From our honored Malaysian player, can the shuttle really fly that FAST??!!! My goodness man that is FAST.....Tan Boon Heong/陳文宏 is AMAZING :)............!!
if you measure the microseconds after the shuttle leaves the racket in a strong smash of the world's top players it would be over 400km/h.. but the average of that would have only have been around 290km/h, nowhere as strong as fu haifeng
this guys should do in the competition and than see if he can smash like that..... there is a lot pro player who can do that just for breaking the "world record" *silly comment on that video.....
@skylinegtrr361 Actually the speed checking in the speed test was done using a high speed camera, while the speed checking in games are done using speed guns. See badmintondoublesdotcom/badminton-doubles/badminton-doubles-player-new-world-record-badminton-smash421 for more details.
I believe the confusion around whether or not the record was made during tournament play stemmed from a misinterpretation by some Chinese media (from Malaysia maybe?) of the original article from Japan. TBH indirectly confirmed himself that the record was during testing and not tournament play during an interview while he was in Taipei.
That said, his form, with a certain uniqueness and grace, is still my favorite among all MD players.
@Unkn0wnCrew He'd have to hit the shuttle at 1,225 km/h to produce a real sonic boom, but I'm sure the racket/strings would break at such a force, if it were even possible :)
it's because the IBF(International Badminton Federation) has the authority to post the record.. only tournaments under the IBF will be posted if one player has beaten the record... Fu Hai Feng is still the legit record holder under IBF. and This person isn't... This is not accurate.. if this is legit.. IBF will record it...
@izzy8990 The IBF have post the record beacause the speed checking thing is the yonex speed checking thing and the IBF use the yonex chechking thing right?? and the checking thing can capture almost 2000 km/h ......
I don't believe this. This is fake! Fu's record is 327 and that came from extreme energy and preparation to do that, it takes lifetime of practice and your gonna tell me this guy who is not even popular in smashing did 100 km more!?! that's impossible!
Lol. This is meaningless. This guy Tan has never fired any hots close to 300km/h in real battles. Almost of all his shots are below 280km/h. It is Fu Haifeng, a Chinese player, who made in a real match the fastest smash in the world, which is 343km/h, and Fu's smashes are mostly above 280km/h.
What yonex is trying to do in this video is stupid. They're optimizing the racket for one single hit, but in reality, it'd be pretty useless in an actual game
@santhoshbhoopal also, the reason why Fu's attack is so strong is that he can jump very high, and therefore the attacking angle is much sharper than other players, making it both faster and hard to retrieve.
malaysia has the best badminton players. tan boon heong and lee chong wei are some to name. but there are more for sure. lin dan of china is good to, but he's pure offensive. lee chong wei is very good at rotation defense and he's like a wall. :bd
@jello0820 taufik is the best, the most naturally gifted player badminton has ever witnessed...but yes lee is very good and so is lind dan, but if taufik trained as hard as lee and lin then there would be no stopping taufik
don't think that fu haifeng would be able to do it. Remember now that he is with Li Ning and the china team has ended all contracts with yonex. Well i don't see how it would hurt but i guess Fu Haifeng should try it out but i doubt it since Li Yongbo would probably say no to it.
so in lab they measure the speed right after the impact that come out about a foot or so only?
Is that really a good way to come pair with in game?
I don't think in game they actually able to measure like that, I don't know where and how they put the speed gun in game but I don't think they have that kind of technology like in lab.
@brainysnaeha Why are you comparing golf with badminton. A gold ball is more heavy so it can go more far. A golf club would give more torque because its more long, and a golf balls doesn't have feathers on it to slow its speed. Of course it would be more lethal, but who the fuck goes around hitting a golf ball at people.
@brainysnaeha Well first of all, neither of the sports should be compared of how lethal it is. Yes being hit by a golf ball would hurt more but thats only because its more hard in texture than a birdie. And plus the positions and ways people hit the object is different. Badminton should not be compared with gold because both sports are very different. Im not a gold player but a badminton player so its really hard for me to tell where your getting at. This 420 record however is about 250 mph.
@brainysnaeha I thought and i don't want to. I want to play a sport were i can use cardio, not just mastering my accuracey alone. Golf is an expensive sport and i wont deny that, but who says badmintons not expensive as well.

