  • the problem isn't the game developers or the consumers.. its gamestop, the way they're an extremely greedy middle man, and their existence has put a strain on the consumers and the developers, and even the gaming magazine industry.. its the way gamestop does business that is making things good for them but bad for everyone else

  • Ur completely right about everything, I have this game, I liked it a lot and I don't see any problem on it even the save data isn't a problem since I bought this game, and since u guys bought this game, u should be responsable for that cuz u bought it by urself.

  • It's Gamestop's fault for giving you 5 dollars for a game that's been out for a week and putting it back on the shelf for 55 dollars.

  • (didn't have enough characters in my previous response...)

Just wanted to add that from what I can tell, companies are trying to fix a problem that either doesn't exist or can't be fixed (depending on which side your on).

  • Makes no sense to me whatsoever. Game companies aren't boarding up their windows because of used video games sales, they're just not raking in as much as they could be if no one bought used games. (just not gonna happen) They want more money. Not a bad thing, after all it's a business. So they come up with little tactic to try to cut their 'loss' and end up causing a stir and have loyal fans boycott their wares and end up in worse sales shape (probably) they were in to begin with.

  • The main complaint that publishers have about used game sales revolves around the cost to develop games for current generation systems and how much more expensive it is versus last generation.

IMHO, they should have expected this leap in technology as well as the drastic change in development costs. I think the whole debate about used game sales is simply very poor planning/forecasting on the part of game publishers.

Exception goes to the very small publishers.

  • You can't own a 3DS your poor

  • if they make enough copies and make them more affordable i'll start buying new. I like unlocking things in games and then deleting the file and then unlocking again because I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and progress. I think this is really dumb design decision from capcom. just my opinion

  • I agree with supporting small gaming business by buying new games. However, capcom is already on everybody shit list due to the cancellation of megaman legends 3 and mega man universe. Capcom being a big game business is not hurting on sales which is completely wrong on their part. The costumer should have the choice to delete their file if they want to even if it is a arcade style game.

  • wow, i am really shocked that you agree that capcom should keep riping us off again and again, capcom love to rip us off with the street fighter series, sony, EA, thq, and soon others are using the psn pass to make us pay again, i am sorry i don't agree with their practices, we give them enough of our money and they treat us unfairly, today we already pay for half of a game and the rest is locked off and sold to us as dlc, do you agree with that too?

  • Also if they do this save lock mechanism reduce prices to 30 cuz that benefits companies and the gamers cuz now it's just win lose situation were losing

  • It does kinda of suck cuz I mostly play adventure games and me and my bro like the same games so we can both play are own save files but now we can't we both have to pay 40 bucks each for just a game which sucks. Sony started this with there digital download stuff I'm starting to stop buying there products due to greediness

  • i hate gamestop and their trade-ins, but as a collector, i hope they're always around

  • I personally don't really like buying used video games but sometimes I have no choice, like you said.

  • I think RE: the Mercs 3D got bad reviews and the such not only because people were bashing the save feature (which I don't care since this is an arcade style game with no story), but the nerve to charge full retail 40 dollars for a MINI GAME found of RE4 and 5. And on top of that Mercs is not a game for everyone to begin with.

  • Blame GameStop also for trying to rape consumers selling a ''used'' game for $5 less than a new game of the same title.

  • To hear game companies are trying to stop or reduce used game sales upset me. I understand where they are coming from, but I don't have the money to pay for games that are $40 and up. I'm not much of a gamer, I admit, but I'm a cheap buyer. If they lowered the costs a little bit then we wouldn't have a problem. As for Gamestop, I don't shop there as much as I used to, mostly I go to used game stores to buy what interests me. Or maybe I just don't make sense or count since I'm a casual gamer?

  • If there is a used game out there, that means that the company has already benefited from that game. At one time a used game must have been a new game.

  • nintendokid18 why would you want to start a new game in RE Mercenaries 3D there no story dumbass

  • The worst thing about this is that it kills re playability completely. You want to replay RE Mercenaries 3DS? Too fucking bad, buy another copy.

  • Most of my collection consists of used games-I have bought some new, and if I am in a rush to get it I will buy it new. Unfortunately I dont have the money to keep buying new games, and I clean apartments to have my own money for my games. If I couldn't buy used games I think I wouldn't buy the consoles-so Nintendo ect would miss out as I am not the only person in this situation. The res game have a no delete save slot is a pain what if you want to replay!

