guys ,I have been to Turkey for four times now,and going this summer ,I just love Turkey.I am from Egypt and Live in Dubai ,but I adore your country .I love ittttttttttttt
may i can comment here something as a former tourist. The greeks are right. The turkish guide never mentioned that this is greek heritage. He never said the word ancient greek, but anatolian.Somebody who doesn't know history well get confused. That's a mistake from your side.Telling the historical truth is not bad.
I want to say it's your unluck..Because i am into the tourism events here and never coincide such a terrible guide..But have you even visited Ephesus?Or you were here just for sea sun fun tourism?
yes i visited many places in turkey,i went for cultural holidays cause sea and sun and fun i have in france (home)as well.
Guys you should take care about your guides in many places cause many people know historic facts.A reason why i prefer to visit other countries is that they are not denying their heritage. This is sad very sad for you in turkey.I wrote a letter to the tourism agency of france and many others as well. This is world heritage ,denying the facts is lying about world history!!!!
but i still cant understand how your idiot guide didnt tell anything about the heritage of he city by not seeing the marks of Greek presence since the ancient times. And havent you ever seen an antique city in the borders of Turkey?
I can accept unconscious for majority of Turkish people, but as state, they really care about this because over all, they are historical worths and definitely contribute to Turkey's image and tourism anyway. And for example Ephesus has been digged for more than a century also Turkey intentionally appoint an Austrian excavation chief to lead the other Turkish archaeologists
no you underestood wrong.did you see sth i am saying these are Turkish ruins?of course they are ancient Greek cities. And we have been digging them since 1870s.yes,since 1870s.And they are saved well. They are important for us as much as you.Because ancient ruins a part of Turkey's tourism. You know ephesus..And when you meet a travel guide in Turkey, that wil inform you about Greek and Roman ancient cities. We dont show them as ourselves. And one more thing.
I don't like the way that Turks, attract, with these kind of videos, by showing Greek lands and monuments,as they are Turkish.Especially for Smyrna, which history is so bloody written in very recent times (Destruction of Smyrna in 1922 and massacre of Greeks and Armenians)
I don't like it when they say,Those lands wasn't Ionian Greek(They even call Greece Yunanistan, from Ionia),but they say with egoism that they are Phrygian,Pamphilian etc.
Greeks were living 5000 years there, till Mongols came..
no you are extremely wrong and have prejudices about Turks. You shouldnt have a look at anywhere about Turkey's touristic attractions even once..Because ıf you looked, you would see what is written there. We of course tell these are ancient Greece cities,Roman cities,Likian cities etc. What a pity you dont know anything. Also pray for Turk because we have been digging those cities since 1880s.But what did Greeks do?You destructed all Ottoman Turkish ruins around Salonica and Thessaly,Western Thrace..
About that "very recent times", we should also mention the great fire as well then. When they were no longer able to control the city, Greek soldiers set it on fire! Which destroyed most of the city where "they were living for 5000 years" according to your claim. We can post
About that "very recent times", we should also mention the great fire as well then. When they were no longer able to control the city, Greek soldiers set it on fire! Which destroyed most of the city where "they were living for 5000 years" according to your claim. We can post comments here for days but the fact is no one is "pure white"!
ok,i wont take my time anymore with answering to you.i have more important works instead of answering to racists.however, what i say,u wont care..but know that everybody knows Turkey and nobody let you slander, even Eu!
what about tryings to bomb Ataturk's house in Salonica by Greek holigans?what about external powers on Turkey by provocations of Ortodoxs against Catholigs and Catholigs against Ortodox. They use Some Turkish people for their aims.Stranger people who go to Trabzon for each year shows this clearly.
why dont you ask it Eu and Olli Rehn?behind 400years..whahha!although you are in Eu,whta changes?Western Thrace Turks still cant choose their religious leader, cant open their schools and they are without rights unlike Ortodox Greeks, but in Turkey, everybody is free.Look,Patriarchate has been saved by Turks since the day we conquested İstanbul and they can choose their patriarch fereeely.your words mean nothing!
yeh mate but what a FREE country is turkey when it depends on greek livin in konstantinoupoli/istanbul? uve ever asked urself why only 2000 greeks r living in istanbul in present days? actually greeks got smashed out their cities...and what about speaking greek in turkey? i remember tellings of people who lived in turkey in the past...if they talked greek they immediatelly got in prison because of other reasons!
