  • whats that company called where he gets his synths from?

  • I love how deadmau5 knows his shit. All about sync, latency, MIDI protocol and what not. Most producers have no idea about sync, even in the professional realm. Thats the kind of stuff that sets people apart.

  • he just screwed with all those nintendo tatoos

  • And I Thought All He Did Was Press PLAY! o.0

  • Its weird not seeing him with his tattoos!

  • the low CPU compressor he's on about is "the glue" compressor.

  • I didn't understand a single word he just said.

  • omg.. he uses the free Limiter Plugin W1 too????

  • waiwaiwait does Deadmau5 uses Vengeance Packages Samples???

    at 07:55 (VEE Precussion)

correct me if I am wrong..

  • @OlstiMusic yeah saw that too

  • @OlstiMusic Holy shit you're right!

  • @OlstiMusic so what oO

  • @AlexRider001 aah which what? :D

Vengeance samples or the free Limiter?

Well the samples are basicly illegal because they're ripped of from other well known tracks and you have to clear everyone of them to be not accused of copyright threatening.

And the Limiter. Well if your as famouse / rich as deadmau5 you'd probably buy a good plugin right?

  • @Breitbild First of all, only a tiny fragment of those samples are ripped - those that are, are either legal under copyright law or used with permission. So illegal - bullshit.

Just about every well-known producer I've ever heard of uses Vengeance Samples.

And he uses the free limiter because it has low CPU-usage.

Which I thought he'd made clear enough in the video.

  • @Breitbild Did you watch the grammys? Remember the Foo Figthers they recorded in a garage with an old analog tape recorder. You don't need the best gear and plugs to make hits. Your points are not relevant

  • 1:33 öööxactlyy lolz :D

  • David guetta creates 19 youtube accounts for dislike this 19 times :/

  • Oh man when he says "out" he is so Canadian...

  • Deadmau5 = most awesome nerd ever!

  • Comment removed

  • holy shit this guy is a genius o.O

  • deadmau5 has n .als pack for ableton.

I lost it, does anyone have it or can anyone tell me where to get it?

    I've looked everywhere.

    It's called yeah_whatever.als

  • Watched this video a few years ago when I was just starting to make music and didn't understand a word, a couple of years later and a long time working on my music I finally do haha.

  • @StoneddSloth I'm just starting out and i didn't understand a single word he said haha ;) could you recommend some hardware or software to start out with producing electronic music? i just bought ableton and i'm trying to figure out what else to buy, i was considering the novation launchpad but any recommendations would be much appreciated!

  • @grntrr29 NI Maschine + Sylenth

  • @grntrr29 komplete 8- a great value if you like NI products

  • For those who want to know what the "secret compressor" is; If you look closely it is "fx-buscomp" Meaning designed by FXpansion, although the coder from FXpansion released it under his own brand Cytomic. In a nutshell the compressor is Cytomic The Glue

  • This is probably one of the most unique ways to mix I've seen. Dude knows what he's doing.

  • i really like the way he communicates and explains things. this helps answer a lot of questions in my persuit to integrate technology into my music.

  • deadmau5, the progressive 5£ll out

  • @progged0 More like the opposite, there's a difference between being famous and a sell out. I would say David Guetta/Tiesto are sell outs, performing with famous artist simply to get more money.

  • @JanJoosdt yup but he still makes good music

  • What he's saying at 7:00 is exactly my predicament. No way would I try to reproduce a track live by simply loading up a track and controller configurations. I wouldn't trust my laptop to not crash with all the plugins and stuff. What I do is render out various sequences as wav files and then I can arrange them live.

  • I think now he has an iPad with an app called TouchOSC that he uses in place of/in addition to the Lemur, best I can tell it's doing the same thing.

  • 13 secs of seeing nothing but then suddenly...

  • lol he has the same mouse as me watta gamer

  • Ableton is best program for making music.

  • @Slapdub And you are ignorant

  • I bet tiesto don't understand a fuck of it;-)

  • @JanJoosdt You're kidding, right? Tiesto is *the* DJ - started out as one, production is more of a side-effect. Deadmau5, on the other hand, is more of a producer than a live-performer.

  • @AlexRider001 you're retarded. and really wrong.

  • @mhsaccount Nope. And nope. And you're a troll :-* I love trolls. They're so cute.

  • @JanJoosdt Trust me he does. I understand this.

  • @JanJoosdt I know I don't! LOL

  • He's a geek, but a good one :-)

  • Good work for inventing the word "audiofidelically" (6:44) to avoid having to say "in terms of audio fidelity".

  • song at the begining?

  • He knows his shit

  • music nerd

  • @switchfoot360 A music nerd... who's worth 12million. So, a rich music nerd. I think it's worth it.