  • I have blogged extensively about this. I see both sides, but I still think this is a bad trend. I have to buy used because I can't afford to get everything new, so I don't like that I'm forced to pay extra or the functionality is limited in some way. I see the other side as well, but as a consumer, it just makes games more cost-prohibitive for me.

  • It's a complicated subject, but apply this 'one unique user pr. game' concept to retro gaming; I would be quite frustrated if I couldn't buy old SNES classics etc on ebay because the game is only playable on the original buyers personal system. That said however I am all for stopping Gamestop's (GS) strategy buying and selling used games. The amount GS earns from selling used games is ridicoulous. I'm not a fan EA's online pass but at least it's open to second hand sale and supports the company.

  • Capcom needs to know that we can't return new video games!

  • I can't afford to buy new games all the time... I only ever buy games new if Iit's a game i really really want e.g ocarina of time 3D

I just can't afford. Being a student I'm not going to have a lot of money

  • I love the Resident Evil series and I think that Mercenaries mode is alright. I don't think that it is worth $40 and will definitely wait until it comes down well below that amount. I also am pretty upset about the save file issue. What if I wanted to start over from scratch even after buying a brand new copy? I'd have to buy an entire new game. That just seems ridiculous to me. These are my opinions and you can take them as you will. Thank you @StephsTooDef for addressing this issue.

  • Im a little disappointed in Capcom, however, think about it, Resident Evil wouldnt be around today if everyone bought a used copy.

  • @RazzerSharpWorld Fair enough.

  • Ya i don't like mercenaries mode. As much as i hate the idea, i think its good to stop used game sales. Stop gamestop from banking off used sales. Tired of walking into a gamestop and hearing about there trade in program and bring in your used games when you come pick up your preorder or something of that nature. I wasn't going to pick this game up due to the fact its mercenaries mode. Love resident evil for its story based games. I hate time limited based games =D

  • @ElitePWNSFace I'm not sure about stopping used game sales but I'm with you on bringing down Gamestop. They are so shady with their antics.

  • If you buy a game and then don't like it, I think you should have the right to trade it in. The pressure should be on the developers to make games so good and absorbing that you don't want to trade them in. It could lead to a lowering of the standard of games they produce. I am against this.

  • I've heard this crap before. Don't buy into this mentality Steph and don't feel guilty because you are getting a bargain on a used game. The middle class is getting squeezed to death these past few decades. Take the breaks and exploit the alternatives as best you can. Having made that recommendation I must footnote that I never do ROM's or buy from pirates as these are clearly copied material and is like stealing from the developer.

  • in australia, this is absolutely horrible. new 3ds games usually retail for $80 in australia, and stay there for about a year (unless they are shovelware). this is even worse for 360/ps3/wii games which retail for $110 new.

  • They need to realize that if you create a good game, and people trade it around it becomes more popular because people are easier to get. That way say you release and game of the same series more people will buy it new.

  • My biggest problem with games that become unusable after being used is that its not possible to get them 10 years later and play them like they are being played for the first time.

  • The future of used games is Amazon. I least for me because I sell them there and make some good profit, but I'm happy just to sell it off and have room in my game collection for more.

But, I think it's wrong to sell an rare game for $100.00. That is too crazy to me and I'm not changing my mind anytime soon.

  • If I can't buy used games, I won't be able to afford most games that come out. I'm a hardcore gamer myself, but come on, the producers are going to hurt and shrink the industry.

  • It isn't proven, but it isn't unreasonable to assume that the people who bought the game new were in fact the same people who bought its predecessor used. i.e. if someone's buys a game used, they are then more likely to buy its sequel brand new. If the used game market wasn't around like it is now, it's possible those people may never have played the first game at all.

  • Even if you do buy the game new, you can't restart your progress if you want to (depending on if it is is just one unremovable save file, if there is multiple you can but you are still limited to what you can do with a game you bought legitimately). Whether or not used games help publishers is debatable. Jim Sterling made an interesting point in the most recent podtoid: the first Crackdown game sold most of its copies used, yet the sequel sold most of its copies new.

