I love how deadmau5 knows his shit. All about sync, latency, MIDI protocol and what not. Most producers have no idea about sync, even in the professional realm. Thats the kind of stuff that sets people apart.
Well the samples are basicly illegal because they're ripped of from other well known tracks and you have to clear everyone of them to be not accused of copyright threatening.
And the Limiter. Well if your as famouse / rich as deadmau5 you'd probably buy a good plugin right?
@Breitbild First of all, only a tiny fragment of those samples are ripped - those that are, are either legal under copyright law or used with permission. So illegal - bullshit.
Just about every well-known producer I've ever heard of uses Vengeance Samples.
And he uses the free limiter because it has low CPU-usage.
Which I thought he'd made clear enough in the video.
@Breitbild Did you watch the grammys? Remember the Foo Figthers they recorded in a garage with an old analog tape recorder. You don't need the best gear and plugs to make hits. Your points are not relevant
Watched this video a few years ago when I was just starting to make music and didn't understand a word, a couple of years later and a long time working on my music I finally do haha.
@StoneddSloth I'm just starting out and i didn't understand a single word he said haha ;) could you recommend some hardware or software to start out with producing electronic music? i just bought ableton and i'm trying to figure out what else to buy, i was considering the novation launchpad but any recommendations would be much appreciated!
For those who want to know what the "secret compressor" is; If you look closely it is "fx-buscomp" Meaning designed by FXpansion, although the coder from FXpansion released it under his own brand Cytomic. In a nutshell the compressor is Cytomic The Glue
@progged0 More like the opposite, there's a difference between being famous and a sell out. I would say David Guetta/Tiesto are sell outs, performing with famous artist simply to get more money.
What he's saying at 7:00 is exactly my predicament. No way would I try to reproduce a track live by simply loading up a track and controller configurations. I wouldn't trust my laptop to not crash with all the plugins and stuff. What I do is render out various sequences as wav files and then I can arrange them live.
@JanJoosdt You're kidding, right? Tiesto is *the* DJ - started out as one, production is more of a side-effect. Deadmau5, on the other hand, is more of a producer than a live-performer.
@Girholiday He's doing stuff his own way. It's somewhat complex compared to what is needed, but let me help you. Basically what it all boils down to is, how to recreate live what you produce in the studio. You don't need all the gear he has. All you need is a way to get your tracks divided into loops/bars that you can trigger live. If you are using material already mastered, you're halfway there. Also, use a controller to tweak effects on sequences/loops live and that's your start, right there.
Thought you all might like to know - DCAM Synth Squad (the FXpansion synths Joel talks about around 13:00) on sale for £69 / $99 (usually £189/$249) til the end of the year. So if you're looking for a new VSTi or two for Christmas.. the pack includes the synth "Strobe", as namechecked on "For Lack of a Better Name".
@Wachusay I know, just like how he smokes around his gear too. In one gear he is puffing on a cigarette while he's twiddling around with his modular gear worth thousands of dollars.
this guys got some cool shit. Wonder who hooks him up with those touch pad controls. I'm guessing apple is the hook. He helped program some mixing app that was released on the app store.
I like to think i know a lot about electronic music creation and production, but jesus christ, when i listen to deadmau5, there are times when i feel like im 5 years old.
Camera man is so off in his own world here... never looks at what your explaining haha, thanks for the explanation mau5. Ima play bit more with my plugins :D
@03chilaquil buy some decks, but i woudn't bother djing is boring as hell, live mixing is much more compelling, but then you need to be able to write music to even get that far.
@InfinityEnterprises his isnt but the freedom for him to make it more so (like recent sets from him) is there this way. Where as decks restrict you to a certain format.
i dont know about you guys but all of that seems a tad unneccesary to me, i mean he's awesome and all that but i dont really see how he has this huge ass elaborate setup
@stopdropandance hes always wanted to do gigs without the mau5head as you cant see anything properly in them so he got what he wanted and whenever he doesnt wear a giant mousehead he wears a cap anyway..
For those not understanding this, he's saying how he gets his live show to sound good. Sounds to me like he basically runs a dry signal + parallel compression, then a maximizer at the end. He uses a ton of gear, which makes it difficult to sync. He also likes gear that allows him to customize.
