Perhaps a solid external clean then test, interior clear then test then finally the removal of the board and heatsink. I myself used a can of air on the vents and it disappeared. I say this only to offer the less able a less permanent solution.
I have a 360 that had the RROD. I replaced the X brackets with machine screws and washers and it now has the E74 error. I'll try taking out a set of washers and see if that does the trick. Thanks for the vid and thanks for something different to listen to.

1st after cleaning the gpu and cpu and replacing the heat sinks turn on your xbox and with a heat measurement tool let it get up to 200F or if you don't have one 4 to 5 mins from when you turn it on. no more then 5 mins! solder melting point is 190F

Yeah that duck song blows!!! The reason you keep getting e74 error is because your not melting the solder good enough by overheating the console. Use the reflow technique duh.

I solved my problem more easy(I had 1 red light and e74) ... I just wraped good my xbox with an gelatine like membrane an isolated also I wraped some kitchen clean paper buted it in the deep freez for about 2 hours or maybe more... then I took it off I took off the membrane and I turned horizontaly but upside down (so that the CD would fall if you ejected your drive) but had not CD- I did that so that the water particles that came up would not fall in the mobo
I puted the xbox in the refrigirator (on deep freeze) only to double check if it was a GPU/CPU problem with the fan.. (because theoretically this problem arises because a censor measures high temp on the GPU/CPU and doesnt allow it to boot properly.. thats why the xbox needs cleaning and thermal combount etc to make the cooling system efficient..- but it had a lets say -5 C temp the sensor would react at all because of the low temp
Legit fix.....Easy tear down and quick fix....Only took me an hour from first screw all the way to testing the hdmi. Good job and thanks for the post!!!!
Arctic Silver 5 is actually one of the WORST performing thermal greases in the world. You should use Shin Etsu thermal grease, it's currently the best performing thermal grease. Anything else is just crap in comparison.

How is the person overheating the 360 in this video? Is the GPU heatsink not secured? I replaced gpu thermal grease with AS5 and did the towel trick until the 2 overheat lights came on, but im still getting E74 error.
@phreaktwo Thanks I tried this today but still no luck, Perhaps my 360 has an actual hardware failure but its hard to say, I cleaned the GPU and applied AS5 as well but no luck.
I've revived this 360 in the past from RROD using an Xclamp fix method but this is the first time ive experianced an E74 error.
@73mathesar the towel trick just makes it worse over time, even IF it works you will start having lag and objects in games will rez slowly or fail to and then you will get lines in your screen :D so yeah not a recommended solution
@crazdfoxxproductions Ya ive done the towel trick several times on my 2005 launch unit, it worked everytime but it did get worse over time, the towel trick fixed it for a month at first but then it RROD, did towel trick again and it lasted a few weeks, eventually it was down to 1 or 2 days, However the last thing I did was the Heatgun fix, it's been over 4 months now and not a single RROD. Google search these words: tutorial fix e74 errors ,the 1st result should be from Xbox-scene forums.
you have to do the samething like the video show use the silver artic colling mx4 for the thermal paste and when you did dont conect the fan back just tun it on with out the fan and do the over heat and then wait 20 minutes and conect the fan back and shuld work
@Skiller7777 I ended up fixing it by doing the heatgun gpu fix, solved my e74 error its been 6 months so far no issues (knock on wood). in case anyone else wants to try this google search these words: tutorial e74 no video ,the first result should be from xbox-scene forums, click that one.
@73mathesar There are 2 options with E-74 the less likely one is what he is fixing in this video the more likely option is you have a faulty AV cable (atleast this is what i have read)
sometimes you have to bake it twice because I know I did this fix once and it worked again but 4 days later I got the e 74 again. So I had to do this fix again but it still didn't work, let it sit for a day tried cooking it again and it worked.

This E74 Fix is a temp fix. Your graphics card is bad or going bad you may see distorted pictures or bad coloring on your tv the permanent fix is to install a new gpu on that console

first boot I had was 3 ring sectors and no screen
second boot 1 red ring sector and e74 (i left the xbox running for about 30 minutes)
therd boot 1 red ring-sector and and e 74 ( i left it again running for a while until all the small water particles gone away)
forth boot all ok and playable!!! :D :D :D
P.S ofcourse i clean all the water particles outside the box and on the power connection USB ports controller ports etc before I booted first time.

How is the person overheating the 360 in this video? Is the GPU heatsink not secured? I replaced gpu thermal grease with AS5 and did the towel trick until the 2 overheat lights came on, but im still getting E74 error.

@73mathesar The heatsink was secured, but because theres no fan theres nothing to disperse the heat, thats why it eventually overheats.

@phreaktwo Thanks I tried this today but still no luck, Perhaps my 360 has an actual hardware failure but its hard to say, I cleaned the GPU and applied AS5 as well but no luck.
I've revived this 360 in the past from RROD using an Xclamp fix method but this is the first time ive experianced an E74 error.

@73mathesar the towel trick just makes it worse over time, even IF it works you will start having lag and objects in games will rez slowly or fail to and then you will get lines in your screen :D so yeah not a recommended solution

@crazdfoxxproductions Ya ive done the towel trick several times on my 2005 launch unit, it worked everytime but it did get worse over time, the towel trick fixed it for a month at first but then it RROD, did towel trick again and it lasted a few weeks, eventually it was down to 1 or 2 days, However the last thing I did was the Heatgun fix, it's been over 4 months now and not a single RROD. Google search these words: tutorial fix e74 errors ,the 1st result should be from Xbox-scene forums.

you have to do the samething like the video show use the silver artic colling mx4 for the thermal paste and when you did dont conect the fan back just tun it on with out the fan and do the over heat and then wait 20 minutes and conect the fan back and shuld work

@Skiller7777 I ended up fixing it by doing the heatgun gpu fix, solved my e74 error its been 6 months so far no issues (knock on wood). in case anyone else wants to try this google search these words: tutorial e74 no video ,the first result should be from xbox-scene forums, click that one.

@73mathesar There are 2 options with E-74 the less likely one is what he is fixing in this video the more likely option is you have a faulty AV cable (atleast this is what i have read)

sometimes you have to bake it twice because I know I did this fix once and it worked again but 4 days later I got the e 74 again. So I had to do this fix again but it still didn't work, let it sit for a day tried cooking it again and it worked.

This E74 Fix is a temp fix. Your graphics card is bad or going bad you may see distorted pictures or bad coloring on your tv the permanent fix is to install a new gpu on that console

At least it tells us what the error is and we can actually do something about it. When your gay ps3 fucks up you can't fix it yourself. (see what I'm getting at?) xbox is better because you can probably fix the error if you know what you are doing.

powering up without drive does not cause bans. Have a few xbox's powered without dvd drive and they are fine.
