Venuzuela has a nationalized oil industry as does Russia. Canada tried it...even set up a crown corp...Petro Canada that was not competitive until the government sold it off...The "Big multinationals" don't come in and just take it, they pay royalties...government CANNOT do it on its own, and when they try in turns into bloated bureaucracy, do you take the risk to explore for it? As an Albertan I hate it when Canadians say that it is our oil. It is Alberta's Oil. If you want a piece of the pie move here. You think we are ripping you off, it works both ways. It is pretty much impossible for Alberta to manufacture here and sell it to Ontario do to provincial tariffs.

I say let the eastern bastards freeze in the dark. You want to Nationalize Oil, it is against the constitution which states natural resources are under provincial jurisdiction. Fool Alberta once with NEP...

Don't you think a Nationalized energy polocy would benefit all Canadians including Albertans. The only ones who would lose would be the multi-national oil companies. Further do you think the USA would let another nation control it's oil reserves? Look at Dubai and other Arab states, they are now lending money to the USA, the young Canadians and the next generation would enjoy prosperity like never before. Or we sit and watch the oil and revenue go outside the country.

i like i just how it is now, the wealth in alberta would go away if we nationalized our oil. If alberta were a country on its own (which it might be one day) it would have the second highest GDP per captalfor a country in the world next to luxembourg.

We are giving away our oil and at the same time giving away an excellent oppurtunity to better our country with a cheap & abundant source of energy and revenues for capitol investments; it's ridiculous. To have no policy is shortsighted and , frankly, idiotic. We should follow the Norwegian model.