  • Well, I think the type of game is kinda irrelevant when you look at the bigger picture. Online codes aren't really comparable since all you have to do is buy the code afterwards. You can't pay to erase your save file, and that means if you buy the game used you run the risk of buying a game which already has the majority of weapons unlocked and someone else's high scores in there. Some people might think that's a good thing, but for others it almost defeats the purpose of the game.

  • if they was no used games i would shed a tea not only is it a good way to recycle your games but im a cheap bastard and hate paying full price if i can avoid it lol

  • I think that supporting this kind of strategy is a bad precedent. There are tons of really good games out there that are as or more worthy of our time and if people boycott this one it sends a message to the industry.

It pains me to see this kind of money making strategy. It used to be about the games. Now they recycle the same games and still think we rob them.

This attitudes in the long run hurt the industry, but corporate suits are highly motivated for quick easy profit.

  • Stopping the sale of used video games will just push people to pirating. I know I can't afford to go out and buy every new game...most of my money is spent on reduced or used games.

  • So all in all I love the gameplay, the game itself is good if you like Mercs, but overall it's going to screw those of us who sell used games over.

  • I love the gameplay...Just got it yesterday. Was always a big Mercenaries fan in RE4 and 5, but I do have to agree with some people that it's aggravating. Yes, the company is strategizing, but for those of us who sell used games it screws us over. I buy used from time to time, but I like to be able to sell my old ones that I've completed 100% and put the store credit towards a new game. Capcom's strategy basically ruins this. And now other major companies will probably do the same.

  • How was the Pilot gameplay of RE: Revelations, Steph?

  • what will happen if you do delete the saved file?

  • Guess we better get rid of used cars and houses as well. Greed is ruining everything in the world today. Gaming today is a joke. I sold my piece of shit 360 yesterday and my PS3 will be next if this stuff continues.

  • I did a bit of digging, and while I agree this is a bogus move, it's not as bad as it sounds. The game save consists of high score data and a few unlockables. Other than that, there is absolutely nothing that prevents this from being sold used. A second hand consumer will still be able to play the game in its entirety w/ the exception of unlockables in the case that they are already unlocked. It's lame, but it's not a lockout.

  • Oh, and companies like EA are definitely the ones being selfish.

  • I recycle and like to give used games a new home. :) But I understand the desire to support your favorite publishers by buying their products and that is exactly why I don't download things illegally or emulate. If a game used is only a couple dollars cheaper than a new copy I will probably just get a new copy because supporting the developers I like is good for me too. With gaming going digital we won't be seeing used copies for future games. Which means we won't be able to find them cheap.

  • If it's not possible to erase the save file, what happens if you want to play the game all over from the beginning?

  • @windsofhell The game is mission based and basically has a score attack mode. All you have to do is just replay the missions over again.

  • Damn, i don't blame capcom because all the data issue, i blame them because they didn't include Leon S. Kennedy!!. Now that is so sad and horrible, son..

  • @christianaso90 I would have loved Leon in this game.

  • Personally I only buy games new for 2 reasons, if its one of the handful of games that I must play right away or if it is a collectors edition of a game that I want since they always seam to go up in price if you want to buy them later. Otherwise I usually go for used because $50-$60 is way too much for a video game especially considering most games are less then 10 hours these days, I just dont see the bang for your buck feature these days with games being so short.

  • Mercenaries mode has really no replay value except for unlocking the little items you can. There aren't many levels also. Capcom is being selfish. They made critically acclaimed games like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Mega Man, Okami, and the list goes on. With the EA codes, Gamestop prices used games with online codes $15 less than the price of that game new. These big name companies are just being greedy.

  • Interesting thought, but I disagree. It's the producers that are selfish. We pay enough for a brand new game, if they would lower the prices, I would be able to buy all those games without buying a used game now and then. And if Capcom starts with this, the other producers are going to follow, and where will we end then?

  • @vcfreek I understand. As I said Capcom is just following along with other companies that are trying to stop used game sales. I'm not sure what will happen in the future but I have a feeling we are going to be seeing a lot more of these types of situations.

