  • Oh my GOD this was a weird fucking programme. Loved it though.

  • LOL, this takes me back some. Always used to try and guess which way Worzell was going to fall at the end. Still makes me laugh now seeing him fall flat!

  • John Pertwee in a legend!!

  • Great story in Peter Kay's book about when Jon Pertwee made an appearance at a fete as Worzel and Peter grabbed a piece of hay off his costume and Pertwee told him to Fuck Off and he was only 9

  • he scared the living daylights out of me every time he changed his head or fell of the wood i used to run n hide behind the settee lol

  • I defy anyone not to break into a air drum solo at 0:44

  • Wasn't Jon Pertwee married to Jean Marsh (aka Rose from Upstairs Downstairs) for a time in the early sixties? I don't think it lasted.

  • Stop nicking those mince pies--you! you Sue!!!

Charlotte Coleman -Great lass----Rest In Peace. Great memories from my childhood. Every little thing makes a difference as a kid.RIP.

  • I keep watching it,again and again, even when i get home pissed from the pub Ive gotta see worzel...Oh man so many memories from this as a kid - though wasnt drinking then,as a 7 year old...Can we not go back to the late 70s/80s,when England was England??

  • I miss Jon Pertwee. He was amazing as Worzel Gummidge and also the Doctor.

    God rest his soul.

  • I'd like to punch Worzel Gummige in the face

  • Jeepers creepers thats scary!!!!!!!!!!

  • It was that one opening credit in the rain that did me in... As soon as that was over I got out from behind the couch and watched happily. I was a sensitive child though...

  • i think they should do anougher one but as a movie or a one-ff epsode

  • Why do people keep saying Worzel Gummidge was dark?.... Dark?...Scary?.. I was born in 1978 and spent my early childhood watching Worzel and loved it! I only ever thought it was funny, certainly not scary! I've also just sat with my two children who are 9 and 5 to show them Worzel Gummidge for the first time. They also loved it and didn't find Worzel scary.

  • @Mctagster i agree bud isnt it nice to pass it to another generation ? i think so

  • i think it's because some early bits of the first episode or slitly dark

  • Top programme. I remember it being much scarier at this start than this. Wasn't there an open sequence in which it rained? And as the children went past in the car, his head turned and watched them! Maybe my over active childhood imagination playing up.....

  • yh that was in the first episode it scared the hell out of me 2 even now i still get a little shiver when that scene comes on

  • But that wasn't in the opening titles though.

  • @carlymoseley no surely tales of the unexspected was ?

  • It's interesting as in the first series, the worzel gummidge character came across as a slightly darker but still very funny character. The first series was also alot more faithful to the novels. But as the series progressed, the worzel gummidge character became a completely hilarious and very funny comedy character, especially in the Down Under series. :) Classic British comdy series from the very late 1970's/very early1980's that was originally based on a series of novels.

  • The end credits always used to scare the sh*t outta me, the bit where he falls off his perch and screams. My sister used to drag me into the living room to make me watch it.

It's sad seeing Charlotte Coleman who played Sue as she died tragically young 33 due to an asthma attack. She was a good actress who seemed to love life. The worlds a cruel sometimes.

  • RIP Jon Pertwee

  • when i was a kid in infant school i had a lovely girlfriend called dawn wooley who's dog was ratter the jack russel in the crow mans basket

  • Jon Pertwee was like 60 something when he did Worzel wasn't he?

  • i think he must have been yeah or near it anyway, he was a great actor

  • Have they got keith moon doing the drums on the end credits of series 1 lol.

  • omg i have ALL the videos of this fromwhen i was small .. but now i dont have a video player :( waaaah

  • You can get them all on dvd now :)

  • The first title sequence is the best - with Pertwee just turning round and smiling gleefully, then from the second series it gets worse, then the third series they totally ruined it with clips from the show - and I think i want to forget the theme tune to the New Zealand version.

  • Lol my mum used to watch this, i find it quite funny

  • Didn't Southern Television ever clean their telecine machines.

These episodes are COVERED in dirt!

  • worzel gummage is a world legand never to be forgotten! anna lol xoxoxoxoxxoxoxo

  • God bless Charlotte Coleman, who played the girl Sue

she died in 2001, at the age of 33 of a severe asthma attack - you was a great actress and will never be forgotten.

  • just realized i've mistaken geoffrey for william hartnoll . yep i was wrong.

  • Jon Pertwee was the best, if they tried to make it without him, it would hit the wall.

