If you were to kite him in Wotlk he would kill your raid when he enrages, and I think he has a leash (not sure, I just know it isn't possible to kill him like this anymore).
No he wasn't evading, we had hunters/mages kiting him. Other DPS classes would ALT+F4 out of the game to drop threat so mage/hunter will be able to kite him. It took us about an hour to kill him if I remember correctly, couldn't use melee dps or they would just get one shotted.

They fixed this and the other kiting strategies - he starts shooting slime bolts at raid members after 20 seconds of being enraged.

Actually the anti-kite mechanic (Slime-bolts) wasn't added in Wrath, it was added pre-BC about half-way through (old) Naxx' life span.
Although I admit I don't know if he is leashed to the Abomination Wing or not.
