@halflinks The government IS eventually going to run out of stimulus money to fund new government jobs, so you won't see big increases in public sector employment, but private growth has continued through the last couple months, and that's the goal. Employment data shows private/public sector breakdowns, and the private sector grew very little in May, only about 11,000, and private sector jobs grew again in June, about 83,000. This is all small steps... but in a good direction, at least.

Greenspan issued a warning that Fannie and Freddie were playing with fire. Democrats all voted the bill down.
Republicans had a majority in 2005, and control of the executive branch, if they wanted the bill passed it would have been passed. However, the bill would have done little to nothing. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac started the bubble, when those two institutions wouldn't inflate it any further Wall Street firms took their place and inflated the subprime mortgage bubble to catastrophic proportions. Take off your partisan blinders so you can see the whole picture.

I love out president and I really like everything he is doing but the recovery act doesn't help unemployed people. The field that I have experience took a nose dive. Now I'm on unemployment and I can't get training, Can't go to school because they could cut my benefits off, and still no work. I would love to be trained in solar energy. I have tried to get in the class and I never can I have been unemployed for one year now. I just wish someone would really help.
The true recovery of the economy does not lie in unemployment but in the underemployed index. Why they can't realize that I don't know. You can't have a person laid off from a 60k/year job and rehired with a 40k/year job and expect the economy to rebound. That person won't be in the market for a new house, car, etc... thus stunting any any real economic recovery. BTW, this video completely disregards the current stock market situation-- a better indicator of the economy.

We are BROKE as a country and half to take our medicine and stop the spending. Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it.
While I support president Obama on matters not including the economy so far in his presidency, it is inaccurate to pretend that the meltdown was all Wall Street excesses and to ignore the role that the Federal Reserve played in encouraging and facilitating those excesses.
One of the reasons you will not have a proper recovery is that nothing has been fixed in your system. If you measure the DOW in terms of gold (a real currency, not a FIAT), you are only 4% above the low point of the crash

@halflinks The government IS eventually going to run out of stimulus money to fund new government jobs, so you won't see big increases in public sector employment, but private growth has continued through the last couple months, and that's the goal. Employment data shows private/public sector breakdowns, and the private sector grew very little in May, only about 11,000, and private sector jobs grew again in June, about 83,000. This is all small steps... but in a good direction, at least.

Hi Mr President. You think you can maybe motivate the IRS to give us our first time home buyer credits? Not much recovery happening for most of us it seems with the long waits, (months not weeks) and not even knowing if we get it. I know this from calling them just to get vague answers each time. Ironic part is an IRS agent did my paperwork. Pretty bad if they cant trust even their own. But what the heck, I still support you :)

Dem's did block the 2005 legislation, but the Repub's could have used reconciliation as they had four times prior.

They took strong job growth and turned it into increasingly large job losses. They deregulated the most important sectors of the economy, destabilizing it at a crucial time. I'll agree Clinton-era free trade moves are to blame for manufacturing losses, but it WAS mostly Bush who ruined things, sorry you fail to acknowledge reality.

@Fringe111 In 2005 the Senate Banking Committee tried to reign in Fannie Mae and Feddie Mac by passing strong, new regulations co-sponsored by McCain which would have prevented Fannie and Freddie from acquiring bad mortgages and would have provided. Greenspan issued a warning that Fannie and Freddie were playing with fire. Democrats all voted the bill down.

Republicans had a majority in 2005, and control of the executive branch, if they wanted the bill passed it would have been passed. However, the bill would have done little to nothing. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac started the bubble, when those two institutions wouldn't inflate it any further Wall Street firms took their place and inflated the subprime mortgage bubble to catastrophic proportions. Take off your partisan blinders so you can see the whole picture.

Job loss had absolutely nothing directly to do with the WH in either case. Note that it dropped proportional to the stock market. The only thing the WH can do about jobs is brag if it goes up or blame the previous office holder if it goes down.
Note as well: Jobs are still falling. Government job growth is masking the decline as well as people running out of unemployed compensation, which is the measure for this graph.

Those lauding this video just don't get it. Both parties want to stay in power and will kick the debt can down the road as long as they can. But the fact is that this unconscionable spending leads to another $1.7T deficit this year - 12% of the GDP. The compounding of these annual deficits is making the payment of the interest unserviceable barring more printing. We have to cut military and all entitlements dramatically or we are looking at a currency collapse. Learn math and wake up!

I love out president and I really like everything he is doing but the recovery act doesn't help unemployed people. The field that I have experience took a nose dive. Now I'm on unemployment and I can't get training, Can't go to school because they could cut my benefits off, and still no work. I would love to be trained in solar energy. I have tried to get in the class and I never can I have been unemployed for one year now. I just wish someone would really help.

The true recovery of the economy does not lie in unemployment but in the underemployed index. Why they can't realize that I don't know. You can't have a person laid off from a 60k/year job and rehired with a 40k/year job and expect the economy to rebound. That person won't be in the market for a new house, car, etc... thus stunting any any real economic recovery. BTW, this video completely disregards the current stock market situation-- a better indicator of the economy.

To be truthful about it, it was the Clinton administration's decisions that led to the collapse of the banks, Wall Street and the housing and job markets. Bush made the problem worse and tried to conceal the problem with stimulus money. Now Obama is continuing the same policies and that will also catch up to us eventually. We The People have to break the tradition of letting Goldman Sachs and the big bankers ru(i)n the financial system for every administration that takes office.

While I support president Obama on matters not including the economy so far in his presidency, it is inaccurate to pretend that the meltdown was all Wall Street excesses and to ignore the role that the Federal Reserve played in encouraging and facilitating those excesses.
One of the reasons you will not have a proper recovery is that nothing has been fixed in your system. If you measure the DOW in terms of gold (a real currency, not a FIAT), you are only 4% above the low point of the crash
