Can someone pin point me to the part of the car that is actually beautiful because i can't find it? i am not gonna lie, this car is hideous and cheap looking. I've saw one of these parked beside a proton perdana and there you go, two cheap peas in a pod. The design is not well proportioned, the front is too...ngeh and the back, again, PROTON.

Jeremy Clarkson is right. This is a beautiful car. Why won't anyone buy it and why the hell does it have a bad resale value? If they were available here in America, I want this to be one of my choices for my first car.

I have 166 & an e39 5 series. I think the E39 is beautiful. Alfa's nice particularly in the rear 3/4 view & profile. There's something very appealing about it overall. Double door seals & close panel gaps mean no wind noise. Both have some really rubbish interior fittings. Broken interior ( chrome plastic ) door handles on the BM - broken vents in both. Weirdest problem - 166 consoles dash parts go sticky like wet paint & ruin clothes. All this is just pathetic on supposedly prestige cars.
i drove a 146 (the small hatchback) and the 156 and i rly didnt see the difference between that and a big citroen.... they are a bit... matressy in how they drive, feels disconected

@bassplayer137 : Depreciation is the amount something is worth after a period of time. For instance if a car is worth 10 credits at start of year and 5 credits at the end of the year the depreciation is 5 credits or 50%. The alfa compared to bmw etc depreciate much faster therefore the actual cost of ownership is very high, because u lose money even if u dont drive it, its worth less at the end of the year then the start, it has depreciated in value.

The 3 series in my opinion, is not soo incredible, it has many flaws, like the ordinary, average looks, certainly no match for Giorgetto Giugiaro's Design!, the 'orange peel' finish of the paintwork, the very tight rear headroom for passengers over 6ft like myself and the overall lack of flair, sparkle, sportiness and charisma you find with the Alfa Romeo 159. ive driven alfa. and it tries so much to be a diferent then every other car that it turns out almost unuseable. but it had a sound, it had an acceleration and the look of it... just amazing. me and my friends had a lot of fun with this car, even when it broke down, or couldnt heat up so we were cold inside. so yeah, cars are not reliable nor quality built. but they have personality and sheer silyness of it will make you never forget that car. thats why people love alfa.

Pretty cars but I wished they'd engaged in a JV with Jaguar. It would have been mutually beneficial - Alfa could have had access to RWD technology for mass production and Jaguar could have has access to small engine and emissions technology.
I have a 166 that I've had it coming up on 6 years and love it to bits, its only worth about 2K and I just spent another £1160 on loads of work doing to it.
The only people who hate Alfa's are those who have never owned one, or those people who bought one expecting to run it on the same budget as their Peugeot 406 Diesel and then moaned when things went wrong.

Very few people sell their car a year after they bought it, so Clarksons depreciation a day figure is exaggerated. Why not go further - why doesn't he calculate depreciation f.e. next day after buying a 166? In such case you would get depreciation of a few thousand a day.

As far as Im concerned, this was a better Large Sports Executive Saloon than the BMW 5 series! It's just that buyers generally look at the Badge and Country of Origin not the Car itself! This Car really should have sold alot better in UK! It sold well in Europe!

Pretty cars but I wished they'd engaged in a JV with Jaguar. It would have been mutually beneficial - Alfa could have had access to RWD technology for mass production and Jaguar could have has access to small engine and emissions technology.
Too bad Fiat say Alfa is in trouble....

I have a 166 that I've had it coming up on 6 years and love it to bits, its only worth about 2K and I just spent another £1160 on loads of work doing to it.
The only people who hate Alfa's are those who have never owned one, or those people who bought one expecting to run it on the same budget as their Peugeot 406 Diesel and then moaned when things went wrong.
If you want a car which is "reliable" or apparently "better" go join all the other boring arrogant wankers down at the Audi Garage

Sweedish is the name, and design... only. This is my point of view, and not because of owner of this brands, it's because of parts these cars are made of. These were realy sweedish cars till saab 900 and volvo 940.
TVR is still made of TVR's designed parts.

upon reading the majority of comments for this video, its evident that half the people are americans loving themselves and there corvettes (which are completely out of class and irrelevant to compare with a 166) and only people who actually listen to what jeremy says, or else have personal styles and tastes, they love the 166, a truely elegant and indifferent car, thats the moral people, the 166 is a traditional stereotypical alfa, those beautiful looks, and the indifference, shove it ROOKIES.

Alfa Romeo are great cars, an alfa is all about style, maybe is not good as an AUDI in performance an quality, but alfas had a a special thing, if you are a fan of good and classic cars, you like alfa, Enzo Ferrari starts in Alfa Romeo, those cars are special.

Very few people sell their car a year after they bought it, so Clarksons depreciation a day figure is exaggerated. Why not go further - why doesn't he calculate depreciation f.e. next day after buying a 166? In such case you would get depreciation of a few thousand a day.

Posting times at the Nur is a mild publicity stunt and not all the manufacturers put in the effort to post a top time there. The 3 cars you named are remarkable cars but just because they have the top production times at the Nur does not put them anywhere near the best production cars regardless of class and price.