They want the best smasher to test it and Tan is the best now... It's not a matter of who is endorsed by who..
Nope its not a coincidence. Other testers of the racquet are Markis Kido, Nova Widianto, and Koo Kien Keat. All of them including Tan are contract players of Yonex. We can't really say that Tan is the better smasher since there are no organized events for players to compete who really is the hardest smashers. Also hardest doesn't mean effective. Search this "Tan Boon Heongs 421km/h Badminton Smash a New World Record?" to have a better understanding.
lol there is no doubt that fu's smash is consistently more powerful than Tan's. he has the fastest smash recorded in international competition, as well as the 3rd 4th and 5th fastest in doubles competition. let tan beat fu's in a cmpetition with standardised infa red equipment. all commentators will tell you that fu has the most powerful smash in badminton. i do like tan and koo, i'm just speaking the truth as niether a malaysian or chinese guy.
@terenceheng83 Oh yes, it is. Fu is still way better than Tan - he smashes faster than 290 consistently in tournaments, whereas Tan rarely gets one faster than 280. This test isnt comparable at all, the racket is prepared just for this purpose (to smash as fast as possible, I doubt Tan would play well with it), the speed is measured in a totally different way than in tournaments and the shuttle is fed to him in a relaxed manner. This is of course a big achievement, but not comparable to Fu's.
dood. so what? do you not understand what i just said? i thought i made it clear that i don't care either way, and that it doesn't matter when he did it, and that everyone here who keeps arguing about it is just missing out on what's really important. the only thing that matters is that tan boon heong tees up and dials it in like a ferocious beast, and it's awesome, and we're lucky enough (through the miracle of technology) to be able to witness it through this video.
@hhhkkkhhhjkjki No, he actually did it in a test at the Japan Open where every Yonex-sponsored player could try to smash as hard as possible. He never used this racket in serious competition, always a Ti-10 or NS9900.
he did it in an out of competetion test during the japan open. Yonex also used a different method of calculating the speed than tournament officials do during matches, so take it with a grain fo salt. I doubt it was actually 100km/h faster than taufik's or fu haifeng's smashes which were radared in competition.

Golf is more of a playing on balance and strategy than you think
when course and competition is getting prtty fierce.
It doesn't require much physical strength but requires strong
mind and long term body durability.
This is the sport of mastering art of driving, approach, short game
and putting.
And yeah badminton is not that cheap you also have to change
racket, shaft and net quite often in oder to keep on performance.

This is of course a big achievement, but not comparable to Fu's.

dood. so what? do you not understand what i just said? i thought i made it clear that i don't care either way, and that it doesn't matter when he did it, and that everyone here who keeps arguing about it is just missing out on what's really important. the only thing that matters is that tan boon heong tees up and dials it in like a ferocious beast, and it's awesome, and we're lucky enough (through the miracle of technology) to be able to witness it through this video.

k... not arguing but agree ....

@hhhkkkhhhjkjki No, he actually did it in a test at the Japan Open where every Yonex-sponsored player could try to smash as hard as possible. He never used this racket in serious competition, always a Ti-10 or NS9900.

i think they take it at point of impact...where as the speeds in tournaments are taken as it passes the net if im not mistaken...
shanebrain 2 years ago
he did it in an out of competetion test during the japan open. Yonex also used a different method of calculating the speed than tournament officials do during matches, so take it with a grain fo salt. I doubt it was actually 100km/h faster than taufik's or fu haifeng's smashes which were radared in competition.

No, it was done under testing conditions, and the method of measurement is different from the method used in tournaments.
So if you're comparing this to FHF's record, it'd be like comparing apples to oranges