  • Why do the game industry think theyre better than everyone else? Imagine buying a used car that is limited to 30mph unless you pay the manufacturer again to get the most out of your car. Imagine buying a used book where half the text becomes illegible unless you pay the publisher again. Look at EA's profits ffs theyre not exactly struggling. It's just greed plain and simple. £40 or $60 is already ridiculous price for the majority of the crap thats being released.

  • @TheHornyHomunculus Oh I agree, but this particular situation doesn't prevent you from getting the most out of the game. I would love to see the prices of games lower but I honestly don't think that will happen soon. I appreciate those titles that are budget games that end up being just as good as the $60 big named games.

  • @StephsTooDef Yeah i know it just made me angry lol. Had to have a rant.

  • honestly consumers shouldn't have to pay $60 for a brand new game that we might only play a couple times, it just doesn't make sense so i see why people would buy used games because they work and they are cheaper than the full price new games

  • If this is what they need to do to keep the gaming scene going then i'm all for it

  • You seem a lil mad in this video!! Kinda hilarious! LOL

  • @StormCloudReigns Naw....never that. Its just annoying the amount of negativity is coming from this and it's not even setting the trend when it comes to taking steps in trying to stop used game sales. Don't be laughing :-P

  • One man's rubbish is another man's treasure, buying used games is not a bad thing especially if you don't feel that a full price game can be justified (depending on the reviews and it's level of content).

Trading in used games allows us to put that money towards buying the latest titles we cannot wait to play. Therefore the consumer gets their games cheaper, the game shops make more sales and the game developers sell more games. Everyones a winner.

  • you can delete the if you have the ds 3ds card reader

  • @pokefan6085 ....what's that?

  • Out of all the games i own i only own one used game it the only reason why i have it used and not new is because i could not find it any where it was heavy rain for ps3 i really wanted to support the company because i love the game and not had to support game stop

  • I buy used video games online not from gamestop because its only like 5 bucks less but this one save file thing doesnt the 3ds have a,sd card for storing data

  • Yeah the game company lose money on used games. But now and then I have about 9-10 games that I realize that I will never ever play again. Then i think it's better to sell them and let somebody else play them. Or am I suppose to just throw them away and nobody at all will ever be able to play them games?

  • @awesomemusicandgames I feel the same way.

  • PRODUCERS are being selfish. No reason at all to not be able to play a used game that the company has already been paid for. The whole situation smacks of an over-zealous lawyer.

Please go see reviewtechusa's vid on this. Also he has a GREAT channel and I hope you like what you see. He hit the nail on the head as far as the resale of used games go.

  • @nathanallan1 I go check out those videos.

  • The game has gotten a bad rap, because it's a rip-off. 40 dollars for a bonus game? Capcom says we should think of it as a fighting game, but what fighting game only comes with 8 characters? BlazBlue? C'mon! If this game was a full-fledged game the fact it only has one save file would be a moot point. Capcom= the King of Nickeling and Diming. Boo them.

  • This isn't about the game itself or anything in it. It's about the principle of the fact that the save data prevents someone to start from scratch. This and "online pass" crap is just an attempt by these companies to prevent us from having the choice of how and where we can buy the games we want. It's BS and you sound like an apologist for these strategies. If you care about this hobby you'll join us in taking a stand against these practices.

  • i sympathize with developers because i know how much work goes into what they do, but i feel this could ultimately hurt them. ill buy a used game because i cant consistently afford new games and if its a series i love or a developer i trust, i will buy their other games new, in the future. i wont be able to if trying out a new company costs me $60. you cant get used pc games in stores and as a result i buy maybe 1 per year

  • I refuse to send Mario Sonic and Zelda to collage or on summer vacation on my dollar These are Billion dollar companies and they are ready to suck the blood out of everyone THANK GOD FOR USED AND RENTAL and if it get bad enough Im perpared to break out a old console Atari 2600 or The old Pong system

  • If you paying $65 every tues or when a new title is released your a fool And what EA is is doing is a total rip off I bought need 4 speed hot pursuit used and couldnt play online I was so heated and no i didnt go and spend the extra 10 bucks i played single player So these companies gonna punish you if you by it 3 months after its release Mario is not getting another penny outta me

  • Ummmm wow i never knew about any the stuff you just talked about. I didnt know Companys really cared about used game prices. But damn did they only have to make 1 save file that cant be deleted? Ugghhh Capcom lost points in my book.

