

anyway, dave grohl is just makin masterpieces!

  • oh this is beautiful

  • sounds like my hero and lady picture show!!!

  • sorry i commented with another channel, iwillalwaysloveparis it's mine

    nice video:)

  • i love this song

  • Dave Grohl wrote the song but Cobain liked it so it first came out as a B side to Nirvanas "Heart Shaped Box" single. After Nirvana Grohl released the song under a psedonym (Late!) in the album Pocketwatch

  • This apparently came out first in early 1992- "In Grohl's initial months in Seattle, Cobain overheard him working on a song called "Color Pictures of a Marigold", and the two ended up jamming on it. Grohl would later record the song for the Pocketwatch cassette. During the sessions for In Utero, he decided to re-record the song, and the band released this version as a b-side on the "Heart-Shaped Box" single, titled simply "Marigold"."

  • wikipedia lol

  • what band name did dave use for this for this album was late pocketwatch just the name of the album of his new side band name and did dave ever play any of these songs from late live ever cus there awesome but ive never heard them played at any of his shows? if anybody knows please reply id really be grateful thanx everyone

  • He played Marigold on the skin and bones dvd thingy. Otherwise than that, I don't think soo, hope i helped :)

  • is this daves own song or a cover if it is his song what album is it on? is it considered a foo fighters song or just a song by dave grohl please reply anybody thanx

  • Dave Grohl is hot...

  • oh my LORD, I know

  • this song is the bomb

  • The way that Dave overdubbed his harmonies sounds sweet as. Good song

  • dose anyone know if the "late!" pocketwatch is available anywhere or anyhow??

  • a copy of pocketwatch is on ebay right now

  • in the late! pocketwatch is called "color pictures of a marigold"

  • oh really? I didn't know that.

  • @cuauh05 No need to report as spam.

  • @skippednote don't know what you're talking about, buddy

  • this song is amazing. im not veyr big on anyd of the fo fighter's stuff, or much of anythign dave grohl has done... did this song go anywhere other than with the lights out or incesticide?

  • its on the heart shaped box single

  • no. it was on the all apologies single. and Im not talking about getting the song, Im talking about getting the hole record.

  • it wasn't on incesticide. but it was in the lights out box set. and it was the b side to the all apologies single and then became a foo fighters song

  • oh thanks btw, u should look at my videos :) the live band ones are poop becaus eof quality, mess ups and stuff, but everything else is alright:):)

  • wrong

was a b-side to heart shaped box

  • oh. then I guess dave, and kurt both decided to lie about what single it was on in two different interviews that were 12 years apart. t

  • it's on the heart shaped box single disc, it doesn't matter what you think they said.

  • whatever. you've been bitching about this for so long that I dont even remember what single I said this song was on.

  • i own the single; it's heart shaped box lol

  • why do u think he says "sorry" at the start?

  • oh i've heard this before.

  • i love this song!!

  • i think my hero was adapted off of this sort of, i mean if u really lsten they are similar

  • yeah your right,

  • my hero has this guitar with the chorus drums of in bloom, just my opinion.

  • the chords used in the verse of this and my hero are very similar, except that they are in reverse order, same chords though

  • I'd say they probably evolved separately, but I did see them play this about a year ago while they were doing the acoustic part of their set. They segued right into My Hero, you couldn't tell where one ended and the other began.

  • exactly i mean im not saying he wrote this then turned around and made my hero

im sure they were written seperately but, you can most definitely tell they were both written by dave

  • love the sound of the guitar in this, sounds almost medieval or like a harpsichord

  • I think this demo is more beautiful than any of the versions for nirvana or foo fighters. has a kind of shyness to it.

  • this is the only song of nirvana that kurt doesn't have any vocals in it. Love the song bytheway...Dave is good man

  • this is Dave's song not nirvanas!

  • i know, but still he sang this with nirvana...

  • and Kurt sang backup vocals for that song. So your wrong again.

  • No. It was just all Dave.

  • The Nirvana song featured Kurt on backup vocals.

  • no, its all dave

  • all dave :)

  • @KillerInstinct2006 kurt didn't sing on marigold at all

  • @KillerInstinct2006 No it isn't, Dave is double tracked with himself in the Nirvana version.

  • It's both

  • You forget "rock whore".

  • dave grohl is the tits

  • Lol, shows how much less Dave was depressed, compared with Kurt.

  • AbramSailor79 is right coz i have got the single and thats when i first herd the song

  • hey its not like every nirvana song didnt sound the same. playing guitar i found that every song of nirvanas uses the same chord

  • that doesnt suprise me, they intended for their music to be simple soo... yeah

  • Proving Dave was so much better with nirvana

  • He was an amazing drummer for the band, and I love Nirvana. However, I love his composing (although arguably he could drum and still write songs) moreso and crucially, love his voice. Foo Fighters is my favourite band that I've come across.

  • its sounds a little bit like my hero at the beggining

  • wasn't this the first song Dave Grohl wrote?

    pretty damn good! :)

  • No. Dave has said it and Friend of a Friend were the first songs he wrote on acoustic guitar.

The first song Dave wrote and recorded with himself on all instruments was Gods Look Down. Scream rerecorded it as a full band version with Dave and Pete Stahl both singing and released the song on the album Fumble.

  • this whole cassette was made by dave grohl lyrics music and vocals all by him but the song petrol cb where vocals are made by Barret jones

  • This is Grohls own "album" that he did in 1990, i don't know why many people is talking about Kurt, read about it in wikipedia

  • NO Cobain on this one...

  • awsome this was diffrent because if a drummer even thought of makin his own music he was usually out of the band

  • whos doing backing vocals?

  • Grohl, I supose

  • Grohl double tracked his vocals.

  • He used to.

  • ...in this song, his vocals are double tracked...

  • Oh, sorry, I misread "tracked" as "tracks."

  • He still double-tracks his vocals. His vocals are doubled on every Foo album ever released.

  • OLD FOO what up, davey grohlton. anyway did he on Echoes....? i thought taylor does it for the songs

  • Davey, from the postboard? Wuzzup.

Yeah, Dave double tracks his vocals on Echoes, too. Taylor just does backing vocals on three songs.

  • omg can i marry this song? haha :P

  • Too bloody right. This stuff may not be the best quality in terms of the sound, but it's music from the heart, without any commercial aspect to it. They should release it - they'd sell shitloads of 'em. Or they should at least release it as a second disc for a re-release of the first Foos album.

  • It is in the Nirvana box set.

  • Not this version.

  • dave re edited this song with kurt that's the version that you can hear in the nirvana box set

  • I think you mean rerecorded.

  • hahaha yes that i don't speak english very well so sorry hahaha

  • Also Dave on the box set, Kurt was never singing

  • Actaully Marigold was originally on the Heart-Shaped Box single. Though if its found listed as such on in Nirvana box set, i don't know.

  • Too bad the Pocketwatch stuff has never been released... Great!
