I don't think anybody can argue that this game obviously borrows from God of War, at the very least. The roll-dodge, the whip attacks, the basic style...

Sucks that God of War was their first action game. It's decent but certainly not the best ever and inventor of all things action-oriented. After all, Jaffe specifically used DMC as a model for the gameplay he wanted in his game. Lords of Shadow is amazing btw. Its mechanics have some great depth and almost reach the levels of NG and DMC
@HumorousLOL As long as you view it more as Castlevania trying to make something new out of itself, you won't be disappointed at all. It invokes all of the same feelings that past CV games do. Your experience will just come tumbling down though if you expect it to be the same thing CV's always been. I'm excited you're gonna give it a go! Just take your time with it and really open yourself up the experience. It's pretty emotional. It also makes me want Robert Carlyle in every game, lol.

@Z3RK777 Ninja Gaiden doesn't give you room to be bored, the enemies will attack you ruthlessly until you die in that game. They don't just stand there and throw out an attack every so often like other games in the genre. There's also a ton of different ways to kill them, so the game rarely gets boring.

After reading your posts I agree with you, I played the "Castlevania: Curse of Darkness" for the PS2 and honestly it was a fun different experience and when thinking about it altough the series came first the last Castlevania resembles the GoW series in a way where I can understand you all, although it somewhat keeps it's castelvania style I'm convinced to agree with you guys when you say they took some of GoW's main features and implanted them on this game.

I won't say Castlevania belongs in 2D, but that it simply has its place there as it does in a "good" 3D rendition, it's just that they couldn't get it perfect (Lament is still my favorite 3D one). In my opinion this reboot is the best thing that could happen to Castlevania, series has been stale since after the PS2/GBA releases.

Off the subject. Just beat the game! Good overall but TOO MANY puzzles! No place for puzzles in an adventure game. Must be at least 20-30 if not more. Complaints about puzzles in game call KONAMI at 310-220-8330. Hopefully the next one has no puzzles or animals stealing our relics/magic.

@Pooternackle5 I guess you forgot about the Legacy of Kain series! Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver came out a good five to six years before GoW and a lot of the mechanics for that game were used for GoW. Does it really matter though? Soul Reaver, GoW and Lords of Shadow are great games! Games borrow from one another all the time! Without Mario there wouldn't be a Sonic. Without Street Fighter there wouldn't be all these countless fighting games we enjoy now! Just enjoy the games!

You know that the oldschool Castlevania is, but this EDITION(Lords of Shadow) is newer than God of War? Search it on Wikipedia: God of War(First edition/1/whatever) was made for PS2 in 2005, Lords of Shadow was made for PS3 and Xbox360 in 2010. So we can assure that this is a God of War based game.

i just do not understand the logic of this debate, that has been going on for a few years now. seriously - give it a rest. if every single game released had to be unique, there would not be much to chose from would there? how is this a good thing?! there would only be one movie about sharks, one ghost movie, one alien movie, we'd all have iphones and play god of war on the ps3 because there is nothing else. come on!!

Every time an action adventure game comes out PS3 owners say only one thing and one thing only "Its a GOW rip off"!!!!!!!!! What the hell? Well FYI action adventures are all about hopping-jumping, wall running, fighting big monsters and running around ancient places.... and GOW doesnt own that style of gameplay! I guess you forgot about prince of persia which started in 2003 and GOW is just like that. So which one is the rip off now??????? and also think about orenco's comment too....

@Pooternackle5 I guess you forgot about the Legacy of Kain series! Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver came out a good five to six years before GoW and a lot of the mechanics for that game were used for GoW. Does it really matter though? Soul Reaver, GoW and Lords of Shadow are great games! Games borrow from one another all the time! Without Mario there wouldn't be a Sonic. Without Street Fighter there wouldn't be all these countless fighting games we enjoy now! Just enjoy the games!

@orenco but the current castlevania bears little resemblance to the classic 2D castlevania in the 80's and 90's in terms of gameplay, new castlevania uses the same 3D gameplay as GoW... so even though the series existed for quite some time, the gameplay is very similar to GoW.

this is not a slasher so its not thesame genre so its not a ripoff of devil may cry. it is however an action platformer with main characters weapon so painfully resembling kratoses arm blades on chains they should have called it castlevania kratos of shadows. Im not playing it because i dont have the platform. im an artist to some extent and i personaly dont give a damn about whos ben ripping of who as long ast they admitt and give credit for the inspiration

You know that the oldschool Castlevania is, but this EDITION(Lords of Shadow) is newer than God of War? Search it on Wikipedia: God of War(First edition/1/whatever) was made for PS2 in 2005, Lords of Shadow was made for PS3 and Xbox360 in 2010. So we can assure that this is a God of War based game.
In a teaser of this game(Castlevania: Lords of Shadow), I saw an arena EXACTLY like one in GoW2 when you fight with the crazy undead barbarian. Nevermind, I prefer play Megaman ^^

Stop brawling on what one ripped another game. This is pointless. Every game since ever is a copy of Super Mario Bros from the nes. And the games evolved and get better as their elements got mixed to create the better games ever. I don't see aby resemblance between the three games (GOW, CV and DMC), beside the fact the three are action games. Onimusha 3 has ripped the ectoplasm enemy out of Castlevania Symphony of the Night and no one said anything. Why complain now?