  • wow capcom

  • Although I don't really like used games from Gamestop, I have found some very collectable used games from other local stores that I could have never found anywhere else. But yeah... gamestop charging $45 for a used game that you can get for $50 brand new is truly a ripoff in my opinion.

  • This is a clear case of greed on the part of game publishers. The game that is being sold as "used" was already bought "new" at one point. So game publishers are griping about not being able to charge twice for the same piece of merchandise. I'm actually really surprised that automobile manufactures haven't tried this with used car sales.

  • I'm fine with it since it's a score based game, but if this becomes a trend I might boycott Capcom games in general.

  • as for that one saved file that you can't delete it I think that is messed up

  • I dont mind buying used, or new but I'm not spending 60 bucks on a game that is worth 40 or 20 bucks so yeah. I think that there should be used games sales because some people can't aford 60 bucks a game every month

  • If this type of monstrosity continues

There will be another video game crash

    Just Sayin

  • U guys are saying that this is a huge problem and its not. Just like steph said. Capcom isnt the first to do it. This has happened before. Capcom Is the first major developer to do so. Also ppl saying that's why I'm not buying a 3DS, not every game is going to be like this. Just one developer for one game that I recommend u skip anyway and not just because of the saving issue. Please don't be an ignorant gamer

  • Isn't the mercenaries mode mostly linear? Why bother with not being able to delete saves anyway? Even if the game had the ability to delete saves, it's not like you would go back for replayability or people buying it used would be bummed out by the easily unlocked content.

And before anyone say anything, I doubt Capcom would continue with this move anyway since people are complaining about this.

  • What about when a game gets old and the games publisher stops manufacturing copies of the game? How are people supposed to get their hands on the game then? Imagine if Nintendo pulled this kinda shit back in day, we would have land fills full of NES titles that are useless to everybody. I think this is just some greedy bullshit.

  • @ArtVandalay1984 I don't think the companies would care since their product is off the market and therefore unable to profit from them.

  • @StephsTooDef Used games need to stop, and these game developers should really release more copies of a game.

  • I hate this new trend. I should be able to sell something that is my property. Nike do not benifit from me buying shoes at Value Village yet they are doing just fine. Buying and selling used items has been around forever. What if I buy a game and down the road I decide I don't want it anymore? Better that game ends up in the hands of someone else who will play it and like it than a goddamn land fill! I don't want to be stuck with every fucking video game purchase I make.

  • so i guess you dont like to download haha

  • SBP

  • The problem for game companies with used sales is the bottom line. If a game sells 50 copies and 40 of them are used sales, the game company is only getting profit on 10 sales. I want child of eden, but I am not willing to pay 49 for it, so I am waiting for it to go used, and since I am a PUR member, that's another 10% off and if I use my points, I can deepen my discount. It sucks for gamers, but I can't really blame the game companies, they are in this industry for profit after all.

  • whats crazy is when you walk into a gamestop they practically harass the hell out of you to get you to buy a game used after you've told them five times you want it new. After the second time saying I want the game new and they still ask me if I want it used I just walk out the store but I mostly shop from amazon anyway. I remember one guy got mad because I told him I didn't want used because of the reason being discussed in this video I told him its not a secret anymore about the used games

  • Umm...if you buy this game you are telling Capcom that it is ALRIGHT what they are doing with having one save file. Now I don't have a 3DS or care about ever getting one but I am shocked by this tactic. There have been used games out there for years. Why is this a problem now? Also, some games as you say go out of print and are impossible to buy new.

What is to say that Capcom won't use this save file tactic on a game that is story driven? Think about that a bit.

  • lmao this will suck ass

  • I want to play this game, can you make a review on the game steph? :)

  • i got really mad i bought raindow six vegas used and it doesnt work at all

  • TAKERS BLUE RAY KEWL MOVIE

  • There are used cars, used books, used movies, used appliances, and used clothes. Other then food, you can buy anything used. I have never heard of a author complaining about used books or a car manufacturer complaining about used cars. These companies need to understand that.

I Think Rich from Review Tech USA said it best, If you are going to be against used games then you have to be against used everything.

  • I don't have a problem with used games since those are usually more affordable for me, but I don't think I'd like the one save file esp. if it can't be deleted.

