Good music (Roni Size rocks!) In the 1980s MB offered stronger Diesel cars in the US than in Germany. We were never offered a 300CD or a 300SEL which was also popular in the US to my knowledge.
@solimiansky I had One 85 300d was titanium and on black. Sold it with 385mi on it for 5500 bucks lol. ran excellent. and first one an 82 300SD nice but too big.. And it had many mechanical problems. Someone didn't take care of transmission.. too much to replace it and it still never ran right. Poor car. I have had these kind of Diesels in my posssions for 18yrs : \ OIE! Puff Puff!
They made the dash more basic in the Euro versions. Much better than the american versions. Love it. I wish my 240D was stick. But they barely sold sticks here in the states. Good track btw.
@rivermonsoon i might get the 240D with manual :) trying to bargain the owner.. great reliable cars these diesel mercs.. my grandpa has had a couple diesel mercs among which was a -77 300D..
@coolakiIlen007 you should get a good one. As puting together random parts to it can be really costly after a while. It's best to find one in good condition and take care of it better than the previous owner did.. my advise.. put diesel fuel conditioner in everytime you fill it. Works like a charm.
@rivermonsoon ok, the -83 240D im looking at is unfortunatly a long sitter.. we´re charging a battery to put in and test start it, i dont think it will be a problem for it to start.. we´re going to fix the worst parts and things need to be done and i will drive it as long as possible.. i will film it so it will be on youtube probably later this week :)
@coolakiIlen007 Hey.. if it's a project hobby for you.. go for it. Where are you? Cause on the west coast you don't have to find them that out of shape. The one on your channel is barely holding on, but I'm sure it will be excellent when you are done. I've had 4 240Ds.. 77, 79(stick) the 4th one still owning 82(it's money penny. She's perfect.). All others sold for more than I bought.
@hcbotje as you should, they are fabulous cars. I have a 93' W140 500SEL and JUST recently picked up an 88' W124 300TE, the TE needs some work, but I LOVE wagons... good luck with your gorgeous W123!
Mu first car was a model 123 300D. Can you believe how quiet these diesels actually were. i loved that car. I still own a w123 200d that i only drive in the summers. My grandfather bought it new in 1981. It's been in the family ever since and is actually being used as a daily driver by my brother in law.