  • he reminds me of my teacher, I get lost on the very first thing I don't understand:C

this is the one thing i wish I could understand:/

  • @Girholiday He's doing stuff his own way. It's somewhat complex compared to what is needed, but let me help you. Basically what it all boils down to is, how to recreate live what you produce in the studio. You don't need all the gear he has. All you need is a way to get your tracks divided into loops/bars that you can trigger live. If you are using material already mastered, you're halfway there. Also, use a controller to tweak effects on sequences/loops live and that's your start, right there.

  • I am so lost...

  • I want to understand, but alas I do not

  • Thought you all might like to know - DCAM Synth Squad (the FXpansion synths Joel talks about around 13:00) on sale for £69 / $99 (usually £189/$249) til the end of the year. So if you're looking for a new VSTi or two for Christmas.. the pack includes the synth "Strobe", as namechecked on "For Lack of a Better Name".

  • he really needs to stop smoking i can hear him wheezing between when he talks

  • @officialZreck he has stopped. Quit a few months ago.

  • @RSIproductions oh good! haha

  • thumbs up for the sub standard audio speakers

  • "Exxacctllyyy....."

  • 4:03 = Canadian accent

  • Ableton

  • what is this sequencer??:O

  • @MrBizgentyu it's called a Monome

  • @DEEECKED thanks!

  • I love how, among ALL that expensive and complex tech, he's just got an OPEN bottle of Coke!

    Hahaha!

  • @Wachusay I know, just like how he smokes around his gear too. In one gear he is puffing on a cigarette while he's twiddling around with his modular gear worth thousands of dollars.

  • before his meowski tat!

  • Hate to ask but what is the song playing at the beginning?

  • i didn't get it at 8:06 what compressor isn't done i mean did he make it or something?

  • yes! he uses ableton

  • when the guy asked if the lemur controlled the lights and the mau5head i had to cover my face :'(

  • Everytthing he's saying is going right over my head.

  • I don't like a lot of Deadmau5's music but I really like that a nerd can blow up like he has.

  • this guys got some cool shit. Wonder who hooks him up with those touch pad controls. I'm guessing apple is the hook. He helped program some mixing app that was released on the app store.

    What a computer nerd! Amazing....

  • @DirtyFilthyDubstep The Lemur has absolutely nothing to do with apple, afaik.

  • @realHansen Lemur is now a product of the App Store, although i believe @dirtyfilthydubstep was referring to the Deadmau5 Touch Remix app.

  • Understood 100% of that conversation would love to pick his brain someday. if you like deadmau5 you might like my tracks.

  • @Avizura Spelled your name wrong, look at my other comment

  • @Avisura The only way to really approach it is real life. Find a bar nearby and go from there

  • I like to think i know a lot about electronic music creation and production, but jesus christ, when i listen to deadmau5, there are times when i feel like im 5 years old.

  • 0:54 listen to this guys(so this is the main controler for the lights in the eyes)LOLLLLLLLLLLL

  • Puma is the sponser of deadmau55555

  • logitec G500 mousce<3 we got equipment in commen

  • Camera man is so off in his own world here... never looks at what your explaining haha, thanks for the explanation mau5. Ima play bit more with my plugins :D

  • he uses a MOTU interface

  • anyone else see that blue scribble below the profile pic and above the featured video?

  • Derpmau5: Herp n' stuff

  • what a pro

  • @03chilaquil buy some decks, but i woudn't bother djing is boring as hell, live mixing is much more compelling, but then you need to be able to write music to even get that far.

  • yeh no shit joel

  • what program is that?

  • @MariiRoxx10 Ableton Live.

  • i just really dont understand the way he uses the xone :4d someone can explain that ?( i speak spanish, but i understand english too)

  • Hey I need some help, how do you get really well known on the internet?

I mean, there are a lot of very good artists on the internet, but how do you get popular?

(I have 200 fans on Newgrounds, but yeah, it's nothing compared to deadmau5 xD)

  • sounds all like Chinese to me

  • So Joel...I'm not seeing how this is quite so different from DJing.

  • @InfinityEnterprises

    DJ = Disk Jounkey

Producer greats music and makes something really awesome

  • @TheDJKES Ok my question was, how is Joel's LIVE setup any different from a dj's?

  • @InfinityEnterprises his isnt but the freedom for him to make it more so (like recent sets from him) is there this way. Where as decks restrict you to a certain format.

  • @TheDJKES he's dj

  • @theloopmasta

no he hates when someone says to him dj...