  • i think publishers etc, should target gamestops, gamestations, game uk etc etc. not the consumer, the cheaper option is always going to be thr right way around things,so has $60-£40 for new game every week? not alot of people. the industry doesnt benefit from used games, but we consumers thrive on bargains and 2nd copys. Target them, not us,they should be viable for a loyalty fee, just like music. I know it could never happn, because traders an general sellers would be breaking "a law" its a shame, realy

  • I work @ GStop and I try to purchase new games myself but it's hard and I get a discount. Without used sales we would not be able to accept trades and I hardly ever sell a new game without a trade in towards it. Without the used sales the new sales would suffer very much. I think the solution is cheaper prices on new games!

  • EA lied about that i bought Medal of honar like 2 months ago and not trouble with online idk if im lucky but i can keep playing online.

  • Comment removed

  • You are my favorite youtuber :D

  • I like your views on this issue.

I think that the industry today needs to rely on new game sells but can not shun or nay say used game sells.

Shunning and telling us consumers no you cant not play our game after your paid for it used is a slap in the face to the consumer and your right if there is no story line in such a game why should we care about it.

The way i look at it is if i dont have to do all the work to unlock jill or some other person in the game why should i cry about it.

  • Well just a heads up Steph, I read the store informer at my job today and starting today. Gamestop will be accepting trade-ins on Mercenaries 3D again after they evaluated the game and situation.

  • hmmmm rthe consumers money hungrey or the corporations, yea thats a head scrathcer, lol, listen ppl, the only way we let our voice b heard is thro game sales, i will no longer buy any ea products till they stop there nazist control on their products, now i can add capcom to the list, if enough ppl boycott the companies they will have no choice but break under the pressure, but we must do it together.

  • ALSO what about the next generation of gamers?!?! When these games are no longer in print how will the next generation of gamers buy these games new? and that means these gamers wont be able to play a whole lot of games due to these companies selfishness!!!!!! GRAURGH THIS MAKES ME FRUSTRATED!

  • If you cant delete the game file, then what if you want to play it from the start again? that is the stupidest thing ive ever heard. I buy used games sometimes because im short on cash and CANT AFFORD BRAND SPANKING NEW! If the used game market dies, my income of games practically dies with it......and since video games are sorta my passion/interest that would probably make a little part of me die inside......

  • Capcom's strategy seems backward. In there attempt to gain more revenue they are taking away one of the most important aspects of gaming - replay value. In relation to the pricing of games, I think a form of independant quality control/standard should be put in place so the price of a game is based on its quality, length, replay value and general enjoyability, rather than just a set price for new releases. New games can be expensive and I understand consumers choosing used over new.

  • I liked the game

  • its a add on game dont think im gunna pay 40 bucks

  • I think Campon is taking this a little too far. They are being pretty selfish. If the company starts doing this to more games, they will probably end up hurting themselves in the long run because no one will want to buy it. You wouldn't be able to share or give it away, your stuck with it.

  • Hey Steph. love watching your videos but I think this is the first time I have to disagree with you. Now I'm not to hot on all of the ins and outs of the video game market but this is my view and my opinion. £50 for a brand new video game is completely outragous, especially when the game turns out to be extremely poor. Equally it's cheap and dirty for companies to back you into a cornor so you can only buy new games...

  • @Samcubegamer The 3DS resident evil game is a prime example. Now I know that there is no story, I get that but I imagine there are unlockables. If I brought that pre-owned and everything was unlocked I'd be pretty annoyed with that fact. I may be speaking for myself but the sense of achievement is brilliant when you work through a game and unlock everything. Also what if you're bored and just fancy restarting the game over again for the hell of it...

  • @Samcubegamer I don't see why companies like EA are going to such lengths to squeeze money out of the consumer. If I like a game and it's pre-owned why should I pay extra for it's online content, especially when people with 360's for example are already paying for the online service and some on the ps3 with the psn plus service. I did understand some points you put across but really sorry but think we'll have to agree to disagree lol

look forward to your next vid :)

  • Its like buying a car and being told where to drive it . And this whole bullshit about game companies not making money and the rising costs of game development is bullshit capitalism. Companies like Capcom that have been in business for so long make money, its just greedy CEOs want to make more money. They forecast thier profits and if they decide they want to make 500 million next year but instead make 450 million then they shit on thier employees or in this case you. So stop with excuses

  • Well how do you feel about families or couples who share video games? These kind of tactics of codes and save files you can't delete hurt people who share their games, like children for example. The fact is the video game industry is getting greedy. There have always been used markets, for everything. Cars, dvds, anything else you can think of. Those companies don't go nuts and remove their brake pads from used cars until you pay an extra $50, so why should games be any different?