  • in the christmas one was billy connerly another scarecrow ?

  • i love aunt sally she makes a lovely cup of tea and cake to die for LOL just one of the great TV of old

  • used to love this but was absolutely terrified of him as a wee lass. my mum bought me a Worzel doll and my sister got aunt sally....I can tell you now I wasn't impressed. I think he became the serial killer in all our Barbie games....poor Worzel....

  • my brother was shit scared of wurzle as well lol

  • i too was terrified of him haha. im 31 and nly just got over it:).

  • Down Under Theme's my favorite!!

  • excellent

  • Yes I've heard the rumour too, but who'd play WG - there's only one Jon Pertwee!

  • I used to be scared of him when i was a baby.

  • Love it!

  • there's a rumour going round that the tv bosses are going to bring back worzel gummage and rentaghost. They were my two fave programmes as a kid!

  • It's so good to see this again, brings back many happy childhood memories.

  • Every sunday we all used to have a bet on which way he would fall at the end of the programme!!! Fantastic.....

  • me and my brother used to do the same thing too :)

  • I used to watch this when I was like 5, one of the last credits shown here, used to scare the hell out of me when he jump to turn at the camera smiling... it was scary for a 5 year old and I still watched it! haha!

  • end credits funky as hell.....

  • Yeah - scarecrow disco! Love that big jazz drum roll too.

  • the title credits used to scare the shit out of me when i was a kid, i had nightmares about the creepy fucker sneaking into my bedroom.. thanks a lot mr pertwee, i am scarred for life lol

  • 3 programmes unmissable when i was young . this , grange hill and the a team .

  • blimy slice a cake please sally hehe

  • Worsle Gummage was the first book I ever bought and read, I loved this program I watched every Sunday without fail

  • Jon Pertwee as Worzel was sublime. A TV Great, This takes me back to warm, sunny Sunday tea-times...butties, crisps, fizzy pop n Worzel. Perfect!

  • As you always were guessing which way he would fall, I loved the way in one of the episodes the cross teetered slightly forwards before going backwards.

  • Holly crap, I forgot he started as a scarecrow at the beginning. OMG so many memories. You tube is awsome. Thanks for posting the vid. Love it

  • I absolutly adored watchin Worzel as a little girl. I went out and bought the dvd to show my children and guess what my youngest daughter of 4 yrs of age has fallen for him as well!!!

  • I absolutely loved Worzel Gummidge as a child...My sister and i would place bets to see whether he fell backwards or forwards once he was on his post!! Ah,the nostalgia!!

  • It was one of the few things i bonded with my dad over - we used to debate which we de'd fall too.

Brilliant show. BECAUSE it was scary! ;)

  • Thank you!!!

Everytime I thought of Worzel I got a tune in my head and every clip I watched had a different one which I still recognized but I was sure there was another one. Now I know it was from Worzel Down Under, lol

  • i was scared of this as a kid. as a fan of doctor who i was even more distressed when i found out it was the same guy lol

  • yeah that used to scare me too. im not alone lol

  • I also thought this show was scary when i was a kid... but i was still addicted to watching it :)

  • The original question was about whether or not Geoffrey Bayldon (the Crowman) was still alive. He just passed away this year.

  • Really ? I thought he'd had his 83rd birthday a couple of weeks ago.

  • I had read an article about his passing in 2007 after someone mentioned on here, but now I can't find it and there is nothing in his imdb profile to suggest he had passed away. Perhaps it was mistakenly reported to be him and later corrected...but I do remember seeing the story at one point.

  • no hes dead died of heart attack on plane great show best kid show ever

  • Some programs I look back on fondly and some I don't. This is one I don't. Gave me the creeps then and it's given me the creeps now. I think if I ever saw a scarecrow come alive - I'd have to shoot it, then burn it. Hear that Worzel!

  • That's good to hear, the unsung hero of the show in my opinion.

  • Is he? I thought he passed away.

  • According to IMDB he is still alive and acting. He was in an episode of a series called "New Tricks" just this year.

  • @ryolite38 he died 20/5/96... heart attack

  • Yep, I loooooved this Programme. Jon Pertwee was great. Geoffrey Bayldon who played the Crowman is still acting away I understand.

  • Oh My God!! I remember this programme on TV when I was a kid - In fact it was one of my favourite programmes on TV at the time! Thanks for sharing mate!

  • Its a shame what happened to poor Charlotte Coleman who played Sue.
