  • do you have the top head tighter than the bottom head? or visa versa? and also, how do you like the puresound custom pro brass compared to the steel version?

  • @joshuag94 bottom head always tighter on a snare drum, for me anyway. I got it from Bonham's tech Jeff Ocheltree. Once you've cranked up the bottom head you can more or less do whatever you like with the top head and it'll sound good. Brass are definitely more resonant, but the steel are my favourites. Just a tad crisper and they don't 'get in the way' as much.

  • You sound like Ross Kenyon former member of Confide. lol

  • That drum sounds amazing man! So much body!

  • this is beautiful :D u have great taste in snare sounds ive got a 13x5 tama stagestar that i got on ebay for $30 and i put the stock tama/remo coated head on the bottom and put a remo weatherking kevlar marching snare head on the top (my band teacher gave it to me. im glad he loves me so much haha) anyway my snare sounds AMAZING and it only cost me 30 bucks :P then ive got remo fiberskyns on my toms with sound control rings and all together my kit sounds near perfect.

    p.s. ur a great drummer :P

  • nice ... what is the difference between puresound custom pro snare wire and puresound blasters?

  • @mattmhyc blasters are designed for un-dynamic, high intensity playing. The custom pro's main feature is the quick release system and the new end plates.

  • you need to learn how to play the drums better

  • @cmmania1001 cool, i'll watch your videos (which you don't have) on your channel and get better from them shall i? (which i won't)

  • Beautiful man. You have a great taste in snare drums!

  • How good is the Puresound Custom Pro Brass 20 strand? Do you think it's better than the steel strand?

  • @xxxnityninexxx they're great, just like all puresound stuff! the brass version is slightly brighter than the steel one, and a little more resonant. its work better with metal snares with wet heads to best work with the sound.

  • what are the two rudiments you played really fast in the beginning of the demonstration part? They sound fantastic.

  • @ThyHonor double paradiddle and a paradiddle-diddle! Really easy to play fast and they sound great.

  • @dave90mckeague Thanks mate!

  • Is it the recording or does it have very little over tones? how did you get that sound on a steel drum

  • @WhatTheTech its probably the recording a little but only as youtube likes to compress videos alot. Its purpleheart and steel so the overtones are a little more subdued anyway as the wood controls the metal. Its mainly down to the edges and the batter head. the st dry soaks up most of the overtones but, before it even gets to this, Guru's special edges are slightly rounded, which stops any ridiculous ringing before it happens.

  • Hey man, nice video :)

Could you help me please ? It seems like you know many things on snares...

My snare is a Yamaha Oak custom, and I didnt change top and bottom head, so it kindof sounds like shit.

Type "loser 5 am" on youtube and click on one of the first videos. Listen carefully to the snare.

What head should I buy and how should I tune my snare to get this sound ?

    Thanks a lot :)

  • @CyysVideos the first thing to do would be to buy a 14x6.5 pearl sensitone brass snare as that's what Glendon Crain used on the record, although even with the right head combination (i think emperor x over amb hazy, could be wrong though) you're very unlikely to get the same sound. On the record the snare is pretty obviously gated and no doubt eq'd pretty heavily. Your oak custom snare should sound great with the right head choice.

  • @dave90mckeague Thanks :)

OMG how did you know Glendon Crain ? I'm impressed.

Too bad, I don't have enough money just to buy another snare. So I decided to try to find the Ginger Fish Sound (marilyn manson)

What heads ? How do I tune them?

copy paste this "marilyn manson great big white world last tour on earth" in the search bar (first video)

Since I have a yamaha oak custom snare and drum set, I think it would be ok to get this type of sound.

I'd love it if you could help me for this :) thanks

  • that is indeeed the perfect snare sound... with both the wires attached and unattached

  • That's amazing! Again, <3 your snare.\

  • What a beast :o

  • @SuperChuck3 me or the snare??? lol

  • @dave90mckeague Both, but primarily you!

  • can you help me tune my snare because right now it sounds like shit

  • @jackthedrummer96 yeah no problem. What type of snare is it and what heads are you using at the moment?

  • @dave90mckeague gretsch catilina club 14", i got an evans reverse power dot and a stock on the bottom. kida like a dryer sound so i might go buy a HD dry head. howd u tune?

  • @jackthedrummer96 nice drums those. I would steer clear of the HD dry unless all you do is studio recordings. Its a great head for that really dead sound, but its not very versatile and its also pretty quiet (being so dampened). The EC snare head would be a good head aswell as the ST dry. It would also be advisable to change out your stock reso head first, a good snare side head can make alot of difference. I have my reso tuned pretty high and the batter slightly looser than it.

  • @dave90mckeague hey man, thanks for the advice i will definatly look into buying an st dry and evans 300 hazy, one last question, do you find better snare wires than the stocks being omportant or not?

  • @jackthedrummer96 yes definetely. They wont make as much difference as the heads (unless you change from a 20 to a 40 strand or something like that) but its worth it. Puresound are probably the best company to go with, although pearl and other guys make good snare wires too. Try the new heads and if you like the sound then stick with the stock wires, if not, go for some pro ones!