  • Steph i just wanted to say that i really value your views and opinions on the issues that go on in the gaming industry

  • I think this is a bullshit thing they're doing now. Yes, I understand they lose money but $60 for a game? That's pretty tough to bare considering todays economy! They can't just lock off games from being re-sold..some of us just can't afford to spend $50-70 bucks for every game that comes out..that's just stupid. Also, for every great game that comes out you'll get a ton of crappy games too..what about those ppl who bought the crappy games..now they'll be stuck with an expensive game case!

  • I buy a ton of used games because most games today are a let down gameplay wise. Buying used games allows me to gain exposure to all sorts of developers. I hated Tomb Raider, but I bought Uncharted 1 used and enjoyed the game. I then bought Uncharted 2 new and pre-ordered 3. if I was forced to buy Uncharted 1 new, at the time, I probably would have never bought 2 or 3 due to not wanting to spend $70 on what looked like a Tomb Raider clone.

The loss of $70 made Naught Dog $140 in the end.

  • oh yea, Mercanaries 3D is a great game. A Mini-game blown into a full 40$ game.

  • Great video articulating different views. I personally don't think this is a big deal, with this particular game. If Mercenaries is purchased used, it doesn't mean you can't play it sequentially. You can. If anything, it gives you MORE option to play the game in any order you like. CDs let you do that. So do DVDs. Why not games, especially non-story drive games like this? I wish Capcom didn't do this, but honestly, the effect is pretty minimal.

  • There being selfish not us :)

  • Great video, you portray both sides very well.

  • Super MonkeyBall 3D..............does the same but didn't grab headlines

  • i think this game is stupid because is just a mini game n resident evil 4 and 5 why capcom put this game like an unlockable on resident evil revelations like the master quest on ocarina of time

  • i dont honestly give too much crap about it. like i understand it why these companies do this. as long as it means they get enough money to make better games then thats fine

  • For any game dev to try to stop me from reselling my property is bullcrap and it is unacceptable period because if we let this continue this will get worse and worse before we know it games might be locked to only one console. if they want to prevent reselling then give gamers a reason to keep the game but don't try to stop them from reselling it like this because its only going to piss people off.

    nice video, steph.

  • I don't sell my games, so it doesn't personally bother me. I don't like the fact though that not everyone's able to buy every game they want, when they want. Games go out of print, out of production (i.e. rare). If the game goes out of print and you can't buy it new, you're pretty much screwed. I don't like that at all.

  • It's all a vicious circle. If they stop used games, gamers lose out on hard find titles. If they do this, gamers lose out anyway. Sucky situation

  • And I think it's a good idea. But is it really getting that bad that they have to start making games like that ? I'm on the fence with this

  • The problem with destroying the used game market is not being able to play a game you really want to if you never had the chance to buy it new.

  • Hell yes they should implement stuff like this. It's the developers work thats being sold, is it not fair that they also get paid for it properly? I do buy older tittles used myself, just for the same reason you said for vesperia. Some games just can't be found brand new anymore, but everything else I buy brand new myself. Currently it's been reported that used games sales are a bigger problem than piracy, sheesh. Give the developers a freaking break, this ain't charity.

  • All my games are bought new and I like buying them new cuz I know when I open them they are good. My cousin bought a pre owned game for me and I played it a few times & it cracked. -.-

  • i could honestly care less about this issue because of the type of game it is i bought it new so im not complaing but i do see how someone who buys it used will complain if they buy it and all the characfters are already unlocked or guns badges etc. so idk since i bought it knew its alright for me

  • y do ppl think thats a problem the world ends with you did the same thing having only 1 save file on it

  • And just another side thought. This game will be pirated like crazy because people won't want to buy a game that won't let them start over. It seems like they could have thought of a different way to go about this. I mean if you buy the game new your still being punished for being a loyal customer.