  • i dont know about you guys but all of that seems a tad unneccesary to me, i mean he's awesome and all that but i dont really see how he has this huge ass elaborate setup

  • whats that program at 2:03 ? I have FL but im curious about that one

  • a puma cap? really dude? from a fucking amazing mouse head to a puma cap?

  • @stopdropandance Shut up peace of shit. PUMA is his sponsor

  • @stopdropandance he's a sellout

  • @theloopmasta ur a sellout!! sellout!

  • @stopdropandance Well, he is sponsored by Puma so he gets payed to wear it

  • @stopdropandance He's sponsored by them. :p

  • @stopdropandance u just jelly get ur own signiture thing then talk shit till then say nuthing

  • @stopdropandance he gets paid to wear puma. idiot.

  • @stopdropandance why you hate on puma caps

  • @stopdropandance you do know hes sponsored by puma and he doesnt wear his mau5head every living moment

  • @stopdropandance He's sponsored by them you immature child.

  • @stopdropandance he is kinda partnered with Puma they make custom deadmau5 shoes

  • @stopdropandance he is essentially sponsored by them.

  • @stopdropandance hes always wanted to do gigs without the mau5head as you cant see anything properly in them so he got what he wanted and whenever he doesnt wear a giant mousehead he wears a cap anyway..

  • I sure as hell don't like his music, but I found this very interesting.

  • @AmuseMe543 lol. I was thinking the same thing, altough I've been to one of his gigs..

  • not understanding the second top comment.

  • 1:23 Deadmau5 : "sequences n stuff"

  • stop using vengeance samples!

  • i started OOOT 1:43 .. haha mau5 just kidding im your biggest fan!

  • I clicked 'like' about 5 times

  • Comment removed

  • shows how 'live' his sets are. hes a smart kent when it comes to programming or composing or wateva

  • Somebody watch this video and count how many times he said "You know?"

    That is all.

  • You know? You know? You know?

  • where do you get them light up usb cables :O

  • For those not understanding this, he's saying how he gets his live show to sound good. Sounds to me like he basically runs a dry signal + parallel compression, then a maximizer at the end. He uses a ton of gear, which makes it difficult to sync. He also likes gear that allows him to customize.

  • lol 7 people have no fucking clue what Deadmau5 is talking about xD

  • I just realised the mau5head has no ears o.o

  • Bah.. Just load it into Winamp and press play. XD

  • he sounds soooooo tired

  • how does he have time to think about those things besides playing minecraft

  • i love what he's saying. even though i didn't get A THING

  • I think i will just go with Serato...

  • That's cool,

well i get my instrumentals done at home and them play them in partys.

  • He is not 1 of my favorite dj's however I think he is very talented.. It takes a lot to multitask while you're up there.

  • You can tell he's Canadian when he says, flat out or bust out.

  • Comment removed

  • Lol I have no idea wtf jole is talking about

  • NEW REMIX CONTEST Miles Diego - Disaster Original mix (My PAGE)

  • lol i was typing tht last comment on my broken ipod.

  • hes not a dj so stoo calling him a shame to all dj people cause u oviously dont no carp about djing , djs remix or mash up other peoples songs , djs do not make theyer oen songs so stop calling him a dj .............-_-0

  • I'm 15 , i want to start djing. I might buy a Vestax typhoon. Can anyone recommend anything?

  • I have that same mau5 pad :D

  • Actually i dont find it hard to follow allong at all, just sayin

  • eeerrxactlyy.

  • is it just me or does he say "compressure channel" at 8:04??

  • @Ariboner Yess Man

  • haha I love how complicated his description of sidechaining the tracks with the muted kick drum is

  • God so confusing. I have some many ideas for music but the thing is these programs are so advanced that I can't focus and know where to start ha

  • I have no FUCKING idea what hes talking about and i wish i did

  • Whats the song at the begining?

  • You can't call his set anymore legitament as a live set, he's actually playing live, unlike dj's who pay CDs or records and just play songs at shows. Man that's awsome.

  • Unless your performing live with a giant mouse helmet & no headphones you don't need a crazy setup like this to perform "quality dance music live" DJ!

This setup is probably the only way he can perform live & wear the big mask.

  • GO ABLETON !!

  • God damn this is advanced stuff, I'm having a hard time trying to understand all the knobs in the Propellerhead's Reason interface.

  • @kamratframjandet Hey. I've been using Reason for a while and if you need any help just email me. I'll give you my adress on a PM.

  • i under stan him thumbs up

  • Sorry deadmau5 I love ur music n all but I didn't understand 1 bit of that LOL

  • hhhmmmm.... acceptable by far

  • my brain is getting mad at me right now

  • wanna make music? THIS IS WHAT YOU"RE UP AGAINST!!!!

  • @praxuzftw i believe the Xone 4D is being used as his audio interface