if the Greatest Ortodoxy Patriarchate exists there, thank us!also who got smashed out of the istanbul?the reason that Greek went out is the political issues between Greece and Turkey.what about the Western Thracen Turks?while there are Greek schools, corporations here,u doesnt allow them to choose their own religious official,to ıopen their schools.and today if Eu doesnt exists,Greece would send them through illegal ways to Turkey.
and why have the ottomans changed agia sophia into a mosque and claim it as their wonderfulest mosque all over turkey although not 1 stone moved by ottoman hands had been moved to built the basic agia sophia!
already u dont give them any right.About talking Greek, nothing happened like that.the news' sources is right because there are Greek language faculties in Turkey!if i go on to talk,it will never end.
well but u have to remember that these were actually greek lands before osman conquered it! additionally i can tell u that u can find over 100 mosques in greece for greek or turkish moslems! and explain me why u cant find greek shops anymore in istanbul or izmir? dont take me wrong but there was an longer period of the german ''reichskristallnacht'' in turkish execution over 200 years! ottoman forced greeks to close their shops and to forget their greek beeing!
They wer not Greek lands, but Lycian, Mysian, Phrygian, Isaurian, Carian, Luwian etc. Greek language dispersed there with Greek colonists and Macedonian conquest exactly as Turkish was promoted by Ottomans. Local people are still carrying on ancient traditions (construction, carpets etc) whitch come from Bronze Age or Neolithic, regardless to what language do they speak in present.
well, but greeks had made a major distribution in orient carpets! u ever heard something of the carpet style smyrna? u forgot to mention the pre-greeks who where living in the asian minor, the Ionians! nevermind i dont want to argue here....we already have argued enough! TIME FOR PEACE!
I haven't forgotten Ionian's. There were Aeolia'ns & others, but how does it improve our present day, when we study history only to justify our anger and prejudgments.
P.S! I'm no Turk nor Greek. I'm just interested in the both countries.
Turks today are Balkan-mediterrenean origins that has the genetical offsprings of ancient Hittites, Trojans, Ionians ,Aeolians Byzantino-Ottomans & more , this has been proven by dna researches around the world. But years of ancient bickering between turks & greeks, avoided anatolian turks to really embrace their heritage.
hey im cypriot, and would love to research anything that may suggest that i may dna wise anyay descend from a ancient group of people, im interested could you enlighten me please on this research im it won't be too much??
I would love to assist you. I searched many dna studies, like Stanford University of US & many others. There is no question that today's Thracian-Anatolian people's important percentage are linked to ancient Anatolian -Mediterrenean civilizations.
thanks, would you say that cypriots would have also descended from anatolia? or are we from the neolithic peoples that were already there? i have turkish cypriot and greek cypriot blood and have drk features like hair, eyes and even dark tanned skin, would u say that would be a anatolian trait and if so what peoples of anatolia would u say?
Anatolian people have lighter skin in Northern Anatolia & Western Anatolia, but there are many exceptions, as well. In the east & south it gets darker. In Northern Greece, you can find lighter skin people, other parts darker & tanned skin are more common.
Even though, there is some ancient neolithic link in some Cypriots to Cyprus, many of them arrived from Mother Land Anatolia & Greece or orient, like Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine in ancient times, as well. Cyprus is a melting pot of neighboring regions, since ancient times
As a turkish citizen, I can say to you that Anatolian turks are oblivious to ancient extremely glorious heritage. Nevertheless Turks & Greeks are siblings.
These issues are avoided both in Turkey & Greece today
yes,so Eu accepted us to join(we are having normal process so we are in Nato,so America shouts Turkey is one of the greatest friends of us.Look dear, your way doesnt bring anything, leave that and try to be peaceful, against wars and hatred. Also so Istanbul was chosen Cultural central city of Europe for 2010 and so all economists say that Turkey's economy is developing so rapidly even more rapidly that we can imagine..
also with very very high probability,u didnt read objevtive history books, even my Greek friends accept that there are some mistaken informations in Greece's history books,so we ll never forget raped woman, killed children, and all killed people by Greeks. But this is not a block to create the way of peace between us.
what a pity to you that u will never try to learn the facts. How can be a city renamed?Even B.C.,it was called Smyrna and we Turks call it İzmir, have u ever thought why?when tHe Turks conquered the city,we couldn't pronounce it as smyrna because in turkish language's rules, that's is impossible to pronounce so firstly they pronounced ismirna and in the time,it returned ismirna, ismirne, yezmir and izmir finally, can't be that a natural period of a name in the history?