  • the game industry makes plenty of money and for them to force people to buy new to access the games further is ridiculous in my opinion if their millions and billions are not enough once they ruin the used games part of the industry they will only further charge for features that we should get when the game is new dlc for games will become necessity i know im probably stretching the ideals here but its crazy in my personal opinion

  • I understand where Capcom is coming from, but this is not the way to go about it. Maybe I want to replay with all the stuff locked, or a friend wants to play it as well.

  • I understand both sides. The companies want to make money, and the consumer wants to save money. My opinion, if the companies are going to start doing stuff such as one save file then they need to come down off of the price of new games. That will allow more people to buy new games on a low income budget. But if they do the one save file deal those sites such as GameFly are gonna crash and burn!!

  • The answer to the used market might well be lower prices on new games - there's a thought!

  • @tokyojoe01 I love that answer. That would be great and definitely something that these companies should consider. It seems that recently most new releases have been going on sale a few weeks after release. That might be something that helps.

  • @tokyojoe01 Not possible in this day and age.

  • @tokyojoe01 i that is very true i mean most xbox games go for 60 dollars new along with other consoles its ridiculous and also i just got into kingdom hearts but it was hard to not buy a new one bc they dont make it anymore too

  • @tokyojoe01 I also agree with you...they should lower the prices on some new games because you are not getting your money's worth. These games that are like 4 hours long should not be 60 dollars. It's just ridiculous I'm not going to pay full price for a game that I'm not going to have a full experience with. Consumers want to feel like they are getting value for their money.

  • Boycott RE: Mercenaries. If this type of tactic is allowed to become the standard, its only a matter of time before people starting being charged to play a second play through of a game they finished. We're being dragged back to the days of quarters and arcade machines here, lets not make excuses for the industry.

  • @JimmyGB In a way EA is kinda already doing that. They are charging people that buy their used games to play their games online. I don't think I'm making excuses for the industry....I'm just giving my opinion. In this case I don't think it's that bad considering the type of game this is. If this was an RPG or something of substance I would be furious.

  • @StephsTooDef I agree with you that for this type of game it's not THAT bad but I think it's a slippery slope. I mean how long before ALL games start charging us to pay an extra $10 for an online code? I'm pretty sure a lot of companies wanted to do what Capcom did with this game but they never really took that risk..but i wouldn't be surprised if more and more companies start using this tactic if this game gets decent sale records. It's just unfair to people who can't afford to buy new games

  • I will not be suporting any game that utilizes this "strategy" to combat used game sales. If we buy it, they will make more, and criple the games. This is a self destruct game, make no mistake about it. Imagine if I sell hammers for a living, but I design it so that if you resell it, it doesn't work right anymore. And you say it has unlockables, so what, if I buy it used and it is all unlocked and leveled up, where the heck is the fun in that?!? I boycott anything made this way period.

  • And one more thing, who is the big winer in all of this? The filthy dirty game pirates will be erasing and replaying and erasing all they want, as usual.

  • The used games market is the reason EA has started making the consumer enter a code to play online. If you buy the game used and the code has been used by the previous owner... well, you can't play online.

  • money is made whatsoever most of the time, once it is pre owned they already had a sale and if this is the future it will end up or being a way to make gaming even more expensive or in time the games get as cheap as used but new....who knows.

  • that game is garbage

  • Steph, I have heard that the framerate is bad in the game and that it's not that fun, Resident Evil Mercenaries, is that true or is it still a enjoyable game?

  • I'll be getting the game probably sometime this weekend, seeing as it is released over here on Friday and I ordered it online. After playing it for a bit, I'll definitely do a video like this

  • I think its us cause I understand that they wanna make money and the only way is to do things like this

  • There are only 2 game series I always buy new: Donkey Kong Country and MediEvil. other than that I cant afford New games. I always buy used.

I think that it is stupid that they are trying to prevent used sales. They never had this problem in the past. If they are complaining about the production costs, then they shouldn't have wasted so much money on the games. There is no reason it should cost them as much as it does. And still I bet i could erase the save file, there is always a way.

  • @gothicgamer0990 No need to stoop to his ignorant level. Just ignore.....that's what I do.
