@MrJuha82 Jan Boklöv is a 1988-89 World Cuo winner and most known for inventing V-style i remeber him to make a huge jumps and judges given him a law marks becausethe style was unknown and uncorret back there, after him the V-style has been the standart among ski jumpers.
@aleksandrpondios Actually winning a World Cup is a big title because it tells a lot of your goodness !!! (= in WCG or Olympics there is possible for some surprise even but World Cup or Ski Hill Tournament tells more of your goodness. On the other hand mentally best guys succees well in WCG or Olympic Games though....not easy to judge.
@MrJuha82 Andreas Goldberger instead Boklov? The first 5 is ok,may be i would puted them in another line.I have to thinke about the all time greatest because i am watching Ski Jumping from 1984.Norvigean Birger Ruud was a legend, won the olympic gold in 1932 and 1936 and silver in 1948.
@aleksandrpondios i missed Goldie, off Boklov from the list but Boklöv definetely was talented guy. Btw i am from Finland and i have a relative though in the Sweden but its very very very very very old family. My mothers fathers sisters last name was Lång and she told for his childs and childs's childs that some old man from Sweden who had that Lång name makes a childrens with Finnish woman. It was a time when Sweden Governed a Finland, very old history (=
@MrJuha82 I am from Greece(my mother is russian, that is why i like winter sports),i guess that you are from Finland, because you have so many Finnish in your list:))))).Matti was the best one,i know now he got some trouble with a law.
@aleksandrpondios Hakulinen won Olympic Gold in the past, Ahonen have great career. Puikkonwn was very great too early of his career but he won later World Champion Gold(1989). There is no any ski jumper from Greece )= , is there any big hills ?, that peoples could to start training a Ski Jump. Athletics from Greece are great ones (=. Actually i was earlier a Sprinter.
@MrJuha82 Sure not from any ski jumper Greece:))))))(it would be even worse than Eddie the Eagle),even Russia is not so good in Ski Jumping,Jari have the place among greatest,we did forget Andreas Felder and may be Martin Schmitt and Sven Hannawald.Martin was dominated before he got injured
@aleksandrpondios Hannawalds and Schmitts periods were so short ones that we shouldnt compare their career to Nykänens, Malyzhs, Puikkonens and Ahonen's etch because those guys were always great. Schmitt ave been down more or less middle and late of his career but elite jumper either. Hannawald career cutted way shortly ): he suffered a Depression, also i have depression because taking a sport too seriously )=
Not nice to wake up my head heavy. Schmitt is my favourite jumpeer!
Something that has always got me wondering. How do they get to the top of the hill?Is there a lift,or do they have to climb heaps of stairs? How do start out in this sport? If I were a parent I wouldn't let my kid anywhere near a ski jump.Obviously you need to a certain body type, but do they send you down a tiny flat angled jump.Crashes in this sport must be near fatal.
@laiosto Most hills today has a chairlift like you would find in alpine skiing hills. Either all the way to the top, or to the bottom of the tower. This is because some take off-ramps are elevated above ground, like in this video from Lahti, Finland. The towers then usually have a normal elevator to ferry people to the top. If the chairlift is not present you have to walk the bottom part, or drive, which is probably more likely. Regardless, you have to anticipate climbing some stairs.
@kJell01 When starting out in skijumping you don't start in these hills, but far smaller ones, where you can jump around 10-15 meters. As you, and your confidence, grows you can move to larger hills. The world record ski jump is currently 246.5 meters, set in the Vikersund Hill in Norway, by Norwegian jumper Johan Remen Evensen. Crashes in ski jumping does occur, either by tumbling in air, or falling after landing. I do not know of any fatal crashes, but do not take my word for it.
@kJell01 There has been quite serious injuries though, especially back injuries are dangerous. Despite the use of crash helmets, head injuries also occurs, along with the danger of breaking bones and tendons. Still, ski jumping is not an overly dangerous sport, and the amount of injuries is not alarmingly high.
@kJell01 Cheers, thanks for the information,I used to do Olympic Weightlifting when younger and people used to look in horror when one of the lifts go wrong, but like you say serious injuries are rare.Still Ski jumping is one of my favourite sports, but only as a spectator.Old Matti, and my other favourite downhill racer Pirmin Zurbriggen were on late at night here in Australia and gave me many heartstopping moments watching them compete.
